I wish that there were more DLPs on sale. I was planning to pick one up, but I am going to pass.

Eh, I wouldn't buy DLP TVs because of their low tech and high mechanical technology. It is basically just a three-colour filter that spins around and you shoot light into the filters.

and they magically create a pretty decent picture in HD at least on all of my DLP units... a 50" Sammy and a 720p projector.
I prefer my DLP TV downstairs over our 23" LCD unit in the kitchen...not sure why, just do. Sometimes I think I'm watching TV in 'slow motion' on the LCD.
Besides everything these days is pretty much disposable...most electronics are obsolete and worthless well before they actually break down, so the reliability issue is moot. As long as they all work for us during their 3 year warranty period, Bob's your uncle.

So does anyone have any opinions on this specific DLP?

Form your own. No risk involved, if you don't like it, you get 100% of your money back.

Futureshop will take back TV's after they're been used? Will they give back cash or store credit?

Whatever you paid originally. The 30 day return policy applies to everything (except some computer stuff that's 14 days and CDs/DVDs which can't be returned once open).

I bought one..... i heard they're really good... supposedly the same as a toshiba 44HM85 (rumored that the toshiba is a rebranded LG which says a lot if toshiba would put there name on a LG) also the rating was really good for it like 4.71 out of 5 (100 Ratings)...better than the samsung HLR4264's 3.6 (132 Ratings) which by the way had been on sale for 1499.99 as well.....I researched it quite a bit and found that most people recommended the Dlp's for gaming which is what my major concern was...then dvd's....but all in all if we don't like them we can always return it....

Unless they're a rebranded version of another company's technology (which is unlikely in this case), I'd avoid no-name brands for big purchases like these.

I believe it's a rebrand of AKAI. I don't know much about that brand either though.

Well I tried to get it, but it was sold out at FS. They let me put a deposit for their next shipment that comes in.

I was going to get the 52" LG DLP but when I went in to look it, the picture quality was much lower than other brands. The colours were not as crisp as the other model beside it. Not sure if it would be the same for the 44"...
I ended up passing.

actually to tell you the truth there is a big difference between the 2 (44" & 52).... i noticed the larger model 52" wasn't near as crisp also it wasn't as bright either....these to models exemplify the saying "Bigger
Isn't Always Better" and the rating on the futureshop website holds true to that as well 44" 4.62 (108 Votes) to the 52" 3.64 (122 Votes) also the lg's have a 2 year parts and labour warranty on them....but i will let you know for sure when my tv gets here ...i ordered the 44".....i have heard good things for the 44" lg and if i don't like i will just return and select a different brand name...

Well I was impressed enough with a friend's 42 ED Plasma that I was going to get the 52 DLP....the 44 was not on display at the futureshop I went into so it could very well be a superior model.
Good luck!

That's so true, especially in this case.

For the same number of pixels projected onto a larger screen , the 44" should look better (crisper) than the 52", the 52" at FS did not look good compared to the LCD RPTV (Hitachi, Toshiba), I tried but could not tweak the colours to make it look close to the others, perhaps this set has seen better days. At least FS has a decent return policy, but I'm hoping the reviewers are correct on their scoring with LG surpasing Samsung. These sets both use the HD3 chip.

I just got the tv yesterday. All I gotta say is that it is an amazing tv! Amazing picture and clarity. I have yet to use an HDTV reciever, but I have a Rogers digital terminal. I thought it was gonna be hard to adjust the picture settings, but it comes with an "EZ video mode" which makes things so simple.
What a difference from the 55 inch I saw displayed at FS. The tv is so quiet, I can't even hear the motor or fan.
The tv even came with a cable to attach to my computer, so that I can use it as a computer screen, however it doesn't seem to work. Would anyone know why?
Cheers

I received my tv last thursday and wanted to wait a few days to tinker with b4 posting here and was a little worried when i first turned it on because all i had was standard cable but it didn't look to "bad"...but then i hooked up my Xbox 360 and was absolutely blown away by the clarity and definition from the hdtv cables...i had a 27" JVC crt ...and going to this tv was the best thing i ever did...especially for the price....i am extremely happy with this purchase and to those who were a little worried and did not pick one of these up i fear that you may have missed out on a extremely Good Deal...anyway i must return to my tv and need for spped most wanted on my 360 ...hehehe
