they've got alot of big ticket items on sale (lcd's and monitors and such) but so much of it is generic brand goods

i don't think anything has really jumped out at me, i'm starting to regret not going to seattle for black friday now

Yep, I'm underwhelmed as well. I wanted an LCD Monitor, but everything on sale at BB/FS is a Generic Brand except for the Samsung 19 inch.

I have a feeling that there will be some online-only deals that will help make up for it.

Well, there is one, but it's 256MB and pretty basic.

No really good deals.

Just a lot of cheerleaders hopping up and down singing praises for BB & Futurescum in other threads. Creating lots of excitement & peer pressure.

Yeah nothing really hot. Last year was much better with Audigy 2ZS, WD 250GB, and BenQ 100-DVDs. This year doesn't have much, though the Canon SD500 is tempting.

I was hoping for PDA deals but there aren't any! The only one is the Palm Tungsten E2 @ BB, but the sale price is more expensive than Canada Computers.

The wireless router combos are nice though.

I went through the entire BB and FS Boxing Day flyers and didn't see anything I was interested in buying. I think these guys are just getting lazy, and expect buyers to lay down their money out of habit.

Personally, I will just bank my cash, and wait for some eventual post-holiday sales.

Ditto! I expect some decent sale threads here on RFD. :D

I'm glad the sales are bad - it saves me time. I'm curious to see what NCIX and Canada Comp has in store on Boxing Day.

The FS flyer is cracking me up on their "regular prices"... BFG 6600 FT is reg 319?? no kidding you can put a big number sale on it if you list that as the regular price.

Mostly, stuff like that will actually cause me to tune their advertising out over the long run rather than make me want to step in their store.

The pc games are OK, but not really what I was hoping for either. I'll pick up guild wars, and probably WoW too. I just bought AOE III for $60 3 weeks ago or I would have got that as well.

I was glad I didn't see a clearence lappy, cause I just bought one 2 weeks ago and was worried about the FS and BB sales. Experience should have told me not to worry. Nothing like the sub $500 lappy deals on Black friday.

Walmart and Staples are the same - not worth going to either

I don't know if the deals are disappointing, but there sure isn't anything I'd buy...

Does any store have a 10% off anything or something? That would rule... every customer could get what he really wanted at a lower price.

I'm with ya there.... well....not in bed with you:eek:...er... oh... you know what I mean.....the not getting up part

you can get the DI-524 from FS now for $29 which isn't too bad.... bit flaky on the WPA until I realized that I could falsh the firmware with the 624 software....imagine that....2 models from d-link with the same hardware....go figure....alternatively just get a 624 for $49

the big screen tvs are at a pretty good price...

55" grand wega for $3000 at BB
60" grand wega for $3300 at FS

i'm gonna go the bay and try and PM it and use a truckload of gift cards...even though most places dont PM on boxing day, I'm pretty sure I can get them to PM those prices...speaking of which, does bay do 110%, or do they just match? or is it one of those YMMV things? (i heard from somewhere they do 115%)

BFG 6600 FT is reg 319?? no kidding you can put a big number sale on it if you list that as the regular price.I think that's ridiculous too, but FS isn't the only retailer guilty of doing this. The CT Boxing Day flyer has in small print on the bottom of the last page:Regular prices shown are the prices at which the products have been sold by Canadian Tire as of November 17, 2005." So maybe FS is just using an even earlier reference date.

I am totally disappointed by BB and FS. I was hoping for some deals on laptops similar to what BB (or Circuit City, or Walmart) had for Black Friday in US. This was no where close to that.

If you've been on RFD for a while, you'd learn to have low expectations for boxing day sales. For most items, you can usually find better deals at various times through the year.

Very underwhelmed except for some media deals...

Things like NSW 2006 for $50 aren't bad either, assuming you want NSW... (sadly, it won't be PMable... last year I PMed one at Stoooples for $25, but that's because it was in the post-boxing day boxing week FS flyer...)

Civ4, AoE3, and whatever that other game I can't read for $30 are decent too...

But aside from that, it is a massively underwhelming sale, that's for sure. I sure as hell am not going to be standing for an hour on their parking lot for these, believe me, and I'd been looking forward to this sale since last year's and the year before's, which were reasonably good.

My theory: they figured out that the doorcrashers, instead of attracting people who'll buy more expensive stuff, end up attracting RFD types who just stock up on the doorcrashers... like me! So they might as well give discounts on big things (TVs, anyone?) instead of the usual $10-25-after-MIR items.

Is boxing day crappier than before or it's because we get used to Redflagdeals ?

I mean most of the deal was available or even better in other stores or anytime in a year.

I was looking for a great price on Camera. Futureshop have a "great" 150$ off on the Nikon D50, which make it 849$.. same price that you can get at any store.. I can even find it for 799$... and they call that hot ?

Boxing day is:
- Old stuff that is or should be replaced by new model
- Cheap strange brand that no one know / no one want
- Deal that was available before in the year
- "Deal" on overpriced product that can be found cheaper elsewhere.

For the first time, I have some money to spend but I will probably end up keeping it

Yeah!!!!I plan a D50 for long time. Now it is $849 in boxing day! It totaly let me down. What was that?!!you can even find a cheaper price now!

I know this is terrible. They even say "Minimum 5 by store" to be sure everyone think it's so hot that they can't have more...

Other camera "deal" at Futureshop.

Canon PowerShot Pro1.. It's a last year model. 649$ with a "250$ rebate". Funny. You can easily find it for the same price at ANY camera store.

Sony DSC-H1... 499$ after "150$ Rebate". It's actually 529$ in any store. So it's a 30$ deal. Since I'm from Quebec, I better get it from an Ontario store and save on taxes, which will make it cheaper than Futureshop.

Only deal that aren't too bad are Memory card, but if it's MIR, it's very cold (Dell was selling 1Gb SD Kingston memory for 61$ few weeks ago... no MIR)

I hope Online deal will be better.

All i know is if they don't have any "web only" specials that re not advertised they won't see any of my money this year.

I am sure with the lack of deals they will notice a drop in sales this boxing day.

As far as i am concerned their is not allot of boxing day deals that have blown me away or made me say "wow".I think i problay will be saving my money for the january clearance sales when they make up for their half arsed boxing day sales.......lol.......

it's just getting worse and worse every year

i predict in a year or two people will wisen up, crowds will diminish. we may even lose boxing day?

it's becoming a scam like MDG

also, isn't it illegal what they're doing? artificially raising the sale percentage off by raising the original retail price only for that day?

you can get sued for that

Underwhelmed was exactly the thought I had when reading the deals.

For starters, ever since Best Buy moved to Canada, it seems FS/BB have made almost all of their deals door crashers (or at least very limted quantity "XX per store" sales). Plus, more and more, they are putting inferior models/old stock up for sale on Boxing day.

3-5 years ago and before, Boxing Day used to be THE day to get that top of the line product or new product you wanted cheaper than any day of the year. Competition was fierce.

Now it's mostly a game, like "trick the consumer" into buying a crappy product for less money than usual; cheap printers and overpriced keyboard/mouse combos and EDTV (not HDTV) Plasmas on sale. I noticed only ONE name brand DLP TV on sale (the LG for $800 off at extremely limited quantities); not a single Samsung/Toshiba DLP sale to be even mentioned.

The best deal from the flyers (aside from ones with rebates, etc) was the 7.1 megapixel Canon SD500 for $399 which is a pretty decent deal; other than that it's slim pickings.

I know what's going on. BB and FS are deliberately showing their not so great deal flyers to us as a decoy to the real deals flyer. Originally RFD did not allow people to post up the boxing day flyers because BB and FS threatened to take legal action. But now it's ok to show them and the mods don't care because BB and FS is now allowing them to put these up.

Don't u guys see it?

that's actually the only item with an actual decent % off, without an inflated original retail price, a very solid 33% in most cases

everything else is a lie pretty much

"wow 200% off!" and they got a retail price that is 199% more than usual.

That is so true. I'd rather pay more just not to deal with the crowds too.
