They just had markdowns for Boxing Day today, they usually begin their Boxing Day sale about a week before Dec 26. Not really a good sale IMO

Ha,
funny!

Shouldn't it be a "holiday sale" then?

I find they are expensive overall, nice stuff for work though.

Are boxing day sales really better than other year round sales?

what kind of markdowns do they have? does anyone have more details they can post?

No additional details... However, what I can say is, as an ex-GAP employee, GAP Inc. stores (GAP, Old Navy, BR, etc.) typically have regular markdowns for Boxing Week. For example, regular-priced products may have the 1st markdown price points... sale-priced products may have their 2nd, 3rd, etc. markdowns. You get the idea. There's usually no "special" markdowns for Boxing Week at GAP Inc. stores.

hey welcome to RFD.

so you're saying there will be a number of markdowns as the week goes on?
are all the stuff discounted? i'm looking to buy a jacket but its really expensive and i'm just hoping there will be some sort of discount.

wow, I love banana republic! I just don't always shop their because of the price. $100 for any of the shirts I like there is too much. I have to catch a sale to buy there.

thanks for the welcome. Well, there definitely will be markdowns on Boxing Day. Subsequent markdowns usually happen each passing week, depending on how fast the products fly out the door. But as I have said, the markdowns are "regular" markdowns.

there are some decent deals. the men's jacket has been marked down twice now i believe. the men's short wool zip up jackets are only 84.99 and then men's 3/4 wool coat is 159.99/199.99. pretty much all the sweaters are on sale for both men and women.

I think you meant CASHMERE, an extremely soft, luxurious fabric made from the hair of the cashmere goat - native to KASHMIR a territory located to the north of India & Pakistan. :)

I used to work at Banana Republic. They have some very very nice clothes, but I would never have bought anything if I didn't have that 50% off.

how did you find out about Friends and Family Day on Dec 3-5? i only found out by luck at the Yorkville store from an employee. but when i went to the Eaton Centre store, the whole thing was secret and very hush-hush (i heard a manager-type guy telling a cashier not to tell people about it).

i know i'm a newbie, but can anybody hook me/us up with these types of secret/by invitation-only promotions at BR?

there are some nice clothes at BR... i'll be sure to post any good deals i come across in january.

thanks :o)

The reason for the hush-hush nature of the whole thing was so that customers who didn't have a Friends and Family discount card didn't feel cheated. For some reason Banana Republic didn't want to open up the sale to everyone. They were strict like that.

EDIT - If you want to be included in this promotion next time, just talk to one of the employees (not managers), and more often than not they'll have some extra cards that they'll give you. The only reason they wouldn't is if they ran out or are just generally a dick.
