View Full Version : Black & Decker - Brew 'n Go Coffee Maker - $9.95!!!

Don't know if there's any left. But Walmart has the Black & Decker Brew 'n Go Deluxe coffee maker with Travel Mug for half their regular price! ($9.95 reg. $18). I've seen this coffee maker in the US for $20 US. This is a really hot deal. This coffee maker has received a lot of good reviews and almost every part of it is dishwasher safe including the stainless steel travel mug (a rarity). Makes a great gift. I kept calling every Walmart to find these, finally got 2 in Burlington. Apparently more are on the way. It's so cheap, yet looks like you spent a bit of $$$ (if you're thinking x-mas gift)

bought it last week from walmart at that price. Makes coffee quickly. Has a permanent filter, so no need to buy extras. Cup included has cheap handle, which will probably break in short while. Nice deal though!

4 years of constant use. Can't resist picking up a back-up

Is this compatible with a different mug? Or am I going to have to buy a new set once the mug goes?

Any mug that fits under the overhanging part would work. There's nothing special about this mug.

You can use any mug that fits in the space. The black model is a bit taller than the white one.
I use Mellita #1 paper filters in mine. It makes better coffee and it's easier to dump the grounds. You can get them at Can Tire for $1.99/40 filters.
They are great one cup coffee makers......fast and hot.

 It should be noted too that the Walmart model is the "Deluxe" model which I think includes a few extras like Auto-Shut Off, etc.
Also, the mug is apparently compatible with any other Black & Decker coffee machine model (don't know if that extends beyond single cup machines).
Can someone confirm if it's still available at Walmart at this price? (Not sure how Walmart pricing policy works since they don't officially have "sales").

This coffee maker is solid.
I've owned one for a year and have no complaints about it, or the mug. The mug is still fine after a year of use.
Like others have said, if the mug does break or go missing, any mug that will fit under the overhang will work with it.
Well worth the $10.

One question I have re paper filters vs. permanent filters.
I casually assumed that the permanent filter would be better for the environment as you are throwing out less. However, after thinking about it, paper is easily biodegradable and you save water, and water heating by not having to wash the permanent filter (although you still wash the cup).
Just my own curiousity thrown in for thought.

Good point. The only thing is the chemical composition of the "paper" filters. I hear that for those who compost, you should never through your used coffee grounds into your compost bin with the paper (because of the chemicals in the paper). If they're not good enough for soil composition, one wonders what actually leaches into our coffees! I think permanent filters are gold-leafed which is a pure element and are "safer" to use. I could be wrong, but that's my $0.02

I can vouch for the (original?) white version that didn't include a mug that I picked up at CT ~2001... great lil coffee maker and a stainless steel mug is a nice bonus.

I had one of these for a few years before I got my pod brewer. It should be noted that the mug is, indeed, an unusual size - it is a hair shorter than most travel mugs, but a bit wider.
I lost the original travel mug that came with it, and was *never again* able to find a travel mug that fit under it.
Of course your standard cermaic mug works fine. But if you are the kind who takes their coffee and goes, be careful with the one that comes with it, or you will need to manually transfer it to another mug from a ceramic one every morning if it breaks.

Assuming it can be wash in the dishwasher (and if you do use dish washer), no extra water is wasted.

The paper filter and coffee ground should be dumped into green bin. I have done for over 5 years.

I heard paper filters themselves should be thrown out in the garbage, not in a green bin (see earlier post in this thread). I can't recall where I read that, but the thrust of it was that it's the coffee grounds that are healthy for the environment. The paper can leach chemicals into compost... soil.. and eventually water table polluting the ground.

Green bin now takes tissue paper and other soiled paper product such as diaper. They don't just compost the stuff in green bin without seperation. At least, the coffee filter is mentioned to be dumped in green bin in the instruction of our office green bin.

Interesting. I guess I stand corrected. I guess they found a way to recycle 'em without polluting. Good stuff.

I had one of the old models that was years old and kicked around for quite a while. For a single person it's a good utilitarian device, doesn't look too spiffy in your stainless kitchen, though.

I saw a bunch in the South Trail Walmart, Calgary. Picked one up after I returned a B&D pod machine that was just terrible. Got this solid drip machine and an extra $60 out of the deal. This was right after Christmas, but judging by the amount they had it'd be a good place to keep an eye on.

I saw one of these things in Walmart and the build quality was bad. Trust me, for $9 you're getting your money's worth. One thing that caught my eye was the flimsy holder on the cup. That holder was more flaccid than a jimmy after watching a fat chick flick.

I find that the travel mug holds enough for 2 regular mugs of coffee (plus milk/cream). Nice coffee maker for the price.

The handle does flex a bit, but it's more than enough to support a cup of coffee. It won't break unless you really bend it, or have an unfortunate accident. I suppose you think ceramic mugs suck too, since it's probably easier to break one of those.

I use to have one of these at work. Probably used a dozen times a day for at least a year (was still going strong after i left). Great machine. Also people love the one cup makers because it let's them use whatever grind and whatever strength they want. And the inefficiency of the one cup maker leads to more coffee room talk. :D
