Hi guys - are there any classes out there at the community colleges within the GTA for home building and upgrading etc? You know like a baking class?? Something hands on would be great. If you could recommend one I'd appreciate it - anything at all - plumbing, electrical work etc.
I'm going to start soon (hopefully) at Toronto Habitat for Humanity where you can learn to build a house but I was hoping for some other classes as well.
Thanks.

The Home Depot courses are not hands-on, per se. An employee gives a good demonstration of the task, and is open all sorts of questions.
They may let you try an element of the task, like cutting a ceramic tile using a tile cutter, but not let you try installing a small section of tile.
I attended a number of these sessions a year or so ago, and took laborious notes. I was the only one doing that! I would suggest it because the staff member gives all sorts of little tidbits of information that would be easily forgotten.

Uh, if I may....
There's something called Home Depot University.
Its about 12 weeks, one night per week.
My buddy and I went, they showed how to build a bathroom from the ground up.
Framing, wiring, plumbing, drywall, etc. It was very inforamtive. They showed the correct usage of all the correct tools to use.
They showed us the cheap way to do things, and they showed us the easy way (more $$).
Ask them at the special services desk when their next course is.
Best of all, its Free.

If you really want hands on experience, you may want to check out Habitat for Humanity. You'll learn and be doing a charitable deed at the same time! :cheesygri
