I want to block certain numbers from calling my cell phone. Is there such services for cell phones?

I keep getting calls from people I don't know asking for a certain someone who I don't know. Possibly because his number resembles mine? or maybe those people have the wrong number in their phonebook? It's been about a year and its the same people who call, so I have a list of their numbers. And I had this number for 2 to 3 years now, so... yeah, this situation is just pissing me off.

I want to tell them this is the wrong number so change your book or something, but I don't want to talk to strangers, especially when they have my number.

Is there any way to block their numbers?

and I'm on Fido Prepaid, if this helps.

Thanks

EDIT:

Fido replied and here's what they said:

"It is not possible to block certain numbers from calling your phone. The option we have is to change your number. To do so please call Customer Service."

I guess blocking specific numbers from calling isn't possible. Is it possible to block numbers on a landline? (just curious)

On a similar note, can any phones block SMS from numbers? Or perhaps there's a Smartphone software for it?

hmm, so I guess no one really knows if there is a number blocking service for cell phones? Well I emailed Fido regarding this issue, hopefully they'll reply first thing on Monday.

And here's an idea for the mobile telecommuncation sector...INTRODUCE NUMBER BLOCKING!!!!! ~ I'll pay $0.50 to block a number.

But yeah, maybe there is such service, I'll update when Fido replies...

If your phone has this feature add those people to your phone book and set them to VIP and give them a "special" ring. That ring will be "silent". After trying it a few more times and nobody ever picking up they'll give up.

true, that's what i'm gonna start doing, but i dislike giving them a special place in my address book....but yeah thats what im gonna do now.

I think the guy they're always looking for is a drug dealer....for odd reasons like, they're always sooo rude and demanding when they ask for him... bastard.

Some phones also have an option called call screening. Not really sure how it works, but it got set on one of my parent's phones at one time by accident and did exactly what you wanted.

good short-term solution, but what happens if they called from a number that they pass on to somebody else, and now that person cannot contact you? :|

I'm going to pass on 3 cell numbers this year, so this happens a lot with cellphones..
