You can enter 5 words every hour. A prize of 280,000 points could take a good six months to get but free is free, can't complain there.

It took me about 2 weeks to get 40,000 points!
I happen to start when there were a ton of words one week and they update the high point words on tuesdays on their websites.

You just have to remember to enter your 5 words per hour.

I hope they will update their prizes soon. I don't have many points right now- maybe 7,000 but would like to try and get something nice!

I thought the same thing at first but I joined this site exactly two weeks ago today and have 31185 points. Another 2 weeks like that and I get a free CD, DVD or book (those are the only categories I've really looked at so far). And that's just from the words all the great people of RFD post here! Takes like 2 minutes to put in your 5 words (and you can do that every hour if you have nothing better to do...lol). And the site actually has some interesting stuff to read...now if only I could find words to share back with RFDers, but damn, seems everytime I find a word, someone's already posted it....I'm trying to contribute, honest! LOL

I was saving up too, although I didn't think I had a chance, since I'd only been on since the end of March. I'm at 80,000 now, how close were you to the iPod? I wish that instead of being able to search for max amount of points a prize was worth, you could search for a min. That way you wouldn't haven't to spend a lot of time looking up the expensive stuff that have been hiding. Now the most expensive thing is that hammock, which most of us can't even get because it's only available in the States.

Today I was going to finally redeem for my first item, since a few things came that I wanted, and all the expensive stuff aren't things I want to save up for, now that the iPod is gone.
But now I have something to save up for. I wonder how many there are to redeem. I'm only at 110,000 so I probably don't have a chance.

I saw that when you enter some of the contests they award 1,000 for entering- but u have to read the rules to know that.
The fathers day contest was enter and get 1,000 points and every vote got you 50 points.

I wish I would have entered as I am 600 pts away from a DVD I would like.

Well, it could be that they get a lot of promotional copies from the publisher so they have to cross out the upc codes and make it "not for resale".

I get a lot of books from one publisher and they put "not for resale" stickers on the books or they are printed with "preview copy" may be subject to to changes ect on the book:lol:

Ok I took a look at our database and the word COOLER was never added. As well as many from the contests page. I have added them all now so o ahead and add them again! Sorry for the inconvenience!

So COOLER is now good for 300 points. It was supposed to expire June 7, so I don't know how long it will be good for now, the email didn't say. If anyone has any words from around that time that came up as invalid maybe you could post them again. They actually sent me two of them by mistake, I emailed them and let them know and asked if they wanted me to send one of them back.....that was weeks ago now and they never did reply.

Anyway...that's my suggestion.

Some prizes are cool but you have to be quick because they run out fast!
You have to check the prizes daily and early, they could be gone in minutes.
I am saving my 300,000+ points for some nice DVD set if they ever offer again.

Got a book for 36,000 points. It's worth about $20 and can in about 2 weeks!

I have about 115,000. I cashed in for a book once, very happy to get it from P&P, it was a book where the author had been interviewed on The Daily Show and I was very interested in reading it. A few weeks ago I cashed in for a DVD, again very happy to get it from P&P, it's a DVD of a comedian I like and I have all his other DVD's so it was great to get the most recent one for free.

My mom was saving all her points for a particular DVD set that was out of stock and never went back into stock, eventually she gave up and cashed in her points for a different DVD set.

We're both finding the prizes to be mostly uninteresting to us, but we are both managing to find something here and there.

I have about 450,000 points...I have been lucky to get two great prizes...a Barenaked Ladies DVD/CD combo and the DVD series of My So Called Life. I agree with everyone that lately the prizes stink.

I haven't been on for long, so I don't really have enough points for anything big. (110,000 right now) About a month ago I decided it would take too long for the Wii Fit. But my sister wants to be a elementary school teacher, so we redeemed for a picture book.
I think it takes too long to get things, but I enjoy seeing the new things that have come out. I can really see how it would be worthwhile for them to promote their products on pointsandprizes. Some of the things I would never have heard of, and most are too expensive for me to want to buy. At the moment I'm saving up on another site, (BT gives VisaGC), to get one of the prizes that would take me at least a year to get on this site. (SkirtSports skirt) So I guess that one instant proves how worthwhile it is to the companies.
Some of those companies are so small and some of their products so strange I can't believe they can make a living.
My favourite expensive prize, that I would never buy in real life, (mainly because I'm too cheap for buying stuff at the full price), is by fliggity. They had a long sleeve t-shirt that had built in wings so that little kids can fly around all day. It doesn't seem practical enough to make me want to pay almost $40 for it, but I know a little girl that totally would make use of it. We just got back from a week of volunteering at day camp, and she is 5, the youngest age there. Her and her friends were running around everywhere and it was such a delight to see so much energy.

I found a way to make things go faster with that contest.

I managed to enter a recipe yesterday,and it was accepted today and they sent me a direct link. ( http://chefmom.com/contests/contests.php?req=displayentry&id=473)

Once signed in, you can paste the direct links to the recipes in the address bar and then you can get in your votes for the day by voting for your own recipe :) .

If other people have submitted recipes, post your link and then we can go leave comments for 50pts each. It's easier to use the links than try to move from page to page of entries.

Comments are 50 pts, unlimited times, votes are 50pts but only 10 per day. And submitting a recipe is 1,000 pts , (5 entry limit )so it's worth doing.

Points from contests take a loooooooong time - usually months. Supposed to get them the month following the end of the contest, but there's always a problem. They do come eventually though. 2 -3 months has been my experience.

I got one (1) book when I cashed out at 37,000 points and it did show up :)
I also ordered a DVD that was maybe 70,000 points I forget- but it did show up as well.

I just redeemed some points a week or 2 ago for a yoga DVD for a chrismas gift!

Okay, I don't know if this is the right place to post this but....what is everyone going to "buy" with their points....I don't have a baby. It seems like there are an awful lot of prizes for babies. Well then, I'm holding out for wii fit -- I've never redeemed & am at 731,000+ but don't need books, music, etc and definitely don't want to go through pages & pages of "prizes" to find something suitable. Well, I like some of the "crappy" books- I'm sure not everyone likes to read the same thing. I think there are too many women and baby books though.
But I did recently get a book that would be considered really boring, it was about the kidneys- but someone in my family was looking to read something on that subject and they liked the book.

I also got 2 DVD's that I'm giving my mom as a gift, one is the Yoga Tennis, and also Yoga Ski workouts.
They are worth about $20 ea or so...I just figure it will save me from spending more to get her a gift this year.

It's REALLY time intensive, especially when you're inputting 5 point words!!
I'm on the computer most of the day & set a "reminder" every hour to input the words so its not too bad but with all the low-point words lately, racking up points is extremelly slow!! I haven't even gone in to look at any prizes - just keep plugging away - way too many pages to scroll through! Will eventually get around to seeing what's availalbe for redemption.

I just checked the original email I received, and they certainly don't say anything about a time limit. I also received another newsletter on the 10th still promoting the samples and by default, but not explicitly, the bonus point opportunity. Fortunately, I was online when the first newsletter came in and I got onto it right away but given how they randomly send out their newsletters, I can imagine a lot of people might have missed out with this one day only thing.
