Here are some deals and/or ways to get a deal for your new born baby.
I invite anybody who has some good deals to post then as follow-ups to this thread.
1. Crib, best value I got was from an ebay seller enzo70helio who sells new and "refurbished"
cribs at great prices. I said "refurbished" because some of them are former display cribs with very small
scratches or mismatched colors.
LINK (http://search.ebay.ca/_W0QQsassZenzo70helio)
3. Stroller , you can go for the american brands like Graco and such but personally I didn't like them
and they're HUGE so I decided to spend a little more and get a European Peg Perego A3 wich is one of
the most versatile strollers ever made for $388+tax. Turns from a Pram to a stroller and is exceptionally well built with quality
materials. You can do slightly better on Ebay but only buying from US that means losing warranty and paying tax and duty cause is a
BIG box with a price tag of at least $250 USD
Best price for that one was www.minicircuit.ca $388+tax
LINK (http://minicircuit.ca/mi00049.htm)
2. ToysRus baby catalog coupons. Register in the birth registry with them and receive a $5 coupon ,
a small gift for soon to be mother and child and a catalog full of coupons usable only in their store but
found them a pretty good value especially that ,the coupon specifys, it applys BEFORE the tax :)
4. High chair , this might expire soon so hurry, ToysRus use the $10 of coupon found in the catalog
to ourchase the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders High chair wich is on sale right now
for $119.99 (reg price $149.99) -$10 final price $127 tax in
LINK (http://www.toysrus.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&productId=47424)
5 Bouncer same like above will knock down $5 from initial price
6 Crib mobile , same as above $5 off BEFORE tax.
7.Thermometer , Braun @ CWO.ca for 29.99 bundled with a DrSeuss DVD already posted on RFD.

For cribs, you can get used ones at Once Upon a Child in Toronto or find a listing on craigslist or buysell which are a bit better than these ones offered. For example, I got a used Morigeau (normally sell for $800+) for about $250 off of craigslist.
For a stroller, agree that the A3 is great, although a bit bigger than the P3 Pliko or Prammette also made by Peg Perego. The A3 is better functionally, but may be harder to fit into a trunk of say a Jetta. The P3 Pliko goes for about $350 new, and Prammette for $450 new. These are also readily available used on Craiglist - I've seen them going for about $100-$250.(Ourselves, we got the Cadillac - the Bugaboo Frog. Yes, we paid $1200, but we love it!)
FYI - The Ocean Wonders High Chair was on sale at Toys R Us a couple of months ago for $40 off.

For car seats - be aware that you may not be able to import a US made car seat unless it has a Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) sticker on them - and those are typically only sold in Canada.

Glad to see you are stocking up. Just make sure you don't buy TOO many before your baby is born because:
a) Babies grow quickly and you don't may not want too many of the Size 0's and 1's.
b) You will probably want to experiment with brands. For example, Pampers works with a lot of babies and Huggies for others. We found we had to experiement between the two because of leakage. It would be crappy if you bought too many of one brand only to find out they don't work on your kid.
Congratulations!

Thanks for the warnings
yup i only bought 1 of each of the sizes to experiment... heard mixed reviews on huggies... heard pampers are generally better... it's gonna be our first ...so not sure what to expect... been reading about diaperless babies as well... so..may be we'll try that technic and wont end up using diapers :P

Definitely. You will want to stock up a bit, but I would advise after you have tried the different brands. We initially went with Huggies but found they leaked too much, and hve been using Pampers ever since. Could be the main reason why Huggies are usually cheaper.

Buy pampers, been using it for my little boy. Coupons are harder to come by. Heard huggies are better for girls. You only need size N (swaddlers) for the first couple of weeks, then get the normal size 1. Only difference I see is the elastic velcro/sticky, and you pay more for those. Buy as you need, or as someone said, you might be stuck with left overs. Use larger size to get through the night.
Don't forget to check out the free section for stuff. Nestle/Enfamil sends out sample tins, might be enought to tie you over at the beginning if you plan to bf your kid. Use inlaw's address to get a couple more :cheesygri
I remember some site in Ontario selling Burts bee product, I think they are the distributer. Cheaper than store I think. Personally I think they work and smell great.
Coupons save.ca for baby stuff.

We have the Graco travel system stroller, it’s always on sale somewhere for $289 (Reg $399). I agree that it is HUGE, good for walking around our new constructed neighbourhood (big wheels), but not so great for downtown shopping or malls. We call it the SUV stroller. It also feels ‘loose’ after only six months of use, I keep worrying a wheel will fall off or something, although we do bash it around a lot and use it very heavily.
Careful buying second hand car seats and cribs…with car seats, unless you 100% sure it has not been an accident, don’t bother, not worth the risk. With cribs, older ones may be outdated safetyw-ise.
We got our crib at Once Upon a Child, brand new Storkcraft for $199, and are very happy with it.
We have an Evenflo exersaucer from Walmart ($47), it’s our sons favourite thing, he bounces, spins, rocks, and basically bashes around as much as he wants happily.
Our expensive Jolly Jumper crib mobile broke after 3 months…won’t be buying anything from them again.
Diapers – best thing we’ve found is www.smallplanetinc.com A diaper service in the GTA that recycles disposable diapers, picks them up, and drops off new diapers. We have been buying their no-name brand diapers in bulk for $22 for 86 step 3’s, and are very happy with them, no leak problems, seem comfortable, etc. Not only is the recycling service very reasonable ($11 every two weeks), but we also don’t have to feel guilty about our baby’s 5000 diapers going into a landfill. Highly recommend this service!

Funny the comments on the Pampers diapers - we have a three week old baby girl, and we can't wait to finish off the Pampers diapers we have and go back to Huggies. We had a dozen or so Huggies from free samples available in local area Montreal stores and they seemed to fit better and not leak like the Pampers.
Guess each baby's butt is different.
On subject of diapers, a friend swears by Kirkland brand diapers from Costco as being cheapest and best bang for the buck.
Huggies wipes are a great deal for a case of 480 (I think) at Costco.
As far as stollers - we bought a Peg Perego Pliko P3 - mostly for it's folded size, and light weight. Trying to find a deal on a quality baby stroller is like trying to get a bank to give you free money.
We did manage to save $45 bucks on the P3 by asking if they had any old stock - the store had some brand new 2004 models that they sold for cheaper. One store offered us a demo model for $80 off (it was the discontinued Grafitti color).
My RFD training made me a little embarassed to only save $45 on a $500 purchase, but we took whatever savings we could get.
In case those who are looking are in the Montreal area, the stores offering mild 'deals' are Bambino's and Bebe Depot Plus.
Babies'R US actually have decent pricing on a lot of articles at their regular prices - at least better than the pharmacies. Especially the weekends when they have baby supply deals - watch out, get there early or crazed moms will be diving over you to get the last item off the shelf on special.
Words of advice when looking to buy used :
- if it is a crib make sure it is built after 1987 for the spacing between the bars.
- if it is a car seat / capsule for infants my advice would be to stay away.
They expire 10 years from date of manufacture, and my new Peg Perego Primo Viaggo says it expires 5 years after manufacture date.
If you want it, get a decent stroller and buy a less expensive infant seat from Graco or Evenflo. The infant seats are only big enough to be used for the first 6-7 months anyways. So no use spending $250-$300 on an infant seat just to match the stroller.
If I had known that my Pliko P3 stroller came with a strap to safely snap 3rd party car seats into the stroller I wouldn't have bought the premium Peg Perego car seat. No one at the stores mentions that this strap comes free with the stroller or that you can fit different brand seats onto the stroller.
Thanks for starting this thread !

Highly recommend this service!Meh. I used to get the service from Small Planet, but at some point they started sending ALL of the collected diapers to the landfill instead of recycling or composting...and they didn't tell the customers. I think it was only this summer that they implemented a new "recycling" process. And there's more controversial information about them at http://www.fumento.com/environment/diapers.html . Regardless of all that, what they're doing now is better than just throwing the whole thing in the trash.
But if you really want to divert diaper waste from the landfill, use cloth diapers. You'll probably save money that way, too, especially if you end up having more than one child. They're not practical for everyone, but definitely should be considered. There was a long thread at http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142301 with more info.

We swore by Pampers swaddlers for the first 3 months. Size N and Size 1 were great. Huggies N and 1's always leaked. Now that we are after month 3, we find that Pampers Swaddlers size 2's do not hold in poop at all. Everytime she goes, it goes all over her back, and down the leg. Those 'explosive ones'. The only thing that holds them now is Huggies with the elastoband. So now, we use a combination of Swaddlers, Huggies, and Teddy's Choice. It's quite a science! LOL...
Pampers coupons were available a few weeks ago in the P&G brandsaver flyers. They also have a good 'Gifts to Grow' program allowing you to collect points when you buy their product. However, you'll find PharmaPlus and Shoppers have periodic sales on their mega sizes which brings down prices from $21.99 to as low as $13.99 / pack. That's the time to stock up.
Good free pregnancy / parenting book is from statefarm website. Go to the family planning section, but user id 'good', and password 'neighbor' and you get a 700 page hardcover book absolutely free!. We got the Mayo Clinic book, but I believe it has changed now.

That's the first I've heard of that! That article doesn't mention Small Planet, but some U.S. companies, where did you hear this info about Small Planet itself? I'd be curious to get more details of this, as if it's true, I'll be dropping them. Did it make the news or something?

On the topic of strollers, get your significant other to try folding up the stroller, put it in the car etc etc. Some of them weights a ton... like the "travel systems", hard to travel if you can't get it in the car... I borrowed an infant carrier and bought a universal carrier stroller <$80. Can't beat this combo for sheer weight. Your back will thank you.
Also a bit of info. If you have hereditary family medical condition, check out cord banks where they store cord extract stem cells. You can read about the pro/cons yourself.

Didn't think my first post on Red Flags would be about Diapers, more like blank media deals or something, but here goes.
When our daughter was born we had lost of those samples from Huggies and Pampers and we too, along with others here is sounds like, decided to go the Pampers route. However, we were buying our wipes at Costco (still seems like the best deal to me) and we noticed Costco's own Kirkland Brand of Diapers. Since they have no samples to try of theirs we asked a CSR if we could have/try some. She mentioned that as with most all Kirkland brand stuff, you are welcome to buy, try and return, even diapers (obviously, don't bring back the used ones  ) "Even if there is only one left we will take them back" she said. So we tried them, they are certainly the best $:diaper ratio, but even better than that, they have been great. They have douple elastics so leakage has never really been a problem (except after trying prunes, but thats another story >:( ). PLus, I think its kind of cute when she is crawling around in just her diaper and there is a big "Kirkland" stamp on her backside. Reminds me of seeing the cars on the road with the dealership sticker on the back. If you have access to a Costco I say try them out, you have nothing to lose, and like I said, we are completely satisfied with them, plus we get the wipes there too anyhow.
As for toys, you can always fiund the sales sections of all the flyers, but in all honesty we had GREAT luck at yard sales this past summer, especially for infant toys. The kids can't be very rough with this stuff as they are quite little, and grow past it quite fast so it hardly gets used. Almost all of it is easy to clean in either the washer or with some dissinfectant wipes, and when people see you coming with a little baby to their yard sale they are heaping this stuff on you and practically giving it away price wise. THey are just happy to see someone else get some use out of it. I'm always amazed at how much I see some of the stuff we picked up at yard sales selling for in the stores, even on sale. I realize that Yard sales may not be the most practical/easiest for everyone, but for the person who said they are due in March, the yard sales usually start full force in late May so it should be perfect for you.
Maybe another topic for here, unless there is an ongoing one somewhere else? RESPs. After much debate we went with our Bank, but I'm STILL not sure whats the best..??
Hoep you find some of that useful

Literally!! (can't believe noone else picked up on that one)
Anyways, our daughter is 2 months (still in size 1, but about to hit size 2) and we just use the Save-On diapers. We get the occasional leak, but I'm pretty sure we'd be getting that with whatever diapers we used.
We usually get our baby wipes at babies r us. It's some generic brand that comes with about 4 bags in a box for like $12 or $13. Do you know the price of the costco wipes and how many there are?

Thats true. First we were using huggies and it will start leaking even may be in next our or so. Where pamper is good. But the only problem with pamper is that if we are a little bit late in changing diaper it will break.

For my 1yr old daughter we used two sets of diapers. One cheapo and one high priced. The cheapo would be the Equate brand from Walmart & the other set is a Pampers. We would use the cheapo when the baby's just at home and use Pampers for bedtime and whenever we go out.
Be careful with baby wipes, some might be cheap by piece but it's thin & small so you'll end up using more.

Read my post A3 Pramette is $388 at MiniCircuit.ca
Thanks... I did read your post. I wasn't referring to the A3 Prammette, I was referring to the P3 Pliko Prammette which is about $450-$499... they don't have it at Mini Circuit, but here is a listing for it:
http://www.baby-boom.co.uk/acatalog/MamasPapasPlikoCollection.php
If you look at Mini-Circuit, you'll notice the prices for the P3's are more than the A3's in general. P3's are lighter, and don't have the pushbar across the top which makes the more of a compact fold which was the point I was trying to make. However, the A3 is good in the sense that it is more solidly built.

We've always preferred Pampers and have a 3 1/2 month old baby girl. I wish there were more coupons/deals for pampers.
Deals, you want deals....
Ok, here goes - On the first Monday of the month bring along someone 55 or better, go to Zellers and buy your baby stuff for 10% off.
Price match them to Walmart for the diapers (about $15 at WalMart and around $20 at Zellers).
Then use 20% off gift cards (described in the Athome hot deals thread or if you don't want to get into the gift card program - buy your cards for 10% - 15% off in the buy & sell forum).
You end up with up to 30% off the price you would pay anywhere else.

Just to continue the "potty" talk, The Diaper Genieodourless disposer is 49.99 at Walmart with a $7 MIR.
It comes with some coupons books inside for the same product so you might need to do the returning and buy another one game to use the $5 coupon placed inside

Literally!! (can't believe noone else picked up on that one)
We usually get our baby wipes at babies r us. It's some generic brand that comes with about 4 bags in a box for like $12 or $13. Do you know the price of the costco wipes and how many there are?
We used baby wipes regularly for our first child, but after a while we found that the detergent (chemical) was pretty harsh on him. We switched to simple baby facecloths and just wet them and then rinse them, of course we seperated the bum ones and the face ones. We only use the wipes now when we are travelling or my wife wants to remove her nail polish.

Nothing new seems to come on sale.
My wife just bought the Avent ISIS manual pump but it is not working for her.
Get 100x more milk with hand stimulation over the ISIS.
Guess pumps are like diapers - some products work better for one person than the other.
She made her purchase based on friends and eopinions.com
The only 'deal' I'd say is used or rental. Local classified web sites have good prices if you are ok with a used article or you can rent them for cheap too.

Here are some deals and/or ways to get a deal for your new born baby.
I invite anybody who has some good deals to post then as follow-ups to this thread...
For those of us in the GVR, the stroller prices at TJ's Kids (tjskids.ca) are almost always the cheapest in town if you don't want to buy online. Unlike minicircuit, though, they don't have a flat shipping fee, so you'll have to contact them for shipping if you are outside of the GVR and can't buy it at one of their stores in person.
As a comparison, for the Peg Perego Pliko P3:
Minicircuit Pliko P3 Classico (2005 version, from the available patterns) (http://www.minicircuit.ca/mi00051.htm) $328 + $30 S/H
TJ's Kids Pliko P3 Classico 2006 Edition (http://www.tjskids.com/cart.asp?whichpage=2&mode=price&search=null&maincat=53&category=70&brand=0&expand=categories&pagesize=&item=2253) $339.98
TJ's Kids Pliko P3 Classico 2005 Edition - Clearance (http://www.tjskids.com/cart.asp?whichpage=1&mode=price&search=null&maincat=53&category=70&brand=0&expand=categories&pagesize=5&item=1289) $289.98

My wife was lucky to have several friends with electric pumps that they no longer needed to use, so we were able to borrow different ones to find one that worked best for her. Electric's the best option, but pricey... however, given how much the pump will be used, it's worth it.
We ended up long-term-borrowing the Ameda Purely Yours electric pump.

It was quieter than the other units we tried, such as the Medela Mini-Electric; and, with dual pumps, faster too.
As for baby wipes... don't laugh, but even though we initially stocked up on Pampers moistened baby wipes (great sale price at TrUs every now and then, $9.99 comes with travel case), we too only use them when on the road now. At home, we use Kirkland-brand paper towels (folded in half, ripped into three pieces), dipped in a container of warm water. Very economical, very strong, and we control the temperature. Kirkland paper towels are about as strong as Bounty towels, and cost a lot less than Bounty... and definitely a lot less than baby wipes!

That Ameda Purely Yours pump is simply amazing. I've dropped the pump unit on the floor like at least 5 times and it still works. Not only that, it is super effficient. But I cracked the funnel once. I don't know how other people use manual pumps, electric is the way to go. The upside to using the electric pump is that you can get lots of milk if you use it 4-5 times a day. And on the upside, I'm 10 pounds lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight by simply using the pump and I get to eat for two !

Forgot to mention... in the 2006 Vancouver area Entertainment Book, there's a 20% off (up to $25) coupon for both TJ's Kids, and Discount Diapers. These are two of the best-priced stores in town as it is, getting a 20% discount is a nice bonus.
What's more, since many people who buy the Entertainment book will probably never need these coupons, you can probably bum a coupon off a friend without needing to buy a book yourself.
Back to diapers, for those who prefer Pampers (like us), keep an eye on the Real Canadian Superstore flyers... they frequently put the boxes on sale for $38.99/box. For size 3's, that's 148 diapers, other sizes vary. Size 3's a good one to buy case-sizes for, we've gone through four cases already of Size 3's with room to grow still.
If you join the Pampers website program, you'll get coupons in the mail periodically that include a $4 off a case coupon. That takes it down to $0.236 each for a premium size 3 diaper, not bad.

Safeway this week has the boxes of Huggies on sale for $29.99 for 144 of size 3, I'm not sure how many come in the other sizes. A good deal especially if you have a huggies coupon, or if you have an entertainment book with the Safeway coupon for $5 off a $50 purchase. I've still seen some stores with the discontinued sized packaged of Safeway diapers still for $5.89 for 40 of the size 3, as well as other sizes. Safeway has had some of the best deals I've found. They sometimes have buy 1 get 1 free on Safeway diapers. I've also seen the Pampers mega packs for $14.99 when they had their customer appreciation day for an extra 10% off, so with a coupon I got them for $11.99.

Our daughter is 6 months old now and we tried these as well. There are 2 grades of Teddy's Choice - regular & Supreme.
The Teddy's Supreme is great! Similar to Pampers style and has a cute Snoopy logo :)
One other brand that no one has discussed yet is Safeway brand. We really stocked up when they had their Buy One Get One Free event about 2 months ago - net price was something like 0.15 a piece for size 2 diapers (awesome deal). No leaks at all and she's had some biggies...

Wouldn't shipping kill the deal on the diapers?? (I haven't tried going through the checkout process to the see the final cost myself)
For more coupons and free stuff, when you're in the hospital, usually someone comes by with a gift basket and asks if you want to receive coupons for various baby supplies. I think it was Welcome Wagon. They send you a bunch of free starter samples of formula , bottles, etc as well as coupons for diapers and formula. Just be prepared for alot of other junk mail too - RESP companies, book of the month club, baby photos etc...
As for preference of diapers, as others have stated, it will vary. We found Pampers good for new born, Huggies for size 2-5 and Pampers/ Parents Choice brand for training diapers to be the best.

'As for breast pumps, don't go with the manual ones they don't work.'
Well, it does for my wife! She only pumps rarely, so electric would have been overkill, and a waste of money.
As for diaper genie type things, we bought one, but the refills cartridges are expensive, and they run out fast, so we just use the free plastic bags our diaper service provides now, and we modified our diaper pail to fit these.
We do use wipes, tried using cloths and warm water for awhile, but it gets messy with poops, and we just found the convienence of wipes to be worth the money, for us.

Same thing happened with us using Huggies. I think Huggies are softer, but after washing poop stained shirts 3 times/day, we had enough and went for the pampers too and never looked back.
I think it depends alot on the build of the baby too. My oldest daughter was great with huggies, my infant fits better in other brands. I swore I would only use the top 2 name brand but I have tried other no name ones as well. Teddys Choice - from loblaws, fortinos, no frills, etc..., is excellent. They recently "revamped" them. I would say that they would hold up against huggies and pampers anyday, much cheaper too.
Teddys choice large box: $29.99 vs. Pampers or huggies big box $38. - $43
If you just want a small bag to try teddys choice is $12 compared to $16-20 for the other 2 brands.
By the way, a bit off topic, but the best thing for getting out the stains of all kinds is a laundry booster called " AMAZE" (made by sunlight it is a powder in a small box for about $4-5) best thing I ever bought for stain removal. I have been able to save so many clothes with this stuff, that other stain removers like shout. etc.. couldn't even touch

Be careful which seat that you buy. Depends on what kind of car that you have. Many of the convertible car seats do not fit proporly into smaller vehicles ( especially if it is rear facing) I have a eddie baur 3 in 1 that I bought with my oldest ( she is 2 now) I can use it in my minivan, but couldn't use it in my saturn before I got the minivan. the base is too wide to fit in proporly.
Bought a Safety First Comfort RIde from the bay (here is the link for it on sears :
http://www.searsbaby.ca/e/products/productdetail.cfm?&ProdId=1887&ProductCatId=70&PageNumber=2&MaxRecordsToDisplay=7&MinimumPrice=0&MaximumPrice=0&ProductTypeId=0&BrandID=0&ColourFamilyID=0&SizeValue=
Paid just over $100 on sale.
In the long run, it still will do fwd and rear facing up to 40 pounds and after that you can just buy one of those small boosters for about $30, will still be cheaper in the long run and more portable. I would have done it the first time around if I had thought of it in those terms.

If you are getting a convertable carseat, you can save some money buying the Cosco Alpha Omega. Its the same thing as the Eddie Bauer version minus the name and color co-ordinated fabrics.
But as others have posted, if you have a compact car (older Corolla's and Civics) you may have to move the front seat(s) forward to make room for this large carseat when used in the rear facing position.
Also, make sure you get one of the newer ones that have the little clip thing that helps the belts flat. The one we have doesn't have this and the belts twist around taking your kid in and out of the seat - its just a pain to keep spinning the belts back flat, especially now with winter and they are all bundled up in snow gear...

I got some advice to get a diaper disposal kit... something genie disposal kit ... i saw that at toys r us and ita bout 40$ but the refills is like $7... im thinking the refills will cost me more money but are they necessary ??

My vote is that they are not necessary. We bought one for our newborn, and after a few weeks we just threw the dirty diapers into a old plastic bag from the grocery store, tied it up tight and threw it into our garbage bin in the garage. We ended up changing diapers in various areas of the house, and it was not so convenient to always go back to the genie to dispose of them. We keep spare plastic bags everywhere around the house. I would try it without a genie for a while, and if you find the smell is getting to you, then buy the genie. You will also find that in the first few weeks/months, the diapers don't smell too bad. When the child starts on solid food - then we can talk about smells.
Good luck!

We tried the new Cosco Alpha Omega and still found the shoulder belts frustrating -- even with the clip thing that's supposed to help the belts lay flat. Our 7 month-old HATED riding in it. We returned it after 3 weeks of struggling. We finally decided to "bite the bullet" and spend the $$$ on the Britax Marathon -- it was the best decision we ever made! The straps NEVER get twisted, the seat is much more comfortable for our little one and he has a great view out the window (which keeps him occupied). It's one of the best-rated car seats out there -- especially when comes to side-impact collisions. It is now available in Canada through TJ's Kids and other specialty baby-ware retailers. NOTE: this will NOT work for smaller cars. We've got a Volvo Cross Country station wagon and have lots of room to spare, but I think it would be to bulky for a Corolla or other small sedan.
P.S. If you want to save money by shopping in the States, the Britax company told me that the U.S. and Canadian versions of the carseat are EXACTLY the same with the exception of labelling. The Canadian version had to have french labelling added, as well as a lower weight threshold printed on the label due to Canadian laws. We bought ours for about US$250 including shipping.

Getting closer to the day... need to find out about breast pumps... from what i've read here , some are good others are not as good in getting the milk out... dont want to spend $$ for something that doesnt do the job... so any advice or links ...
Also, what kinda stuff i need to buy besides the obvious crib, stroller and car seat... some advice i've received is that i should over do it and buy a lot of stuff coz the baby will outgrow what i buy fast...
I got some advice to get a diaper disposal kit... something genie disposal kit ... i saw that at toys r us and ita bout 40$ but the refills is like $7... im thinking the refills will cost me more money but are they necessary ??
ps: diaperless babies ...google it, you'll find a lot of sites about it :P it seems a lot of work and unless you are 24/7 with your baby i think its hard to train your baby ...
Regarding diaper genie, it may be better to get one or 2 step-on garbage can.
Regarding other stuff, some people used to get a glider rocker, because when the baby is cholic it may be easier to put the baby to sleep on a rocker rather than keeping him/her in a crib

NOTE: this will NOT work for smaller cars. We've got a Volvo Cross Country station wagon and have lots of room to spare, but I think it would be to bulky for a Corolla or other small sedan. We didn't have a problem putting the Marathon in our Mazda Protege in either rear-facing (behind passenger seat) or front-facing positions. But it IS relatively wide, so if you have two of them in the back seat of a compact car, then there's not really enough room for anyone else to sit in the middle.
P.S. If you want to save money by shopping in the States, the Britax company told me that the U.S. and Canadian versions of the carseat are EXACTLY the same with the exception of labelling. The Canadian version had to have french labelling added, as well as a lower weight threshold printed on the label due to Canadian laws. We bought ours for about US$250 including shipping.Does your US model Britax have the CMVSS approval on the label? http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/faq/safety.htm says:
"Every child car seat sold in Canada must meet Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS). Only child car seats that meet Canadian standards are approved for use in Canada. A simple way to find out if a child car seat is approved for use in Canada is to check the label. Each child car seat sold in Canada will have a statement on the label indicating that it "conforms to all applicable Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS)." "

There's an excellent glider and ottoman set available at Costco right now for $290. It's made by Shermag specifically for Costco, and they have only a few left (and they won't be restocking it). It looks a lot like this, but doesn't have the little locking handle shown in the picture: http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/babyant_1875_10965169

Can you please tell me which Costco has this glider and ottoman set? Thanks!I've seen it at the Brampton and Heartland (Mississauga) locations. They also had a floor model at the Mississauga South location back in December, but they should've received another shipment since then.
Unfortunately, I can't find my receipt right now so I can't get you the Costco item #. But if you call your local Costco and ask if they have the glider and ottoman set for $289.99, they should be able to figure out which one it is and let you know if they have it in stock.

No links, just advice. If you can afford it, go electric. We have an Avent ISIS and it was just OK. Other families we know went electric and felt that it was much quicker and less fussy. See if you can rent an electric model in your area to start if you are unsure. There are a few places in GVR that rent Medela units which is a brand that was mentioned at our breastfeeding clinic.

There's a number of places to buy it... The Medela Pump In Style is the best unit... it's few more bucks, but really worth it... Just as a tip, if you go to a breast feeding clinic, they sell them there much cheaper (atleast the one I've been too.
Edit: they also have the accessories if you need extras.. again, cheaper than at a store.

The glider rocker was available in the Ajax location 2 weeks ago with plenty of stock available. We purchased ours there, and it's quite decent. Keep in mind, it's not the same as high end Dutlalier models you might find at baby stores - but it's well worth the $298 and beats anything else we've found at that price.
Too bad I didn't come across this post earlier - The Baby's Room just completed their Boxing Day sale yesterday (Jan 08). The sale was a "pay no taxes" one on all furniture, and 20% off + no tax on all bedding. Their prices are decent on furniture, but you HAVE TO check out the quality of their bedding ensembles. It's made in Pickering and they have 3 locations: http://www.thebabysroom.ca/

Good luck!
OR you can purchase these mini bags that can hold one or two diapers at a time. They are great. We saw them hanging by the check-out line at Wal-Mart. It's about 100 mini scented thin plastic bags to a box for .97 cents! They're great for travelling too. However, I can't seem to find them anymore. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Once again, they are great! And cheap! I gotta go hunt them down.

Hey guys,
Just in case you all weren't aware that at Dominion (and other grocery stores owned by Dominion e.g. A & P) They have something called the Baby Club, where you can buy your diampers, formula & such and when you pay make sure you give the cashier your Air Miles card. For every 10 "Baby Club" Points you receive, Air Miles will send you a $20 gift certificate at Dominion.
Comes in handy!
Hope this helps.

Just a note to add to this thread since mostly everyone will have babies ... www.pampers.ca has their rewards system on again.
Every time you buy specially marked pampers diapers and pull ups, you get a code that gets you points that you can trade for rewards. The codes are on stickers stuck to the plastic now (not on the cardboard box like they used to be)
I figured this was coming again since my youngest is almost finished with diapers. I guess that's reward in itself :D

Here, here. We have both the orignial and newer wide mouth Diaper Genie. Used it on the first kid when we didn't know better. I don't think we used it on the second, and definitely not on the third. I got one free and one at garage sale (or yard sales for non-Quebecers) so it didn't cost us much, but emptying the thing is far more hassle (and $$ on refills) than just throwing them in the kitchen garbage and throwing out the bag at the end of the day. Unless you have to keep your garbage in your house for longer than 48h (and I hope no one has to), better off avoiding the diager genie/disposal systems altogether.

If you try the pump at the hospital, they will give you the bottle and stuff that will work on the ones that you rent. You can try it at the hospital and see if you like it befor you rent . At least that was how it was for me ( in Hamilton, ON at St joe's). Mind you , both my babies were C-section and I was in the Hospital for 5 days, these days, I hear that they kick you out after a day if it is a natural birth, maybe not enough time to try the pump.
That being said, I tried the electric and the avent. Much preferred the avent. You just have to make sure that you are using it PROPORLY. Sounds stupid but if you aren't it could definately be more work than the other electric pumps.

My wife uses a handheld manual pump, works just fine for her. She doesn't need to pump very often, though, as she's with baby most of the time.
We have an Alpha Omega convertible car seat (after taking back an Evenflo one), we're fairly happy with it, and the boy seems to be comfortable in it.

Also, you might want to pick up a cheap stethoscope and use that. My wife is a nurse, so obviously we already had one, but it was neat to listen to the baby in bed in the mornings. Not as good or clear as the doppler, but fun regardless.

Sprinkbok, you could buy a fetoscope (http://www.allheart.com/om13fetal.html) relatively cheaply, and that'll let you listen to the heartbeat as often as you like without any worries of side effects.

yeah we had rented the pump from SDM for about a month and then was able to use the manual pump from Avent. My wife would just sit in front of the tv and pump. It would only take her about 5 mins to get a bottle full.
our baby outgrew the Graco infant seat at around 8 months so I had to look for another car seat. I did some research and got the Britax Marathon. This thing is great. Highly rated for comfort and safety; mind you it cost $300 but you cant put a price on your kid

One other comment, no matter what car seat you get, make sure you drop by one of the free police car seat clinics that they have. They have experts there to ensure that you are securing your seat properly in the vehicle. Also most dealerships will give you the safety latch for your car seat, which prevents the seat from moving forward during an accident, for free. They should install it for you as well. Just ask them.

I have the Vancouver Entertainment book but I did not find a TJ's Kids coupon. I found the Discount Diapers one, but I don't see the TJ's one. Can you tell me what page it's on?

This MAY be true, but I wouldn't (and didn't) risk it. I was all set to buy a US Marathon...I was in a store staring right at it. But the fact that it wasn't labelled as being approved by Canadian standards changed my mind. Trust me, I wanted to get it and save some $$$, but I'd rather pay a bit more and KNOW that what I was getting was going to be up to our standards (the US standards are lower, from what I understand). Peace of mind...PLUS, if it doesn't have that label, it's apparently illegal to be using it in Canada.
On a side note, I went with the Britax Marathon because of it's reputation as one of the safest car seats in North America. This is our first child, and I'm not going to cut corners when it comes to his safety. I installed an Alpha Omega convertible in my in-laws minivan, and there was a noticeable quality difference.

I totally agree. If you get an accident/pulled over; the police can fine you for having an illegal car seat as well insurance may not cover too. I was looking at the Evenflo Triumph (very highly rated)in the States but didnt bite due to CSA approval

My 2 cents:
Huggies all the way (2 girls)
don't bother with the genie - covered garbage can for wet diapers, grocery bags outside immediately for poopy ones
Chariot strollers ROCK (http://www.chariotcarriers.com ) - calgary made, convert from jogger to stroller to bike trailer to ski trailer. they're a bit pricey but well-made and a godsend - make sure you get the double if you're considering >1 kid. we have the cheetah 2
for just around town get a Baby Bjorn - much better and more comfortable than the other brands, worth paying the premium for. great for shopping and quick trips; don't bother lugging a stroller around. when the kid is bigger just use the little umbrella stroller for $15
Oh yeah, most importantly, read "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" - this is the bible. amazon link (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/009190255X/qid=1137164947/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl14/702-5752491-2503243)

question for anyne who uses the kirkland lake brand of diapers...do they have the stretchy tabs like huggies? i think that's why i am not a huge fan of pampers. those tabs make all the difference in my eyes.

If you are talking about the Kirkland ones from Costco, my friend has used them and was not all that impressed. If you are looking for a cheaper brand ( non huggies or pampers) try teddys choice from one of the loblaws family of stores. They changed them ( the design and make up) in the last year and they are really good. About $10 a case cheaper than pampers and huggies too. I quite like them - I have 2 girls. I think that right now you can find coupons in the baby secions of these stores for the Presidents choice / Teddy's choice products.

I tried one box, but found very often that the tabs ripped off when I was opening a new diaper. I ended up returning the whole box. According to the clerks at return clerk at Costco, Kirkland diapers are made by huggies.

On diapers...
I was a Huggies fan for 13 yrs and still prefer them over Pamers (Pampers smell weird)
I must say though I just bought a box of Huggies and I didn't like them as much as the store brand I have been buying!!!
Sz 1 and 2 i liked Parent's Choice from Walmart best and Size 3 i really like the Teddy's choice brand.
Having circulated between all 3 for each size, I can safely say the cheaper ones are just as good or nicer. The size 3 teddy's choice definately seem nicer and better quality that the Huggie's size 3 I have. Just no Lion King :(
Oh and Huggies were/are on sale at Walmart for $21.97 a BOX!!! use a coupon and even better!

We're doing up a nursery for our baby (due March 10th) and I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find children themed knobs for a dresser.
Didn't find any at places like Kent or Home Depot. Found a few at Attica Kids locally but there wasn't much selection. Anybody know where I could find some online ? tried e-bay with no luck.

You could try using everyday items, hotglued onto ordinary knobs, ie, kids wooden blocks or dinky cars, etc. There's a fabulous store in toronto that sells every type of knob you can imagine, mostly for kitchen cupboards; unfortuantely I can't think of the name right now to check if they have a website. Have you tried Ikea?

Thanks for the warnings
yup i only bought 1 of each of the sizes to experiment... heard mixed reviews on huggies... heard pampers are generally better... it's gonna be our first ...so not sure what to expect... been reading about diaperless babies as well... so..may be we'll try that technic and wont end up using diapers :P
Try out the Superstore brand. I pick up the 160 size 3s for $29.99. We've tried pampers, huggies, walmart, SDM, etc. The superstore brand (Teddy's choice?) are the best value, they fit better, and they soak up more crap than any of the others...

What a load of crap. We know when our daughter HAS pooped (red face, stops playing), or when she HAS peed (shiver), but to get the child undressed and to a "proper receptacle" in a few seconds... forget it.

Zellers has a "baby days sale" going on right now.
They don't have a huge selection of things but what they do have is at a decent price, I think.
Car seats seem to be reasonably priced. Any idea what is better for kids when they get too big for the standard 40 lb car seat? Booster seat with or without back?? I guess it depends on how big they are and how the car seat/shoulder belt fits them.

Anyone know if the literide from Graco any good? I saw it on promotion this week for $237. I am looking for something not too bulky, sturdy enough to last me for at least 2 kids :P and light enough for my wife to put in the trunk with one hand (just in case she has the kid in the other)
Oh another thing, the reason im looking for the travellers kit is because I wanted to get both the baby seat and the stroller... Are they all standards? Lets say if I buy a Graco Car Baby Carrier/Seat... will it fit into a Peg Perego Stroller.. or vice versa?
If thats the case, I can go for a more recommended "cadillac" version of a stroller and a regular Seat.. since ill be using more of the seat right?
Thanks

I would recommend getting the graco quattro travel system. You can usually get it for $299 at Sears or ToysRUs. Its really good and made of aluminum (light). Its also highly rated. Its pretty much standard but in some cases you can buy an adapater/kit that will allow a different brand of car seat to fit into a different brand of stroller. You would need to go to one of those baby stores (not dept stores)try it

You must be careful when buying both USED and NEW baby equipment on Ebay or in any other US site.
Canada and the US have different guidelines on things like Car Seats, Cribs, and other gear.

The systems are not compatible aross brands. Within the brand they MAYBE, but you have the check for certain, as different models are made to work with different systems. There are adapters you can buy, but I'm not too certain about how well they work.
Also, these travel systems are fairly big. You almost need a SUV just for packing these things in.
We picked up a "snap and Go" . Its a universal stroller frame that works with just about all baby seats. And it is light and compact. You'll still need to buy a separate stoller as the snap and go is meant for indoors (small wheels).

The travel system strollers can be big, but they way they fold up can be more important than the size. Our Graco one fits perfectly in our Rav4, but also goes flat and slides into the trunk of my two cars easily. And one of those cars is an old Tercel, you can't get much smaller than that.

well those strollers i would call them "mall strollers". After 4 months of 2 hours a day walking outside the wheel bearing start squeaking, one of the wheel locks broke down after bumping into the curb. In one of the stores sales person said that Garco using cheap plastic which becomes very fragile in the winter and quality overall was not that impressive. Also they take 85% of car trunk space (2001 Camry). Never again i would buy any Garco products.

Our Graco has taken eight months of outdoor abuse on a daily basis, still seems to be holding up good. We live in a new subdivision, so you're 'off roading' a lot through dirt and rocks, and we also take it everywhere, so it's always being opened closed, hefted into a vehicle, etc.

I purchased the Graco Quattro Travel System for my son. However, had I done more research at the time, I probably would not have purchased it. Not that I had any problems with it, but I find the travel system quite large the way it folded up. If I get to do it all over again, I would probably go with the Peg Perego Pliko. After the first 7/8 months of using the carseat with the stroller, I pretty much gave up using the stroller by itself because it is SO big. Instead I purchased a Maclaren lightweight stroller (for it's umbrella fold, but still has reclining seat, so my son can nap in it comfortably). But considering how much I have paid for the two together, I could have just purchased the Pliko. Just my 2 cents.

Sears has their Baby Days going on right now too. You can get the Graco Quattro in this years patter for $319, or last years pattern on clearance for $299. A decent price for a travel system.
And I think these things are not that bad for their price point considering what you get. Not everyone can afford Quinny or Peg Perego - so these are nice for the price. While they may be big, they fold up nice. Considering the size of the unit - I can't complain about their footprint in the trunk.
I noticed ToysRus also has some sales right now. All sales (Sears, Zellers, ToysRus) all end on January 27th so if you're lookin' - consider buyin' soon!

TJs Kids Clearance (http://www.tjskids.com/cart.asp?whichpage=1&mode=display&search=null&maincat=81&category=3&brand=0&expand=categories&pagesize=5) is a good place to look if you want Peg Perego or other better names at good prices. We got a Peg Perego Pliko and an infant car seat (they were sold as a set, which NEVER happens with Peg Perego stuff) for considerably less than regular price, which is all we could find anywhere else. They are 2002 or 2003 models (we bought in late 2004) so they were getting rid of them. We really, really like the Pliko. We tried the Graco, but we are happy we went with the Pliko because it folds up so nicely. We've bought a new car since we've had our little one, but when she was first born we both had small cars, and the way the pliko folded was very handy. It is also fairly light, and very sturdy.

The stroller part is fine but the car seat is not CSA approved so its illegal in canada. If they police pulled you over and found out the car seat is not CSA ; they can't fine you as well if you get in a car accident; the insurance company can nail you on that as well.

Actually they may be able to fine you because it is against the law. The law states that you must use a child seat that has the Canadian Transporation Safety department label on the seat. The US label is not good enough. The label proves that the seat meets Canadian standards. If you were pulled over and the police checked, then I think they could fine you. Not to say the seat isn't safe.... the requirement is to have the Canadian on the seat. I asked Evenflo if they could send me a Canadian label and they said no, they do not guarantee seats for Canada if they are made for the US market.

Greetings,
We are thinking of purchasing a second booster seat, since we have two cars but only one booster seat at the moment.
I am considering getting the same as our first booster seat, which is the Eddie Bauer® 'Stage III' Convertible Car Seat.
It seems to have good padding and features, compared to the other ones we saw of similar characteristics. And it's also on special this week ($169 instead of $199 at Sears (http://tinyurl.com/cbve7)).
I was curious to see if anyone recommends something else, based on the specials this week at Toys R US (http://www.toysrus.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TRUCategoryView?storeId=10051&cs=0&Nty=1&N=24+999990+31019835&catalogId=10052&langId=-1&fs=0) , Zellers (http://zellers.flyerservices.com/noncached_pages/ZELL_PU024E_120_eng_PG0015.asp?SID=725953576&Ref=ZELL_PU024E_120_eng_PG0001.asp&C=&T=&S={C249E23B-6CC4-47AE-9585-27048B826CA2}&CC=0) , or Sears (http://www6.sears.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=27709&categoryId=32809&langId=-1&rrc=1&page=1&nt=12&nr=3&emi=y&tName=SearsThumbnailPage6912.jsp) .
Thanks in advance for your input. I'm planning on buying this evening if possible.

I am considering the peg perego stroller. Anyone has any opinion on their new one, Pliko Lite? It is excactly the same as the Pliko P3 but lighter and cheaper ($248 instead of $338 at Mini Circuit). However, this one doesn't have a tray for the baby in the front. I realize that's easier to put the baby in and out but will that be not convinent if there is no tray????
Also, it comes with a universal car seat adapter strap for any type of infant car seat (which means all brands!!!), is this safe enough and easy to use?

Congrats, and welcome to the wacky world of overpriced stuff that only gets used for weeks (if not just days), and the slippery slope of debt that can come with it! :)
We have a Pliko P3, as do several of our friends. No complaints really, other than the lack of ability to easily push/steer with just one hand... a necessary result of the umbrella-style folding. You can do it, but it's a developed skill.
Not so sure about the Pliko Lite. When we were still using the travel system (we have the Peg Perego infant carrier as well), the side-walls and front bar helped a lot in positioning the carrier in the stroller so that we could snap it in. If you aren't using the Peg Perego carrier, then I suppose this isn't as much of a concern for you since you'll have to use that universal strap instead. Then again, it might actually make it harder, since you'll have to support the carrier with one hand while positioning the strap with the other.
Now that our son is out of the carrier and riding in the stroller itself, we find having the tray to be handy... to clip his stroller toys to, to hold his sippy cup, and to give him something to hang onto. The tray swings out to make it easy to get him in/out, anyway. Personally, I just feel better knowing that the tray is there. As well, it tends to rain a lot around here, and the side-walls and tray help to keep the rain shield away from our son... looking at the Lite, that wouldn't be the case (we're not using the Peg Perego zip-in shield, we're using a Safety 1st generic one because it provides greater coverage... like I said, it rains a lot around here). I wouldn't say that the P3 is necessarily worth $90 more than the Lite, but I certainly don't regret owning a P3 knowing that the Lite model exists now.
Oh, one more thing. Not sure about the safety straps in the Lite, but in the P3, the only anchor points for the straps are at the infant's hip-sides, and the center strap. The infant is free to lean forward, the straps don't pin them to the seat back. In the P3, this means that the tray acts as a safeguard to keep them from leaning out of the stroller. If the Lite has the same straps, then once your infant is older and able to sit/lean, you'll have your hands full keeping them from leaning out of the stroller while you're walking.

It looks like a newer pattern...they didn't have that one when we got ours less than a year ago.
You'd be hard-pressed to find this travel system for less than $299. At times Sears could be $20 or so cheaper depending on the sale, but their patterns are different (I prefered the one we got at TRU).

Thanks for the headsup on the sale! I am waiting for that.
Actually I was there last week and ask for the Peg Perego Pliko P3, and they are still waiting for the 2006 styles. The 2005 is out of stock and cannot be ordered anymore. I was told both the new line of Peg Perego and the baby catalouge will be out in 2 weeks. I think I must go to have a check now. By the way, they have the 2005 style for $349, don't know about the 2006 one yet. It's a bit more expensive than some of the other baby store which carries Peg Perego but if you can find some GC from the RFD Buy and Sell section, you can get like 15% off on GC. That's a better deal! Can't wait for the sale, my baby is coming soon and I need those deals!

Wouldn't you want to apply the 15% off GC against the Graco Quattro Tour Travel System that's on sale right now? 15% off $300 is $255 for a stroller and car seat!
Based on that, I don't see how anyone can justify getting a Peg Perego (Venezia, Pliko, Aria, etc.). The Stroller and car seat will cost ~$500 (even with a 15% discount). For that price you can by 2 Quattro Tour Travel systems!
Having said that, sometimes price doesn't matter for those that love Peg Perego strollers, they are really, really nice. I guess question is if it's 2x really nice :).
Btw, for those looking for exclusively Peg Perego strollers, check out Dearborn Baby Express in North York. That's basically all they sell, and have every model/colour imaginable. Prices are similar to TRU.

I did think about the Graco Travel System at first when I start look for a stroller. However, when I try to fold it and take it, it is very heavy. Maybe I am tiny , that's why it is quite a trouble for me to take it in and out of the trunk everyday. I can imagine it would be much hard if I have my baby with me. That's why I prefer to go for the Peg Perego one. It is only 18lbs so that I can handle it much easily. Also, since the Pliko P3 is umbrella style, it will need less trunk space to keep it.
But honestly, the price that TRU now have for the Graco one is real good (finally comparable to US TRU). I also agree that Dearborn has all the stylesfor Peg Perego (they have stock as well) and as I remember, the P3 cost $329 at their store (2006 model). They even have few 2005 model left for $299. But if you have the GC, TRU maybe a little cheaper than Dearborn.

2006 Pliko P3's are 16 lbs.
For those trying to compare brands, comparing the Pliko's to the Quatrro Tour's maybe like comparing apples to melons. :) They are different types of strollers. Fairer comparsions would be comparing the Pliko's to the Passage systems, or Venezia's to Quatrro Tours based on weight, features, functions, size and pricing model. But then again, they're all strollers that have mainly one purpose

For those of you that don't know, there's the Bugaboo Frog stroller that retails at over $1,000 (not sold at Toys R Us, BTW)! On a recent stroll around Yonge and Eglinton in Toronto (upscale, trendy area for you non-GTA'ers) on a nice Saturday afternoon, over 90% of the strollers we walked by were Bugaboo Frogs.

I work in downtown Oakville, this area makes Yonge and Eg look like the ghetto in comparison. I go out every day at lunch for walks, and see all the trophy wives (or their Filipino nannies) with their designer clad Aryan-looking children in $1,000 strollers, furtively looking around to see if they are being noticed by their fellow socialite brethren. Within the half km long strip of downtown, there are, at last count, 5 high end childrens stores, and two high end pet boutiques (across the street from each other!), as well as many overpriced restaurants. It's like la-la land, a whole different world from how most of us live.

Yes, the Bugaboo Frog... the same one shown in "Sex and the City". What ppl should also know is that household income in that area is probably well over $100K/year and probably not a good representation of Toronto ppl, or even Canada.
I think there's always going to be a battle within all of us to justify spending $200 or $1000 for a stroller. It's all about trends, fashions, branding, etc., we want the "best", but our wallets may think otherwise. It goes for the same for clothes, cars, cell phones, TV's, etcs.
I also think it's safe to say that most ppl in RFD will not buy a $1000 stroller, because we're all here to find HOT deals. Now, if the Bugaboo's somehow had some crazy 50% off sale... then we're talking! :D

Keep an eye out for warehouse sales like Proctor and Gamble. You'll save something like 30% on diapers (Pampers). The last one was in Nov/05, not sure when the next one is, maybe Apr/May?

If you buy those huge box at Costco or Samsclub ... it should last you until the next size up. I think you need 2 box max. I would buy 1 box at a time. Baby tends to grow fast.

With my dd, we switched to cloth diapers when she turned 8 months. I probably only spent $300 - $400 on cloth diapers, and liked them much more than disposables. She was out of diapers recently, at 25 months, so it worked out to approx $20 a month for cloth diapers. Plus I still have the diapers and can resell them or use them for our next child. I didn't switch to save money, but for environmental reasons. In the end, it actually seemed like a posh choice, lol, because my dd had designer diapers that were 100x cuter than disposables. They were probably easier to use than disposables, as we weren't constantly running to the store to buy disposable diapers.
Here are a few Canadian cloth diaper retailers:

they are on sale at Fortinos this week for $24.99 - Had a $1 coupon too . They had ( a couple of months back) pamphlets advertising PC baby products in the baby section. Great deal. Pkg this size of huggies or pampers would have cost $38-45.

Just thought of one more baby savings idea.
If you buy your baby fresh fruit and vegetables, you can cook the food then blend (w/a bit of water) and pour into ice cube trays, freeze, then store in freezer bags. Just defrost 1 - 2 cubes per baby meal as needed. Cheaper than store bought baby food (RFD perk) but also tastes way better, and doesn't include any added salt, sugar, chemicals, or fillers. Super easy.

Yup, my wife does that - tastes amazing. Some baby food tastes okay, but when you nuke the frozen cubes of squash or sweet potato or peas, etc., it tastes great. If my daughter isn't interested in eating it, it doesn't go to waste!

Just discovered a good way to save a bit more on diapers.
(1) Check when SDM have sales on diapers, wait until they went out of stock which is pretty quick from my experience, get rainchecks; (Sales are on quite often, super mega baby-dry at reg. $25.99 will go for $19.99)
(2) Redeem the rainchecks when they have a 20X optimum points Saturdays, which they held something like once every 2 months, which is equivalent to about 40% discount. (each dollar spend = 5 x 20 = 100 points => $ 20 = 4000 points = $ 8 discount max. )
The equivalent price of the super-mega diapers (80 pieces for size 3) becomes $12. plus tax.
Of course, there is some work and a little bit of luck involved. But I did it last time and therefore this is possible, to say the least.

I understand from someone's post earlier that Toys R Us or Babies R Us is having a huge baby sale at the end of the month (March).
Has anyone confirmed or know about this sale :?: I am in the GTA area.
In particular, I'm looking for a Peg stroller and carrier -- and with the gift cards also from sellers on RFD, the deal can be quite nice.
Also, I'm looking to purchase a crib, maybe by Morigeau-Lepine -- anyone know from experience or observations where may have a good deal for these :?:
Thanks!

I was at TRU last weekend and I believe the post about the baby sale at end of March maybe just the one which ends last Sunday (their 8 days sale). However, not a lot of things are on sale.
I am looking for the Peg Perego as well but their Pliko P3 are out of stock already and I am pretty sure they won't put the Perego on sale. We were looking at this particular one too.... anyone have an opinion on how they are??
After seeing it in passing on one of our trips to Costco, we were very excited to go back and purchase it... You can't argue that it seems like a tremendous value - stroller AND car seat for such a low price.
However, after going back we inspected it more closely and were quite disappointed with the build quality, difficulty with securing the car seat in the stroller, and general bulkiness of the unit. My wife, who originally was the advocate for this product, was clearly unimpressed and so we decided to pass.
The following weekend we went to Macklems (Dundas and Bloor) and bought a great stroller - Zooper Waltz. Although money wasn't an issue (parents suggested that they pay for the stroller), we went for a relatively inexpensive product due to quality, maneuverability, weight, and looks. It was only $169 (on sale, $50 off)! It's a 2005 model, which does have one shortcoming (bar, restricting easy access to the basket), but it wansn't a deal breaker for us. It also has great reviews on the web.
So, the moral is, go to the store to check it out, but prepare to be disappointed with the Safety 1st product.

We just bought that one and will be returning it. Not so impressed - back doesn't recline enough (and has a clumsy strap to adjust it), and our model's frame is too small on one side so the wheel doesn't turn properly.

Definitely. You will want to stock up a bit, but I would advise after you have tried the different brands. We initially went with Huggies but found they leaked too much, and hve been using Pampers ever since. Could be the main reason why Huggies are usually cheaper.
On a side note, you can sign up on the Pampers website to collect points from every pampers purchase to redeem for educational prizes for your child!! I signed up the day I found out I was gonna be a proud papa.

Sears has $10 to $50 off strollers and travel systems (except Sears "Value" programs with prices ending in .97) Sears reg. 69.99 - $449.99. Each $59.99 - $399.99
This sale is TUESDAY April 4th only. Also it looks like if you use your Sears card and spend over $250 between April 1st and April 7th, you get a $30 gift card to spend during Sears Days (April 8th to April 23rd). If you spend over $100, you get a $10 gift card.
For more info, check Sears website, it's on their flyer.

According to this review, the Safety 1st Designer 22 car seat which came with our travel system got rated 2nd among all tested.
I don't believe these companies are any less safe than others, you just need to be aware of any recalls or safety issues before buying or even after buying so you can fix it.

Very misleading title. I thought I could trade the little tyke in to get something for him!
LOL!
Ok, my turn to list a deal. It MIGHT already be listed but just from skimming through this thread it seems most of the talk is about diapers.
Baby Formula - If you contact the manufacture or sign up to their news letter they usually send you a bunch of free stuff.
Similac Advanced baby formula - Sign up and the send you $20 worth of gift cards, a free travel bag, and a free container of formula. You can choose Soy formula if you'd like as well. Takes about 2 weeks to get.
Go here: http://www.pharmacommunications.ca/Similac/English/similac.php?partner=google
I also signed up with Enfamil and got a similar deal.
Email Gerber company and they send you a few "Gerber dollars" to use towards the purchase of any of their products. Clothes, bottles, nipples, toys, etc.
Did you know Gerber doesn't supply food products to Canada anymore! Apparently Canada put restrictions on baby food coming in from USA Companies back in the late 90's and soon after lifted the restrictions but Gerber lost so much money on the deal they refuse to start the food district of Gerber back up in Canada.
Another formula deals is with Nestle Foods for a free container of formula.
I SHOULD point out. I started out using Similac but switched to Enfimil for the thicker formula since by baby spit up a lot. It is NOT Recommended that you constantly switch a babies formula.... they're not all the same. So don't give your child similac one week and enfimil the next, then nestle the next, etc. You should ask a doctor their option first.

Is this a good price for the Quattro Tour Travel System?
Graco Quattro Tour Travel System (http://www.toysrus.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?&storeId=10051&catalogId=10052&productId=80045&langId=-1&rfx_page=20&RFX_PassBack=&catalog_name=040806&rfx_catalog=2&)
Anyone have any feedback on it?

Looks like a good deal. We paid $299 for our Quattro Tour travel system about a year ago, however, it didn't come with that nice boot.
Great stroller BTW. A bit on the heavy side but designed nicely. We enjoy ours. :)

Had the Safety 1st Eurostar travel system out today and we love it. For $169.99 at Costco, it's a steal. Virtually identical one at Sears is $320.
Designer 22 car seat attaches nicely in the car with the latch system. Stroller takes up a lot of room in the trunk but I'm sure all of the bigger strollers do. Folds up nicely with one hand and isn't too heavy. Really happy with the purchase so far.
We got a nice pink snuggly for the car seat that has hearts on it. They had it on clearance at Wal-mart for $7. Was originally around $25.

Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on a Glider and Ottoman for the nursery? Most of the ones I've seen are around $500 for the glider and then another couple hundred for the ottoman. Also is it worth the money to buy these? Thanks for any feedback!

My wife and I bought a Glider and Ottoman from the Sears outlet store in Brampton. I believe there is one in Calgary as well.
Out here in the GTA, every few weekends or so, the outlet stores will advertise a further reduction on furniture, plus and extra 10% if you use your sears card.
Anyways, the weekend we went they had a few glider/ottoman combos, varying in price from $250-$500. That weekend it was 40% off the price plus another 10% with the sears card. We ended up getting a Dutalier Glider/Ottoman for $155 taxes in!
The outlet out here has high turnover, so if one weekend they don't have one, another weekend they will. Good luck on your search.

sleepaholic...man thats a smokin hot deal you got!
as for a 'budget' glider, id recommend the one from walmart. comes in two colours (black on black steel frame or beige on black steel frame).
it was $134.99 but rollbacked to $99.99 when i bought mine.
we've had it for about a month or two now and i must say that it works extremely well for the price paid. i still like the dutailer ones at TRU better but at more than half the price difference, this walmart one is totally awesome. comfortable and glides well. works well except for the ocassional squeak on one of the moving pieces (some lithium grease would easily fix that though).
the dutailer ones at TRU have a longer glide...front-to-back motion was longer compared to the walmart.

We have a rocker in the nursery, it's been used maybe 5-6 times in almost a year. I guess it depends on how your baby turns out, really, some parents might need to use it every day. Our boy started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks, and he rarely ever protests when we put him down to sleep.

go back to page one ...Enzo's ebay stuff is decently priced ...I just picked up his best glider for $300 cash at his store ...my wife liked it better than the Shermag that were at babies r us and said it felt as good as the detauliers ...$300 was just the glider ...they have a cheaper(and bigger/wider) glider that comes with an ottoman for under $300 ...just make sure you check his ebay prices before you go into the store, the prices are higher in the store ...you also get to pick the color of the wood, and the fabric.
...re the ottoman, my wife opted to not get the ottoman, she said it just felt strange and unnatural to sit, glide and imagine holding/feeding the baby with her feet up, but, (lack of control) your wife needs to try it herself and see how she feels.
...that said, check sears outlet first ...can't beat that price and get the best name brand too

Well, part of it is definitely just the baby him/herself, some are just fussy. But I'm also quite sure that our maintaining a fairly strict sleep schedule did help. Two naps per day at the same time, and we never let him sleep past 6pm for his afternoon nap, so he'd always be good and tired by bedtime. He slept in our room for the first three months, in a bassinet at the foot of our bed, then he went into his crib in the nursery. If he fussed a bit during the night, we never instantly jumped out of bed to get him, we only picked him up if really started crying. Usually he would stir a couple times throughout the night, maybe cry out once, then quiet down and fall back asleep on his own. We believe that he learned to get himself to sleep without assistance because of our approach, and that continues to this day.
He's now almost 11 months old, and still a great sleeper. Often when we put him to bed for the night, he doesn't go to sleep right away, but he almost never protests. He lays there, batting at his toys, babbling happily to himself, then slows down till he finally goes to sleep, sometimes an hour later. He will also sleep anywhere we go as long as we bring his pack and play, the different environment doesn't seem to bother him much. So we spend quite a few nights away from home, at the cottage, at friends or family, etc, with no problem.
I'm sure someone will disagree with our method, you'll always find someone who does when it comes to anything about parenting (you'll learn that soon enough for yourself). This works for us, though, and little Ben is the happiest baby you could imagine, so we feel it's right.
Congrats on the impending arrival!

My wife and I swear by the book "The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer". We used that method on our daughter who is now 2 and 1/2. People are amazed when we say we have to put her to bed and are back in 5 minutes (and then don't hear from her until the next morning). I would highly recommend this book. It may have saved our sanity. We'll see if it was just a fluke and she's just a good sleeper when number 2 comes in a couple of months.

This isn't really a deal, just something we found really handy with our first. It's called a rail rider and attaches to your crib sides. You use it instead of a change table. It's good for babies, but once they get bigger you don't use it anymore.
The product is called a Rail Rider. a quick google search produced:

We've been using the cheapest Fisher Price model ($30) in our sons room for a year now, works fine. Audio only, but with LED bars that also move when there is sound. The motion/movement monitors seem overly paranoid to me, just something to get parents to spend more money for a dubious benefit.

My wife and I have the LCD display monitor with sound and color viewscreen. I forgot the make/model, but it's the highest end one that Baby's R us currently sells. The logo of the brand is a butterfly or something.
Also has the infrared display to light the monitor in B&W in the dark.
It runs on 900mhz and the picture is clear. Color is somewhat limited in sharp resolution but works well. I like it as the monitor has a belt clip and is easily portable as well as the small viewing screen w/the optional output via RCA's to a TV if you need the big screen. They are expensive but I like the option of checking on our daughter without having to run up the stairs to see if the noise was from her or some residual noise from outside (like on fireworks night)
Also works well while I'm in the bsmt and she's on the 2nd floor.
Camera is easily mountable on flat surface, wall, etc...
Rechargeable batteries in the monitor. Camera must be plugged in.
I would recommend it, but not to those parnoid parents who have to constantly watch thier children as you will constantly be staring at the monitor and not relaxing while the child is asleep.

I was at costco the other day and they had a Back Pack diaper bag filled with Full sized johnson and johnson products ( specifically baby lotion, shampoo, penatin cream, body wash and a sample of nursing pads)
$19.99
It is an awesome deal and and a great bag. They were selling it at Walmart for $35 and I bought it at costco a few months back for $30.
I have a 1year old and 3 year old, so I have had a million different diaper bags and this is the best by far.
- One of the outside pockets is insulated and can hold 2 full size bottles - we use playtex which are wider. I love this feature ( the BIG insulatated pocket )
- the from pocket is a huge attached change pad that Zips down and unfolds - but is still attached to the bag which is kind of handy.
- there are lots of little mesh pockets on the inside for organizing things - powder, etc..
-I believe there is an extra seperate change pad that comes with it
- There is a shoulder strap so you can use it that way instead of a backpack if you choose - which is usually what I use
- there is a small handle on top of the bag which is convenient for just picking it up to put in the car or whatever
- it is pretty big
-It is navy blue with blac accents ( the padded back and strings on the straps and stitching are black)
Honestly, I love this diaper bag. It is pretty big too. I actually bought one for my brother, who's wife is due in Oct. I wish that I had someone else to buy one for. I may even buy another for me. The products inside alone are worth more than $20.
Anyway, enough of my rant, just thought that I would pass this on, because I think it is a great deal. Hope someone else does too
By the way, I bought this at the Ancaster Costco

I have a few friends with that one - the angel care, I hear it is okay, some of my friends have said that the alarm thing is kind of irritating because it goes off a little quickly.
My opinion ( as everyone has one) I have a regular fisher price sounds and lights one. What I do recommend is getting one with the extra receiver that you can take outside or elsewhere, so that you don't have to keep moving the one from your room. You can hear clearly on it and what you can't hear necessarily if you have the volume turned down, the lights show for you.
Why do you need the video one? If your baby sounds like they are in distress, natural instinct is going to kick in and you are going to go and check on them, you aren't going to sit and stare at the video screen ( 9 times out of 10) . It just doesn't happen - especially first time parents. And I can speak as a parent of 2, by the time the second and third child come along, you won't be so nervous and may not even use the moniter near as much, never mind hooking it up to a tv screen.

Very good advice by jgmaull.
Something else I'd like to add about monitors...try and get one with as many channels as possible if you live in an area with lots of babies. Ours only has two channels, and we're in a newer development which is full of new parents, we've had some problems with picking up the cries of someone elses baby a few houses down!
Also keep in mind that the microphones on these are very sensitive, and they broadcast further than you might think sometimes, so if yours is on, assume that any conversations you're having anywhere near it (even a room away) are not private. We've heard our neighbours talking to each other through ours many times. Be aware of this, or turn it off when not in use.

I have tried Angel Care, Fisher Price etc.. and they have noise or they have 2 channels which are taken up in my hood. I instead bought cordless phones with the "room monitor" feature. I found a 3 pack of Sanyo cordless phones at Costco in Mississauaga for $100, they act as walkie talkies, intercom and room monitor...oh and as a phone. You need to use two of the handsets for the room monitor feature, so that leaves you one to use as a corless phone, not a big deal. The mic is very sensitive and works great so far, and your neighbours won't hear your feed as it is 2.4GHZ with encyrption. So if you want a new cordless phone invest in these and skip the baby monitor that will eventually be useless to you.
A number of Sanyo phones have the room monitor feature on them. The set at Costco was the cheapest I could find.
Of course if you want the motion detection features etc...these are not for you.

I have it, and I think it's amazing ...although, I also set it up properly, which most people dont.
You require a 1/4 inch plywood underneath the mattress (cut to almost the same size as the mattress) with the motion detector centered underneath the plywood, this way any movement (including breathing) is monitored perfectly. ...only buy the latest version, as the older one is not nearly as good.
This is what lets me sleep soundly and worry free at night.

We are using an older Angelcare monitor (borrowed from wife's co-worker) and love it. They didn't have the instructions, but I downloaded them from the website and was careful to put a length of plywood under the mattress since our crib only has the wire support, as per the instructions.
In addition to giving an alarm when it doesn't sense movement after a certain amount of time, it can also make an audible tick whenever it senses movement, which is generally each breath. It also flashes an small light in addition to the tick. I've watched and listened closely to the baby breathing and compared it to the Angelcare's ticks and lights and find it extremely accurate on its default sensitivity setting.
tips:
- the sensor pad MUST be placed on a hard surface, so a board between the mattress and wire support is necessary if your crib doesn't have a hard support. Otherwise, movement on the mattress would just flex the wire support and the sensor won't detect the movement and give wrong alerts.
- the sensor pad is placed in the centre of the crib, so it stands to reason that it's less sensitive on the edges. We always put baby down in the centre. The occasional time he's moved around to the edges, the sensor was still accurate, but depending on the size of the board, movement might not be detected by the sensor. Our board goes almost to the edges of the crib.
- only annoyance is that we have to lean over and turn off the sensor when we pick up the baby, otherwise the alarm would go off once baby leaves the crib, but you get used to turning it off, and only forget once in a while (usually when woken up at 3AM and the baby's screaming his head off...).
I'm looking at getting a new one to get more remotes and because ours only has two channels.

I did something similar, but MUCH cheaper. I bought a sheet of hardboard (the kind you use to attach to the walls to hang small tools from) which is virtually the same size as standard crib mattresses. I put the angelcare monitor underneath as described above. I also put a piece of thick cardboard (from the packaging of an A/C unit) underneath the monitor as well to minimize the bounce from the crib springs.
It does give peace of mind, even if it's a placebo. With there being such a lack of understanding of SIDS, anything seems better than nothing. With this setup, the monitor has never had any false alarms.

You can check out Meijer. They're located in central US states (Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky). Direct competitor to Walmart. Good prices, decent quality stuff. The nearby Target I went into was very shabby (like Zellers of old) and had really cheap (dollar store quality) stuff.
There is also Baby Depot at Burlington Coat Factory and Kmart. It really depends on what you want to buy. Most manufacturers have a "Where to buy" page on their site. They'll list online and BM stores there.

Isn't the board supposed to be UNDER the Angelcare unit because it requires a hard & flat surface UNDER it. We just added a board under the unit and put the mattress directly on the sensor unit. It seemed to work fine.
About 2 false alarms in 6 months but that was because my baby daughter moved all the way to one side of the mattress and curled up in a ball.

No, it goes on top of it. The main reason is that the mattress is not as firm as the board and will absorb a lot of the vibrations. So if the board is below the sensor pad, it won't make any difference. However, if it's on top, all the vibrations are transferred to the board since the weight of the mattress is evenly distributed and in turn is transferred to the sensor pad.

well, first you need a solid flat base to put the senson onto, and then you put a board over the sensor with the mattress on top. centered and balanced.

We did the same thing, but got the TRU8885 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001F9KLO/sr=1-7/qid=1155581985/ref=pd_bbs_7/104-6818023-6182356?ie=UTF8&s=electronics) by Uniden. It's a great phone, and works awesome as a baby monitor. It's 5.8 GHz so it doesn't interfere with our wireless network. WOOT had the 3 handset version on sale a couple weeks ago, so we bought that just to get some extra handsets.

Baby Bonus Points ending - act now
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those who collect these points from Ultramart/A&P/Dominion, they are ending the program as of Sept 16th!
Link (http://www.freshobsessed.com/ourPrograms/bbc.aspx?param=ourPrograms/bbc)
Also see the FAQ there.
If you are close to 10 points, better get up to that level before then to get full value for them. If you don't, they will be converted to Air Miles points. This is crap, as BB points are essentially worth $2 each, Air Miles are worth a small fraction of that.
I have nine points (you can check your balance on that site), so I'll be making my last $20 purchase there shortly.

It's been a VERY long time since I've had to buy diapers but here's a list of places you can try. I'm not sure how current the information is so disregard any prices quoted & call first to make sure they're still in business.
Also a CAUTION about buying bulk diapers: ask for a few sample to try first before you buy an entire case of diapers. Depending on how many "hands" the diapers go through when being packaged, some babies get very sensitive to them & develop a rash -- this actually happened to my nephew -- and you don't want to be stuck with an entire case of diapers you can't use. Usually if the diapers are packaged inside the carton they are OK but some are just put into the carton without any additional packaging.

The diapers club pack are on sale reduced from 22.99 to 15.99.
In our case a bag of 80 diapers no3 was only $16 plus tax.
We found these diapers to be a better fit to our daughter and the lining much softer than the major brands.

We tried the pampers baby dry and found them to be okay, but why would they make them narrow compared to the swaddlers?

They also make Size 1 & Size 2 I think in the swaddlers brand. We are using the size 1 swaddlers for our 6 month old right now, we found the regular pampers didn't fit quite right.
I'll have to check out SDM as these are usually over $20 a pack I think.

Diapers - I found that swaddlers were the best for my kids (boy and girl) never had any serious leaks with either of them.
$14.99 at SDM is a great price....You might also want to note the following:
Pampers diapers:
Supercenter/Fortinos/Loblaws, ect - have their cases on for $38.99 (reduced from $44.99). There is currently a coupon floating around in their flyer for $10 off your bill if you buy a case of pampers diapers and a 7pack of wipes ($16.99). Add your pampers coupons and your rockin.
Highland Farms has their cases for $33.99 - note the cases are a smaller count. I figured out that you save approx. $0.02 per diapers using their case. Mind you, if you find a silly clerk, they will take any pampers coupon you have and take it off your bill.
In the case of Walmart - I haven't had much luck with their cases of diapers, BUT they will PRICE MATCH any printed flyer you bring in. So in the case of Shoppers Flyer, if SDM run out, its inconvenient, ect, bring your current flyer to Walmart and at the cash they will automatically change the price to match the flyer as long as the item is the same. Never had an issue there.
as for coupons:

If anyone else knows of any other coupons for Pampers, let us all know.

Same thing happened with us using Huggies. I think Huggies are softer, but after washing poop stained shirts 3 times/day, we had enough and went for the pampers too and never looked back.
I think a lot of this depends on your baby. We found that Huggies fit our kid better than Pampers, but the best fitting ones were the ones they sell at Loblaws/SuperStore - I think they're called Teddy's Choice. They just fit our kid perfectly - almost never leaks - and are much cheaper.

My baby is 4 months and by far Swaddlers is the best. We tried Huggies Supreme and still find Swaddlers fit just right. Baby Dry is ok. We use that for her to sleep overnight because it is more dry than Swaddlers. Plus the new Baby Dry have flexible sticks on which is better than the old one. I also picked up one pack of Cruisers (size 3 will turn to Cruisers) at SDM at $14.99 and I used the $2 coupon from Pampers. A great deal!

Our baby is 1 month old and weighs about 8 lbs. We tested the baby dry last night and found them to be narrow when compared to swaddlers. How did you find them in keeping the #2 away from baby's skin?
I think swaddlers are better at containing #2's compared to baby dry. In your opinion, are baby dry's better for #1's?

I found Huggies Supreme is more narrow than Pampers. For my baby, she seldom poop overnight now so Baby Dry will do a great job at night. But it all depends on your baby. Some babies fit on certain brand better than other.

It's great to hear other parents experiences. So Baby dry does keep baby dryer than the swaddlers when it comes to #1's overnight?
Our baby mainly does #1's at night also...so maybe we will try that for the next few nights.

I found for under a year, brand made no difference...the bodily functions just aren't sizable enough to matter. We used the cheapest ones (Teddy's Choice) that whole year with no problems.
We tend to use Huggies Supremes nowadays for our toddler, but I'm not averse to buying something else if it's on sale. He certainly doesn't care!

Between Pampers and Huggies, we found Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers are the best. They are softer, and keep baby's skin drier than Baby Dry or Huggies.
When we were in Ontario, we usually buy diapers from Zehrs. It's a little cheaper there. We are in Quebec now, and buy from Maxi & Cie. Sometimes they got quite good deals. For example, last week they sell Pampers Size 4 Cruisers 116 pieces box for $39. Usually they sell them for $43 per box. Didn't check for other sizes, but I think their price should be cheaper too.
And yes, save.ca sometimes (I think usually it's every 1-2 months) gives out $2 off coupon for Pampers diapers.

You are lucky my friend. Our 6 month old has had many explosive #2's that the diaper was unable to contain. It seems to happen when she's in her car seat or exersaucer.

Well, like me chime in a bit. My son who will be 4 months old september 11 was started on swaddlers. They were great when he was a newborn but boy did they suck when he got older. We switched to huggies and it was much better. Speaking to other parent we have come to conclusion that swaddlers are great for girls and huggies for boys. Huggies has great padding in the front. Also, tried the no name brands and they are just crap. Save your money and purchase stuff from costco when they get holder. I currently pay $39.99 for 168 size 3 diapers. Yes my 4 month old is wearing size 3.

Bought the Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 Deluxe car seat... my 6 months old boy just got his 2 teeth and has out grown the car seat from my Graco Travel System... Needed this Car Seat ... and it came on sale at $189... Ask for the $5 off when creating a baby registry... and add in the $15 coupons (YMMV which my wife received from toys r us recently) ... Also bought the High Chair for $49 ( and added another $10 off coupon on $50 purchases)

The diapers that were on sale at SDM for $14.99, I found out they are the same price ($14.99) everyday at Atlantic Superstore. Not sure if the same price goes for other Superstores across the country. I'll be buying my swaddlers there from now on.

just letting everyone know that at the children's place, everything that was previously marked down (on sale) is now an extra 50% off...i believe this is the lowest price you can get until everything's shipped to the outlet malls...in the past week or so, the sale was only 30% off the sale price...
today is the first day of the sale...my manger just called telling me to come in tonight because it's been busy so far...
also, the store is having a new floorset this weekend, and it looks like a big one...the store will look quite different by monday or tuesday...
enjoy, and if you have any questions, just ask

The lining is softer and they are shorter providing more mobility wich is just great.

Anyone know of any good baby stores (bricks-'n-mortar, not online) in the States? By "good" I mean anything unique, or of high-quality, and/or just plain old inexpensive. Just another RFDer looking for a good deal! :)
I have heard of USABaby, Carters, and Babies R Us -- any others?
Thanks!
Definitely stop by a TARGET store; not sure how prices are outside of GTA, but their regular priced huggies/pampers = our CLEARANCE (i.e. P&G warehouse sale) price
we bought a BOX of huggies for $20 (approx 100 per box depending on size; or 0.20 per diaper
Bought a box of wipes for $2, refills (package of 5) for $8.99

if your doing some kiddo shoppin in the states, you might first want to search the web for "printable coupons" under your favourite stores - you'd be shocked at the money you can get off. Carters has regular coupons for about 20% off, Babies R Us, Old Navy, Gap, ect. has some too. Just a thought - save more money if you can right?!
Also a note: An amazing store with good selection and cheap prices on baby stuff is BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY. Its a Winners/Homesense type store. You need tons of time to go through there. They can also order for you if necessary. The biggest one I have ever been to was in Florida and I would have needed 2 hours to go through the kids stuff alone. The Buffalo ones are smaller but still decent selection.

For cribs, you can get used ones at Once Upon a Child in Toronto or find a listing on craigslist or buysell which are a bit better than these ones offered. (Snip)
WHOA Bad advice. It is actually illegal in many places to sell second-hand cribs privately. This was enacted in response to a number of baby deaths from cribs that do not meet current strict safety standards. Never buy a second-hand crib, unless it is from a professional furniture dealer that knows safety standards. Don't jeopardize your child.

Your comment's blowing a bit of a smoke. It's perfectly legal to sell second-hand cribs privately here in canada (as long as it was made after 1986). I'm curious to find out where it's NOT legal...
I googled "Canada crib safety standards" and came up with a pretty simple description of what to look for when buying a used crib:
http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/cps-spc/pubs/cons/garage_e.html
or if you want to read the whole crib-safety document:
http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/cps-spc/alt_formats/hecs-sesc/pdf/pubs/cons/crib-lits/crib_safety-securite_lits_e.pdf
Of course, when you buy second-hand, it IS buyer-beware. Just make sure you know what to look for. Obviously, put it all together before deciding on purchasing it. FYI, our crib was purchased second-hand from Once Upon a Child. Had no problems with it (currently being used for our second kid), and saved over 60%.

I tried huggies and papers before, but for me, pampers works better for our 1 months old son. Huggies leaks all the time for us, and pampers works pretty well. However, we are using Kirkland from costco now, it works very well as well and a lot cheaper as well. You can get a box for less than $40 with 248 diapers.

When our son was a newborn (and you run through diapers like crazy), after our initial pack of Pampers Newborns, we tried Huggies Newborns. A friend told us that they leaked, but we thought that all babies are different and we would give it a try. I think every third one leaked and we ended up giving the pack away to a mother who didn't care and when back to Pampers. When we talked to other parents, most seem to agree. After the newborn stage, we switched to Huggies (because it was available at Costco) and it's been fine. So basically:
1. All babies fit a bit differently.
2. Pampers Newborns seem to fit a bit better for most babies.
3. When you reach Stage 2, you'll have to see what's best for your baby.

I have a new born and I can say that the Huggies newborn is slightly smaller than the Pampers. It actually fits better than the Pampers one but you got to make sure the the ribbed edges at the sides are straight and not tucked in, when that happens, leak happens :) Since Pampers is slightly larger, it doesn't happen as much. I think Sams Club has it for 35.98 right now for the case of various sizes ( $4.00 discount ).

True,
for us was Pampers (N swadlers) in the Beginning then after trying a few brands like Costco Kirkland Brand for size 1-2 then Pampers from Samsclub and Teddy's Choice for beginning of size 3(RCSS)
Shoppers Drugmart Life brand where good then I bought a bigger pack and they gave our baby yeast infection.
Now she's walking and using Huggies Baby contoured size 3 (RCSS and Walmart)because the other ones where akward to wear when walking. Tis ones are contoured for an active baby :).
Try different solutions as baby body changes and the most expensive doesn'r alawys mean the best :)

Could anybody please give me some suggestion for toddler car seat, which store has good deal and which car seat is best/safest. There are LOTS of factors involved, like the how much you can afford, the size of your child, the kind of vehicle you'll be putting it in, the position of the seat, whether you want an airplane-approved seat, etc. etc. etc.

Have to say that it's out for Huggies. I have a baby girl going on 4 month now. She's using the size 3 and we tried both Huggies and Pampers. First of all, the Huggies are smaller. We moved from a size 2 to a size 3 early because of that. The pampers have never leaked so far. I tried 2 cases of Huggies because they were cheaper to get at Costco (Costco does not sell Pampers for some time now). But after a few leaks, it's back to pampers even if they are more. I would expect Kirkland brand to be just as bad or worse than Huggies since they are made in the same place.

this is something i didnt expect...LATCH < belt system
Accordion to Consumer Reports, the Chicco KeyFit, Compass I410, Evenflo Embrace, and Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP worked well as long as the seat had a tight fit from the vehicle's safety belts, rather than the LATCH attachments.

I am having a lot of trouble making sense of the recent Consumers Reports article (http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/babies-kids/child-car-booster-seats/car-seats-2-07/overview/0207_seats_ov.htm).
Specifically
A tight fit is important for crash protection, and our testers find that you are more likely to get a secure fit with LATCH than with vehicle safety belts.
and
More seats failed when attached with LATCH than with safety belts, even when the installation was done by professionals. The same has been true in our previous car-seat tests.
Isn't this contradictory? I wish they would give some explanation as to how the LATCH installations are failing.
"Tight fit is important"
"LATCH gives more secure fit"
but "More seats fail with LATCH"
My seat is currently installed with LATCH. Debating whether to try with a seatbelt fit instead...

I would say sears or toysrus are the best. The one thing about sears is that i find there return/exchange policy a little more forgiving than toysrus.
Also, cheaper shipping and more options ( for shipping) with sears and there are more searsstores around than toysrus to make it easier for people to shop.
However, all that being said, toysrus has a bigger selection.

THey are about the same - fairly expensive that is. When toysrus usually has their sales, they tend to be better deals, but i believe both stores will price match what others advertise for the same item.
Keep in mind, I don't know about the people that will be shopping for you, but you want to register where they have the stuff that you WANT. People do not have to actually have to buy the stuff where you are registered ( even though that is the idea). They can buy something off your registry at zellers (for example) and then just let them know ( wherever you have registered) that the item has been bought.
Also keep in mind, other than the big stuff ( car seat , stroller, crib, etc...), people will use the registry only as a guideline. People ultimately are going to buy what they want to buy ( that is my experience personally from my 2 girls and from the numerous baby showers that i have attended and bought for). Sometimes this is good - because first time parents ask for a lot of stuff they really don't need ( generally) and tend to forget a lot of things that they will need alot of. Sometimes this sucks, but i guess you just are not supposed to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Wherever you decided good luck!!!
Just my 2 cents on the matter

We're also in this process although we're expecting end of March. We're registering at Toys r us since they have by far the best seletion. The other option is finding your local specialized baby store and registering there if most people live in your general vicinity. We were VERY tempted to register at dear born our new favourite store in Toronto, but decided to make things easier on everyone by registering at TRU.

Two thumbs up for pampers. My baby is now 20 months old and I once tried the Life brand to save some money but end up doing a lot more dirty laundry.
I never tried the Kirkland brand since I am not a member of Costco. But I stocked up a lot of sizes 4 and 5 boxes during the P&G warehouse sale which runs twice a year. If I remember correctly, the largest sizes boxes were $30 each last time.

Ya I prefer the pampers -baby flex- over the others.. Huggies is a close second but I don't like the smell they have when the diapers full (and I'm not talking about the conents of the full diaper either). :)
I usually go on www.save.ca and get coupons for the pampers for $2.00 before I buy them too. Every bit helps.

I used to use Pampers, then switched to Huggies because Costco stopped carrying them. I agree with the smell thing with Huggies. They also leaked frequently.
So, I switched to the Kirkland brand. In terms of quality, I noticed no difference between them and Pampers/Huggies. Same deal with their wipes, as I like them unscented.
I stocked up on Cruisers one year from the P & G sale. Turns out that the box said Cruisers, but the diapers were actually Baby Dry. Visibly, it's quite easy to tell the difference. Needless to say, I was not impressed. I ended up paying more for lesser diapers than I did at Costco.

Great thread; just spent a couple of hours reading through it and checking out the various recommendations and links.
My wife and I are expecting twins in April, and as we're quite squeezed financially as it is, I'm always on the lookout for deals on baby stuff (and twin stuff when I can find it). Here's the story so far:
We've registered at Walmart (Sears and Toys R Us were just way too expensive)
We're planning on going the cloth diaper route via www.mother-ease.com (we'll probably go with with disposables at first if the twins are under 8 lbs, which is likely)
We'll probably get a Medela Double Select breast pump... not super expensive, and not exactly cheap, but it sounds like a fairly good quality pump
I have my eye on a Graco DuoGlider stroller, as it can accept Graco's carseats (considered the highly-recommended "Snap N Go Double", but it's an infant-only stroller)
Unfortunately, I can't find the Graco DuoGlider in stock anywhere (at a reasonable price), and I'm thinking about driving across the border to buy one
Haven't been able to find a suitably big playard for the twins to share (Graco has a twin playard which is bigger than normal, but Graco says to only have one child in at a time... by the way, is it just me, or are playards ridiculously expensive?)
Does anyone happen to know of any upcoming sales? Is it probably that Toys R Us will have a sale again this spring?

We've got our first baby coming in July. I was planning on getting a Sams or Costco membership as both are about the same distance. Is one better then the other in terms of baby stuff? Im thinking things like diapers, formula, food etc.

To be honest with you, we have a Costco membership & we only got diapers from them one, since I find other places have the same or lower prices on diapers, like Shoppers Drug Mart when they are on sale & you can use coupons & with Costco you can't. Also buy diapers in bulk not just one package at a time, especially when they have the 20 x points, then you get the best deal ;) & for formula, until the baby is born, you don't know what kind you will be using anyways, maybe you need a specific one & Costco might not have that for sale. There are many no-name brands (like Presiden't Choice, etc.) that are cheaper & still give you the same nutritional quality but for less money.

Cloth diapers can also be an option.
It has a high upfront cost, but usually in the end save you a lot of money.

I can't imagine doing that...we have twins & still in diapers...can't imagine where you would store all those dirty diapers & the smell

There really is no significant smell if you use a diaper genie or other diaper pail that is well sealed.
We used a diaper service, so all the spoils went out at the end of every week.
Don;t think I would have liked laundering all the poop...

Never tried using cloth diapers but when you have twins, you need/want convenience, since much more work is involved in taking care of 2 babies at the same time... I know it's better for the environment but for us it wasn't an option.

Our twins will be here in about 3 more months, and we're going to try the cloth diaper route (except for when traveling, etc.). No question, it'll be less convenient, but the savings are worth it to us. When I priced out the cost of disposables over a 2-year period with twins, I was pretty shocked. Cloth diapering, even with the associated costs, will save us several thousand dollars.
We'll grab a good supply of newborn disposables from Costco initially, though. Fortunately, my mother-in-law has a membership, saving us a bit more money.

We're getting a pair of Fisher Price Space Saver High Chairs from Walmart (about $40 each). They require a regular chair to sit on, so they might not be suitable if you don't have a chair to spare. On the plus side, they're inexpensive, relatively portable, convertable as children grow, and highly-rated (5/5 reviews on Epinions and Amazon). Check Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-J5933-Space-Saver/dp/B000BXAI08/sr=8-1/qid=1171301524/ref=sr_1_1/102-8201578-0568128?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products) for more information and reviews.

I noticed a couple of things at Costco today:
1) The Shermag glider+ottoman combo mentioned on pages 6 and 15 of this thread is back... it's just like this one (http://www.costco.ca/en-CA/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10291851). I saw it at the Heartland location for $279.99, but I don't remember the exact shade of the wood or fabric.
2) Set of 10 Baby Einstein DVD's for $76.99 after a $30 manufacturer's instant rebate.

any suggestions for high chairs?
My suggestion would be : Don't get a fancy model or expensive one.
I bought a Fisher Price model for $150 at Sears thinking that we'd need it for a long time. Turns out that after about 5-6 months, my daughter was already using her simple booster seat full time.
While the Fisher Price chair was great, solid, easy to use, etc; now I've got this big bulky item to store until we have our second child.
If I had known that, I'd have bought a plain-jane model from Toys R Us on sale for $60.

I actually have the opposite experience, my son has been in his chair for a year and a half now, it gets a lot of wear and tear, I'm glad I have a better quality chair that can handle it.
Before someone asks, we still have him in the chair because it is much better for containing both him and the mess he makes. Just more convienent, and I can think of no reason to move him out of it yet.

BTDT a very long time ago! We had a high chair that was barely used & many of our friends having kids aren't bother to buy one either. A much better & practical solution is those fold up boosters that strap onto a regular chair & come with a removeable tray. It still contains the mess, use it initially as a high chair but the portability factor is great if you're going to friends, cottage, family function, restaurant, etc -- easily removeable & folds up nice & compact! Double duty, less expensive & takes up much less space!

I have not purchased anything new for my daughter (I'm expecting any day now). I bought a morgaine lepine crib from usedwinnipeg for $250, normally close to $900 new. My baby clothes came from a local family center where you can either donate a bag of clothes and get a bag of clothes, or pay $1/grocery sized bag, $2/garbage sized bag. Most of the clothes I picked up were baby gap, carters, baby roots, etc... decent quality stuff. I also picked up some cloth diapers from there and plan to do my darndest to actually use them!
Whenever I'm at the doctors I pick up a few free newborn disposable samples, along with disposable breast pads and baby wipes.
Nestle has an awesome gift for new moms and moms to be, you get a can of formula, a nice backpack diaper bag, avent bottle, free sample of wipes, and a few other samples along with some decent coupons. You just have to sign up online (I said I had twins and got two sample packs).
Garage sales are in full swing now, and often you have neighourhood or "Groups of multiples" etc sales were you can get some awesome deals.
Considering your baby will only wear some outfits once or twice, and most outfits just a few times, second hand is the way to go in my opinion. If you buy them second hand you can easily sell them for what you paid, or near what you paid to recoup your money.
It's expensive to raise a child so I believe anyway to reasonably cut costs is the way to go. I told my family not to buy any clothes for my daughter because she already has more than the rest of the family combined!!!

I forgot to mention Freecyle (freecycle.org). LOTS of baby clothes and equipment can be found for free from that list. I have recieved a few nice outfits, a very nice folding baby bath, maternity clothes, and an older but still useful high chair - all for FREE! Plus, the nice thing is since I got them free I hope to pass them along for free once I'm done with them.

Just wanted to mention for those who think cloth diapers are more work than disposables - they aren't really. Considering you SHOULD dump bowel movements in the toilet regardless if you use cloth or disposable. Human feces is not meant for landfill (and, besides the environmental aspect of raw sewage in the soil, at least in the cities I have lived in recently there are regulations forbidding dumping human feces in landfill).
We're really going to try using cloth because of the huge savings (most of the diapers I have I received free), but admit it may be more convenient to use disposables when travelling - so we'll see how that works.

[QUOTE=look30;2471184]Here are some deals and/or ways to get a deal for your new born baby.

I know that this is late, but Enzo has a store location in Mississauga, and the store is simply called "Baby Cribs". It's located on Dundas St., west of Dixie in the same mall where Lick's is (It's been a while since I've been there). But it would be on the North side of Dundas.
He may price match or even beat the price on his e-bay posting. But great guy, and has kids of his own.

The one I got folded up nicely, had an adjustable height seat and all the seatbelts.

Enzo has changed his Ebay id from enzo70helio to babycribs1.
After 17 months of daily usage and one relocation to a different city the crib looks and feels like new due to excellent workmanship and materials.
This is the best crib unde 300 I saw as all my friends paid around 450 for something similar.

Anyone have any experience with the AngelCare baby monitor?

All Canadian stores seems to have AC301 only.
Thanks.

For anyone already cloth diapering their baby, or considering cloth diapering - Happy Heiny's has a new one sized diaper that saves you a lot of money as you don't have to buy new diapers in mediums and larges as your baby grows. http://happyheinys.com/
Personally, I bought my dd 15 larges just before the OS diapers come out and I can attest that the OS are a great savings. I have a few left in-stock on my site if anyone is interested. (Only 13 as they are selling out at most stores quickly) http://clothdiapermom.com/ClothDiapers.html PM or email if you have any questions. It's going to be about 5 weeks before HH ships out more OS diapers.
The diaper has 4 rows of snaps to adjust from small to medium to large. The diaper has velcro tabs, is easy to use, and includes 2 micro-fiber inserts. (one small, one large)

I'm posting for two reasons. First to say how fantastic the cloth diapers I got for my baby are (motherease), and second to warn you about a bad experience I had at the Diapereez store in Bloor West Village. This store does not let you return anything - it just gives you a store credit. Which is fine - lots of stores do this. BUT they do not let you use the store credit when they have a sale and they are basically in the stone age in terms of how they manage your store credit. When you take something back they give you a piece of paper (like an old fashioned reciept) that says store credit on it, with a hand written amount of what your credit is. If you lose this tiny thin piece of paper, then they will not re-issue you a credit. I would not recommend this store, as several of my close friends and family have had problems with returns and credit notes.

PLus, I think its kind of cute when she is crawling around in just her diaper and there is a big "Kirkland" stamp on her backside. Reminds me of seeing the cars on the road with the dealership sticker on the back.
LOL I could totally see myself thinking the same thing. My poor future child is going to have to suffer though some photos of being in Kirkland diapers, whether they work or not I'll be buying them for the photo op! haha :)

I ended up getting the Graco travel system - my friend has one & loves it. At first I was very intimidated by the size of the stroller but after we had the sales lady demonstrate how it folds etc. (which was very easily) & how nice it pushed, we were impressed. It'll take me 2 secs to set pull it out & set it up while baby waits safely in the car seat in the truck. It also has lots of storage space that's easy to get to, which I KNOW I'll be using. And being a bigger stroller, it'll also be sturdier once loaded. :) Another friend of mine had the Peg stroller & car seat but she ended up not using it once her daughter turned 6 months old, partially because the kid hated it & also because she outgrew the car seat. They had to buy another car seat to use for the remaining 6 months she had to travel facing rear which was kind of a waste of $$. Atleast with our travel system, we can use it the full year as it's the Safe ride car seat which goes up to 30lbs. I know eventually we may end up with an umbrella stroller but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. For us, the Graco system made the most sense, especially for the $$.

Personally I found the Graco travel systems a bit too bulky for me. After seeing how badly my sister in law scratched up the back of her car (and I drive an SUV so I would need to lift it even higher) - I opted to get pair my SafeSeat with a SnugRider for the "little baby" stage.
I'm VERY greatful I did this as I ended up with a cesarean section and it was the easiest thing to lift (being 12lbs) and open and close. I ended up finding mine in good shape at a garage sale (lucky me), but I know they are about $50-60 in the states vs $100 here.
Once she's a little older we'll put the SnugRider into storage and find something perfect for us over the next few years (that isn't a big and bulky travel system stroller), something that can cut through snow, handle the broken up sidewalks in our neighborhood and is light and easy to use. Our current setup (SafeSeat + SnugRider) cost us under $200.

baby days at Sears seem to happen pretty often.. I'd say 8 times per year. Typical discounts (10%/20%), but nothing to get too excited over.. a scratch day would probably be just as good.

In addition to only being suitable until the baby is 20 lbs (unlike most seats, which are 22lbs), the maximum height on this one is 66 cm (again, unlike most seats, which can hold a 74 cm baby). Our son may be a little tall (72 cm at 5 months), but having a seat that limits you to 64 cm means that you'll be buying a new seat that much sooner.

I ordered one as well. I like that it can output to tv. Haven't received it yet.
My friend got one also, but I don't want to bother him too much about the quality, they just had their kid.

We got our Graco Quattro Tour travel system when it was on sale at BrU for $300.00. It's the larger one: stroller goes up to 50lbs capacity & carseat goes up to 30lbs capacity or 32" tall (the Safeseat, not the Snugride). We wanted something that would get us through the first year or more.

Got this last week. Tried it briefly. Works well enough. The volume when plugged into the TV is pretty faint. The handset is almost louder. The image quality is fairly good, surprisingly. Haven't roamed around the house yet.

Do any of you know if you can pick up the crib to avoid the expensive shipping fee?

I didn't buy it but I did look at it. Its very nice, we really considered it but we ended up going with the Uppababy Vista. Very comparable but $100 more. The main differences in my opinion are air tires vs "air bladder" (essentially light foam), no rear axle and slightly higher seating position.

note that the City Elite with Enzo is considerably more affordable ;)
In regards to the review...
I'd recommend it...not very plasticy and takes only half the space on my outback. Easily collaspable and the adapter for the Perego Stroller is much cheaper than the bugaboo.
Back in Aug we narrowed it down to City Elite, Bugaboo Frog, Rockstar, or the Peg Perego Uno
Frog...too expensive
Uno...too much plastic
Rockstar...no Car seat adaptor at the time
...City Elite, for $450...it was an easy decision. Our price range, aluminum frame, car adaptor for $40, carriage was an option which we didnt need cause of the car seat.
Negatives?
1. no break system...lol we use our feet to stop...it's not like a bike...
2. stroller wheel lock is hard to disengage...wierd design
3. there is only one area on the frame that you can attach the cup holder...sometimes inconvenient when you have it folded. But we got it to work.
BUt other than that...I would recommend the CIty Elite

We have been looking pretty seriously at the Uppababy Vista... how are you liking it? It definitely seems similar to the City Elite...

Honestly haven't really used it. We bought it early, baby's not due yet. Everything looks good. There's no rear axle to kick if you have a long stride. Handle telescopes instead of bends. A good combination if you're tall.
Comes with rain shield and bug net (they call it a sun screen). Pram has a reversible pad with cooling net-like material or warm fleece. Definitely better than Rockstar but I would say marginally better than City Elite if you're ok with the wheels. The wheels are don't have a tube inside instead it harder like a foam but still rubber lined. Their pitch is that they don't go flat, no need to pump and is puncture proof. I'd say they're pretty hard but there is suspension in the frame. The seat can be rear facing but the pram is not.
I think its worth the difference, though small. My wife likes the colours better, we got the popular lime green and black.

I went to the Mississauga location about 2 months ago and was very disappointed. The place is quite small and lack of variety. I'm looking forward to the Samko Sping sale.

Need some help from those of you with newborns -- mine was almost 12 years ago & lots of new products have been introduced since then!!!
Invited to a friend's baby shower & trying to think what to buy her & WHERE! Older mom, first baby, large "formal" shower. I'm sure her "immediate" family will buy the necessary large-ticket items like stroller, crib, etc. -- these are out of my budget anyways! Plus, it has to be generic since the sex of the baby is unkown. And, want to buy it somewhere with a liberal "lengthier" return policy - ie, Toys 'R Us, The Bay, Ikea, Sears (any others?) - I'm sure running around to do returns right after the baby's born will not be tops on her list! Geez, I wish she had registered somewhere!
Two of the best things we got when my son was born were the exersaucer and a lightweight "carseat" type thingy that rocked, had adjustable positions & handle so baby could be carried anywhere/everywhere, even into the bathrool while taking a shower! Plus we used to take it everywhere with us to use as a "high chair" for feeding when visiting others. But they stopped making this years ago! The other thing was a "sleeping teddy" that made the sound of the heartbeat - what the baby hears in utero. I swear it was what avoided any colic - but, I don't even know if they make these anymore - not sure what the popluar "baby shopping" stores are these days!
Another idea was to pool with a friend & get a larger item, not necessarily for baby; ie, some sort of toybox or small storage bench -- need somewhere to put away all those little toys! So what if it won't be used for a few years.
What was the absolute BEST thing YOU got for your newborn that you could recommend -- around the $50 range and WHERE would you recommend buying it for a lengthier return? Thanks!

Thank you,
We just ordered one with carriage. Beats Bugaboo by $400.

I picked up a City Elite (black stroller and green pram) not too long ago. It was last year's model. Service was excellent and he took the time give my wife and I a quick demonstration of the stroller.
