Hey Guys,

I'm wondering if you have any tips on this issue.

For the past week that i've been driving my car, it's been hesitating trying to shift gears while accelarting..to the point where it shakes.

I have no idea what the issue is. I've put Carb and Fuel Injector cleaners in, used premium gas.

Other than that, the car is great. When coasting at one speed it's fine and keeps up pace.

Any advice would be great. If its a repair job, how much would it cost?

Thanks!

It might be symptomatic of a transmission failure, the cause could be anything. Transmissions are pretty expensive to repair and the problem not that easy to diagnose because you have to lower the tranny and disassemble it.

I had two transmission related problems before. One on my ES300 and the other on our Caravan. The ES300 one just went without any warning. On the Caravan you could feel hesitation when you accelerate. The revs would go up but you can feel no acceleration.

I got a used tranny from Japan installed on the ES300 for $1800. The Caravan required a rebuilt tranny for $900.

A lot of dough.

yeah for me.. when i get it to rev.. you can feel the acceleration go ..which is why im not suspicious of the transmission..it's only when i slowly accelerate or not pushing my car that i get the hesitation..

i have a feeling something's getting choked somewhere.. i never had issues with the transmission and only recently had the transmission fluid changed.

the car has had a good 160k done on it (i've put on 40 since i bought it 2 years ago).

What motor is in this? Sounds a bit like spark to me...

98 Intrigues only came with the 3800 Series II, the 3.5L came out mid 99.

Quick thing to try, disconnect/reconnect your battery to reset the engine's computer to see if "relearning" will help with any of the symptoms.

yup, i have the 3800 Series II 3.8litre...

I'll try and disconnect/reconnect the battery and see if that'll fix it..

lately i've been driving in 3rd gear (well the transmission in 3) and it's been "ok" and not as bad as i've had it in D.

With my 2001 I've had problems where going 110 - 120 Km/h results in the RPMs being way to high since it doesn't shift or something.... however this has been an intermittant problem and taking it in resluted in nothing being found...

But it hasn't happend in awhile.
