What needs to be done in a Tune Up??

Hello, I have a 2000 Ford Focus...

I need a tune up on this vehicle. I had already replace the spark plugs and fuel filter, what else needs to be done?

Ford charges me $200cad for it, what do they do exactly that cost so much? and is there anything I can't do by myself?

Depends on the mileage of the vehicle - don't forget air filter though.

Why not just follow your service manual?

If the dealer says you need service A done, go in your service manual and see what Service A entails and do it yourself.

The words 'Tune up' are mostly a misnomer nowadays, most cars don't need new plugs and fuel flter till 160k km or thereabouts, maybe that's where your mileage is?

The main thing to focus on with new cars is regular fluid changes, oil, coolant, tranny, etc, as well as air and cabin filters, if applicable.

I agree about checking your manual. Often, these service packages they sell include things like 'inspections' and checking of things, which probably doesn't even get done, in most shops. Do things yourself, and if you can't, know what needs doing and pay someone to do it, but double check their work, where possible.

They will check your car bumper to bumper to see if any additional repair can be recommended to you.

yep and trying to rip people off in the meanwhile with wacky charges and un-needed repairs. >:(

Depends on the car, and if they use distributors, etc. Replaceable parts are typically plugs, fuel and air filter. Check the wires at about 160,000kms, replace antifreeze 24/50000kms for green, and 5y/240,000km for pink.

The dealer may want to do a fuel injector clean?

I'm of the mind that if its working, leave it alone. I've seen lots of cars with lots of kms on them, where the essentially all the owner did was changed oil. GM cars too. :D

Tranny fluid change - if 5spd use GM Syncromesh , doesnt matter what car you have. Its the best stuff!!

Rad Fluid change
Airfilter
Check air pressure
Lube door hinges
Rotor and Cap -> Distributer
Plugs
plug wires
PVC valve.

Ford Focus= check if all recalls were done.
