I am looking for a DVD recorder (*not* a DVD-RW drive fro my PC) for my home theatre setup. I am currently using a cheap-o DVD player and want to replace it with something better quality.

I've heard the picture quality of the Lite-On recorders that Wal-Mart/Costco/etc carry isn't that great.

What else is there from the other brands that is say less than $200?

For less than $200, you can (usually) only get a no-name brand recorder. So for your price range, a Lite-On is actually a good deal. Many large computer OEMs sell "rebranded" lite-on drives, including Sony.

On the other hand, for only $229 (on sale) at Future Shop, you can buy a samsung DVD-R120. It has some very nice reviews.

I didn't realize the Lite-On recorder was that much cheaper than the rest.

I now see the prices are between $200 and $300 for a name brand.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the Samsung.
