If anyone is interested in older/antique furniture, the Furniture Bank is having a sale. It's been on for a few weeks now but when I dropped by last weekend, there weren't many people there so I'm guessing it's not well known.
Anyway, they're a volunteer organization helping the needy and when i dropped by, they had lots of old desks/tables/chairs/etc. that looked quite nice and made of solid wood. The selection was somewhere in the neighbourhood of 12 desks, 10 tables, 30 chairs and oh yeah, organs (the musical kind ;)).
You can negotiate the price quite a bit but keep in mind it's run by volunteers and they help the needy so it wouldn't hurt to pay a few bucks more. I wasn't in the market for any of the large furniture so I didn't negotiate for them but I overheard a desk priced at $500 going for about $100.
BTW, this is in Toronto.
