Don't think this has been posted yet, if it has, a search didn't come up with it.
Costco has dropped the price again on the Daytek 32" LCD to $1199
http://www.costco.ca/en-CA/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10285568&whse=&topnav=&cat=3316&hierPath=79*3316*
At the rate the prices are dropping, we might see an affordable 32" for around a grand pretty soon

I wouldn't be surprised if this unit fails just after its warranty period is over... Having sold tons of "Daytek" branded products they are built just like that... they start with a product that is average or below average, and pack it with crappy components, thus they can usually deliver something that is cheap, works while under warranty, and usually dies somewhere after its over... Never been impressed with a daytek product...
Again YMMV but those are my two bits...

Future Shop had a Prima 32 inch model on sale for $999 last week in Quebec only (I think). I believe the web code at FS is 10060745. When I tried to get the specs in Google, the only item I could find with exactly the same product number was the Daytek (LC32K16) which looked very similar to the Prima.
So $999 is in the cards.

To quote your line above "Costco wont do nothing", you are correct! Gotta love double-negavitves!
This means that Costco WILL take care of the customer if they have an issue. It's no secret that the return policy is the best in the industry, if it *does* fail outside of the 1-year warranty, I doubt that any Costco will turn someone away.

This is an excellent TV folks. I have this as my main TV and the smaller size doesn't bother me due to the fact that it's so sharp and the colour is perfect (after some mods of course)

Exactly. Just about all electronics and TV's are made in China anyway. Whats the difference?
Some Cameras are still made in Japan however.

Yes but if you read what I said, I was saying that Daytek Quality is lower than average, hence, they know how to build something to last for the warranty period and die shortly after.. so if you want something to last, this is not the brand of choice...

So much hatred in this thread... We all know Daytek's didn't make the best monitors back in the day, but this particular LCD-TV is pretty good. I've been using it for the last couple months and I like it like the others in the previous thread. If you haven't tried it, don't knock it.

I have this TV hooked up with a bell 6100 via DVI and the PQ is amazing.
I have also hooked it up to my ATI video card via DVI - equally impressive!
I highly recommend this TV at 1199 - plus it is NOT made in China.

The price is good and the TV from what I've seen is decent but I think this is more of a bedroom TV. Personally I prefer bigger brand names, and as such I am holding out for something better.

I purchased the tv 2 weeks ago at costco for $1299 in burlington - they had three left and 75 or so on backorder. This is great another hun off.
Anyways, this is an HDTV does 720p and 1080i and it looks great! The other LCD panels I've seen in this price range are not HDTV capable ie: MAG in future shop.
I did see the ACER in staples it looks really nice with the black frame, though it's very comparable, perhaps even the same as the Daytek when it comes to the panel itself. The speaker configuration on the ACER is in a verticle positional with one removable speaker on each side. On the Daytek, the speaker is integrated and is located on the across bottom. BTW, I just saw the ACER at one of the Staples in Mississauga (Dundas and Winston)...
For my use, I'm very satisfied with the Daytek -- since the real HT is in the basement.

I bought the viewsonic 27" for $850, because I believed Viewsonic to have a good reputation.
Anyway, brought it home, and there was a bright red "dead" pixel in the central viewing area. I was considering getting the 32" Viewsonic, but it would be a pain waiting 7-10 business days for it, and paying for shipping, so I took the 27" back and got another. Got home, and this time, there was a blob in the lower left corner. My brother (who is an audiophile, the stuff he buys is in the thousands) instantly told my it's dust between the lcd panel and the lightsource. Nothing can be done about it.
So back I go to Costco, and this time, I decided to stay away from Viewsonic completely.
I was a little leary about the Daytek name, but as someone already mentioned, these LCD panels are made by only a handful of manufacturers, and bought by everybody else.
Anyway, bought it, brought it home, and I'm very happy with the purchase.
The picture quality is great.
There is actually more real estate than the 27" (I don't just mean size of the LCD, the viewsonic was 1280x760 and the Daytek is 1366x760, which is actually noticeable when setting up your video devices)
In retrospect, I'm glad viewsonic sucked with the 2 27" lcd's I got, as I wouldn't have had the chance to see what a great tv the Daytek really is.

I too bought the 27" viewsonic at COSTCO when they were $999.99.
When I got it home, hooked it up, and viewed it... I saw a few dead pixels. Packed it up exchanged it for another, got it home and saw more DEAD pixels.
2 outta 2. I wasn't going to buy a third.
I have been waiting to buy a LCD screen but I am having problems finding a WALL MOUNT for a 32" TV.
Were there any BURNT PIXELS or STUCK PIXELS on the 32" DAYTEK?
Where can I find a cheap WALL MOUNT for this TV?
Thanks :)

I've been mulling over the 32" Viewsonic (http://www.costco.ca/en-CA/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10287552&whse=&topnav=&cat=3316&hierPath=79*3316*) that is $150 off right now on Costco.ca.
Maybe I should wait until Boxing Day? The price trend on 32-inchers is dropping fast.

My wife's co-worker's spouse works at the Ancaster Costco and she told me about a person who returned a television 10 years later (with receipt) and said he wasn't happy with it anymore. They gave him a full refund as per their policy. If he didn't have a receipt, he'd get the last selling price which would be zero on the computer system.
For $50 more (plus $30 shipping) you could get the Viewsonic 32" LCD, wouldn't this make more sense?

I returned a 20" Ld to costco 6 moths after, without a receipt (but in the original box and packing) and got a full refund.
I too am looking for a mount for the daytek. I've heard that daytek itself sells a wall mount for it, and I think most wall mounts for larger LCD tv's (ie Sanus) will work.

I haven't seen this model in the store and the coupon is handed out when you LEAVE the store (intending to direct you to shop on the website.)
I believe their stock is on a consignment from the manufacturer.
It depends on the manufacturer. A friend of mine had to close his business because of Costco forcing him to "buy-back" all of his unsold items last year. He lost lots of money and couldn't recover.

LAME,
I love it when people spit out this crap when they do not actually own the item. Sure your old 14" Daytek CRT crapped out, I owned one as well for about 8 yrs it never had an issue. Electronics can crap out period does not matter who they are made by. Yes certain manyucfactures mail fail more often then others as well.
I personally bought this unit, it is HDCP compliant and the set flat out rox. It was too small for me so I sold it to a buddy and he loves it. 8ms and HD ready.
At this price point there is nothing that can touch it. To boot you have the best return policy behind you with Costco shoud you need it.
It you are looking for a very good HD LCD do not look past this set at 1199. gaming on it at 13xxx by 7xx is insane.
VS the Acer mentioned above at Stooples I would take the Daytek by far just for the retun policy. If the set puked on you 3 yrs down the road just take it back for a full refund, where else will you get that??

The clerk was totally making that up. The only two things that are written:
a)that sign that is on the wall that explains the 'Double Guarantee" about the membership and the products.
b)the six-month return policy on computer systems (ie. CPU w/monitor & laptops)
Make sure you go back and speak to a manager about this. They should take care of you. Then go tell the clerk to stop making up phony policies.

This is slightly off-topic, but if you're looking for LCD wall mounts, I had good luck with Omni mounts that I got from an e-bay store ELDIRECT. I won the auction for $15US, and picked it up for another $5 in handling fees. They're in Concord, so pickup is great for those in GTA. I got this mount for my kid's 37" monitor.

I bought this tv last week and I used both 3 and 4 (tested both) for my 360 and they work just fine with component video.
Although I'm on my 3rd tv because of dead pixels. The first had a yellow dead pixel in the middle of the screen, 2nd had about 18 dead pixels (we actually opened it in store) and i'm on my 3rd right now, 2 dead white at the very bottom, i'm sticking with this one because I don't notice them unless I am looking for them. Its going back for good if any more show up.

etam, there are three possible reasons you're getting purple/grey screen on the component inputs for 3 and 4, The first possibility is that you haven't actually told the TV to use component for those ports. Go to the setup submenu of the main menu and select "Video 3/4 Input", make sure "Component" is selected for those inputs. The second possible solution is that your dvd player isn't actually setup for output to component, some players require you specifically select component output. AND the third possible solution is that you somehow screwed up the cable order
If none of those work perhaps one of your cables is fubar'd. Other than that, I haven't a clue.

So begs the question, for $50 more, would you get the Viewsonic one at Costco.ca (which is normally $200 more than the Daytek)?

My viewsonic 27" from costco has a problem with the speakers. The speakers make a hissing noise that is very noticable, especially at night when the volume is low. Im going to take it back and pick up the Daytek 32". Anyone have any speaker problems with the Daytek?

I was going to pick up the Digimate. I think it's a really attractive looking set. However, in my research I found that the Digimate accepted 720p and 1080i but only displayed 720p. Both are fine if that's how the signal is sent but not if it needs to be converted.
Is this true and is the daytek the same?

I just bought the 32" daytek. Brought it home, hooked it up. There are like 3 white blotches on the screen, and about 4-6 very noticable stuck/dead pixels. The right speaker also has a rattling sound, it gets louder as the sound it turned up.
Nothing but problems with this one. Anyone else have any similar experiences or did I just get a lemon?

My first one I brought home had a yellow stuck pixel right in the middle of the screen, took it back... I got them to open one in store (their last one on the floor) and hook it up, it had about 18 dead pixels. I went to another costco and they opened another for me, and it didnt have any dead pixels.. brought it home, found two, but they are hardly noticeable at all since they are at the very bottom.. im keeping this one probably.. but it seems to be a problem with dayteks so far.. so I would keep taking it back until satisfied.. then again, i bought the samsung at futureshop for $1499 on boxing day to see if it was any better than the daytek and it had a black stuck pixel.. I might have the worst luck, but the samsung is going back and im going to keep my daytek.

Yup, almost all HDTV's display in 720p, but accept both 720p and 1080 signals. A real 1080 display would cost too much money right now...but the resukts over 720p are barely noticeable.

How does it work as a PC monitor? Is the native resolution the same as your friends video card or did he have to tweak it? Is it easy to read the text. I've read some reviews of people using LCD TVs as monitors and some complain that small text is not too clear. Any info, tips or ideas in general much appreciated.

How do you think the brand new 40" Prima LCD model (not the old one, this has 1000:1 contrast) would fair against this quality wise? How about FS 37" Digimate LCD for $1499?

I strongly am against anyone buying a Prima after the piece of garbage tv I bought from them. I bought a 34" Prima Widescreen HDTV and it was completely blurry on all sides, to fix the problem I had to turn the contrast to 0, which made every thing too dark. When I turned up brightness, it made everything grey. I thought it just might be mine, so I went back to the store and tried the display model.. did the exact same thing.. what a hunk of junk, needless to say it went back to the store and I bought the daytek in this thread and I am satisfied except for the couple of dead pixels.
And on boxing day I was looking at the prima 40" plasma and it was blurry again compared to the other tvs on display... maybe im just unlucky.. but I will never buy a prima again.
DO NOT BUY PRIMA!!!

Just went back to costco to exchange the defective 32" daytek for a new one. Brought the new one home, hooked it up and boom, dead pixels everywhere. I cant count them all there are so many I estimate 30-50 dead and stuck pixels. Very disappointed, guess im gonna have to spend more money to get a good quality lcd tv.

I have no dead pixels on mine but the thing seems to hang once in a while and I have to reset it with the on off switch located at the back. Happens like once every few weeks. Anyone else have this problem? Didn't want to return and end up with a panel with dead pixels so decided to just keep it since it's more of an annoyance to flip the on off switch then anything.

I understand it. But technically there is no relation between a LCD display that has a few dead/stuck pixels and a bad LCD product later. As far as I know, it's not going to appear more because of the first few ones. Over time there may be a couple more but that's all normal given the million numbers of them.

I advised him to keep it because it appears that he got a good one, the price/size ratio is good and he is well protected with Costco return policy (as long as not so many abuse it)

I thought I'd throw in my experience. Bought the 32" Daytek from Costco Markham. Worked great without dead pixels for a week, and then one morning it just died without warning. I can hear the audio but the screen was didn't turn on. Returned it, but they didn't have stock for exchange. So I just picked up the Viewsonic 27".
Great price, but I gotta admit, my confidence is shaken (although that 40" is mighty tempting).

I bought it too. I posted the following text on the Akai DLP thread:
I had originally bought the Viewsonic N2750w back in July, but yesterday I went to return it, because I wanted something bigger for my living room. I hooked up the Daytek 32-incher this morning, and I'm VERY impressed. It beats the Viewsonic hands down in overall picture quality, both in SD and HD, and it looks great as a computer monitor as well.
My favorite thing about it, is that, since I do use it as a monitor. On widescreen it displays 1280x768, but I can also use it native res at 1024x768 with no stretch, so, it essentially becomes 4:3 when I play games that only support 4:3, and look bad on widescreen. No other LCD that I've tried can do this, without the picture appearing fuzzy and distorted. Five stars just for that function alone!
The DLP TV's didn't really float my boat since the viewing angles kinda suck, so, I've stuck with LCD and I haven't been disappointed.

I have the 32" Daytek. It beats the pants off anything in it's price range. Don't let the Daytek name fool ya. It's a samsung panel in that TV, so the image is excellent. Couple that with Costco's excellent return policy and you don't even need the warranty.
Daytek = Low Price because of no advcertising, and fewer distribution channels than a Samsung, which is exactly what it is.

After reading this whole thread I've come to the conclusion that Daytek is not worth the hassle what with all the dead pixels and returning the item for a new one. If this company was any good, they wouldn't ship TV's with dead pixels hoping people will keep them anyways. It's a cheap tactic and it gives the impression that they produce crap.
I cannot figure out why anyone would bring back a THIRD defective product and ask for another one to bring home. I'de quit after two and move on to another brand. Some people are blinded by the fact they're saving money and accept defective products just because they saved a buck or two. Weird.

I've had the same hassle with name brand TVs as well. Sony and Panny both. Most panel manufacturers do not consider a dead pixel to constitute a defective screen. Usually a certain threshold of dead/stuck pixels has be to reached before they will junk the panel.
The same goes for LCD monitors. If you read the fine print, most manufacturers will only accept an RMA on an LCD only if you have more dead pixels than their "threshold". Just one or two dead pixels and you're screwed.
That's what makes Costco and many other big box stores a good place to shop at for these items, since their store policy is "satisfaction guaranteed," despite what the manufacturer would consider a defective product. The big stores have enough buying power to force the manufacturer into accepting their returns. You won't get the same benefits from a smaller store.

Im on my 3rd daytek, well technically two at home, and one in store that I got them to open. But I also bought a samsung lcd and when I brought it home, it had a dead white pixel as well. I took it back to futureshop and they said they are putting it back on the floor because its under the threshold of 7!! Yes 7.. samsung will not take it back without that many stuck/dead pixels.
My current daytek has 2 stuck pixels right now and has been that way since before boxing day when I bought it, but you cannot see them unless you are looking, its not bright in any way . If more start to show up, its going back to costco.
And daytek is an excellent tv.. I use it for my xbox 360 and HD TV. No complaints about it.
