Hi there,

I'm looking for recommended CANADIAN companies to register a domain name with - any suggestions are welcome!

Also, I'd like help with setting up a simple site, basic info tabs and possibly with one webform to complete. Can anyone help recommend cheap/free software to do that with (highly user friendly software!)? I'd like the site to look modern and well-designed - not cheap and early 90s homemade! :D

Thanks for help on both points!

Namespro.ca

They seem pretty good for me no problems and were one of the cheapest when i registered mine in August 04

Re the website find one you like and copy the source and then change it to suit you. If you cannot do it yourself put an add on a board here and maybe someone will do it for a reasonable fee.

They are cheap, but they are definitely not the cheapest. They charge $12.88CDN/year, several other places charge under $10CDN/year. If you are looking for the absolutely best deal on .ca hosting, look around!

My only complaint about these guys is that they don't give you full control over advanced DNS settings. For example, you can change your primary/secondary DNS for free, but they won't let u create/modify A, CNAME, MX records unless you pay an extra $10/year for their DNS hosting package. Even if u don't need DNS hosting with them, you still need to pay extra if u want to make these sort of changes.

Most other registrars will usually give clients full control over their DNS settings for free, not so with namespro. If full DNS control is important to you, might wanna consider another company. Perhaps netfirms.ca or domainsatcost.ca?

In terms of software, i'd recommend macromedia dreamweaver and fireworks.

Yea they look not bad. I will keep them in mind when I renew. I don't even use my .ca site just registered it to get mysurname.ca before someone else did .com was taken.

I would urge everyone to see if their surname is available and grab it if it is. You can always use it for the whole families email IE: firstname @ surname.ca

Thanks folks! Lots of helpful advice!

Any further suggestions for software that allows you to set-up a website really easily? Or a hosting company that provides that service/software cheaply?

Thanks.
