This is stupid. I went to pmall on saturday, had a place check out my ps2, they said it would cost $135 to fix it. He said the mother board was busted.
My problem is this: The playstation doesnt boot up games. (its modded)
Now a new playstation would cost around $160 + taxes. Then after modding it, it would be a little over 200.
I'm pretty pissed off with this PS2. I'd like to keep it but I also want to get rid of it.
Does anyone know any stores in the GTA or waterloo, that could fix my PS2 cheaper than 135?

You'll find with many electronic devices these days that it's more reasonable to just throw the old device away and buy new rather than repair.
I'd say sell it off broken for what you can get and just buy a new PS2.

Drive down to The Sony Store Factory Outlet (http://www.canadaoneoutlets.com/stores_list.asp) in Niagara Falls to see if they still have the reconditioned PS2. I got the fat version back in September for $140.

I would buy a new one, but then i would have to get it modded as well.
Let's say a new slim PS2 costs 159.99

with tax thats 183.99
Then to mod it is another $75

Keep in mind DJXP is mad busy, so i might not even be lucky enough to get my ps2 to be modded by him.
total cost is $259.
How much do broken ps2's go for?

Just dump it, buy a 360 for now, and wait for a ps3 ... it'll be backward compatible.

I see your point. How long do you think it will take for xbox 360 prices to go down?

After Christmas.
Try more likely when PS3 is launched... MS is taking a loss on the console, and there won't be any major competitor until Sony gets to market.
I'd say check classifieds and B/S/T forums and buy a used PS2.

Have you tried to change the mod chip though? My friend had similar problem and it turned out it was the chip.

this happened to my ps2 v9 too. One day it stopped working. All i get was browser screen, wouldnt boot anything. I asked around and people told me it was either the la chip or the lazer. So i decided to just buy a used one. Hope everything goes well for you.

I cant change the mod chip because that would cost some money, and it might not even fix the problem.
I need someone who knows ps2's to look at it.
