View Full Version : No...My Gigabyte 8KNXP exploded. Sorry no pics.
bug

I was powering on my trusty Gigabyte 8KNXP the other day, when it went POP and emitted a puff of choking smoke :-0 Luckily none of the other parts in the system were affected. It appears a circuit blew on the bottom back side of the board near a capacitor. I submitted an RMA request to Gigabyte and hopefully it will be accepted. The burnt spot wouldn't show up in a pic, or I would've posted a few.
Here are a list of what was in it:
Thermaltake Kandalf tower
Thermaltake 420 watt P/S
P4 Northwood 3400 cpu
2x512 Corsair ddr400 pro with LEDS
BFG 6600GT AGP
1 x WD 160gig
2 x WD 80gig in Raid O
BenQ DW822A dvd burner
Pioneer 16x dvdrom

Could it be your PSU?

I don't think so, its relatively new. If they do RMA it, I will use another P/S just to be on the safe side. I was having some minor problems with the board before this happened though.

is it because you connected the USB jumpers to the firewire port?

i had a gigabyte motherboard that blew up on me as well, all the other parts were fine but the motherboard never powered on after that. Gigabyte is garbage, i suggest when you get the RMA back, sell it and upgrade to an Asus.

Nope, I've built quite a few computers and I'd like to think I can tell the difference between usb and firewire

Can you use paint or something and draw a picture of what it looked like?

have you tested other components to make sure that they didn't get damaged?
