huh? like 1+1 always = 2? Nobody asks why.
Now think about this before you buy. As soon as you go telling people you know that you have a webcam, what are they gonna think NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY?
hehe.

Well I started using them for setting up virtual classrooms in school. So the teacher could be in once city and then the students all over. That was about 5-6 years ago when it really first started. So when I think webcam I think that, not the other.
Oh well, guess we will never get past that

I love using mine to talk with my parents in Red Deer. Sure beats paying 10 cents a minute for long distance.

I use ours to talk to our freinds in the states and my brother-in-law in Toronto. Not only is it cheaper, but the video camera aspect makes it even seem the person isnt so far away.

i have a webcam, i've never thought of it as cybersex, i use it frequently with friends, especially those id ont' see that often.
i thout most webcams auto detect on WinXP and dont' need any drivers. my webcam did, i jus plugged it in and opened it and it was fine, i haven't tried with win2k though, but i was always under the impression win2k and lower needs drivers for all usb devices.

As for webcam chatting.. I never really saw the appeal of it until I actually used it a few times. When you see someone's reaction it is kind of neat so you can see if they get your "joke" or whatever.

webcams = cybersex or other colourful exchanges.... because... people are people...
I actually was chatting with someone on MSN who I met online - I had known the person for a year or two and we were in different cities, so if anything we were just friends (it was a female) - although our intial contact was flirty in nature, nothing came of it due to geography and both of us getting in to relationships shortly after we met online.
Well... we hadn't chatted in months at one point and she messages me to chat (we weren't even close friends - different cities and all)... and she tries to get me to webcam with her. I had a cheap webcam, but it wasn't set up... and I didn't really want to bother... so I convinced her to turn hers on so I could see her at least...
She did...
Well... after her talking to me while I type back for a while... and essentially the most boring, awkward webcaming possible (me typing, her talking, the picture being crap quality, sound break-ups, some jerky video, etc...)... I suggest we should just go back to typing (so I don't have to ask her to repeat things, etc... and the cam didn't add much to things once I had "seen" her again).
Well... her response to this is to lift her shirt and show me her breasts....
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... ok... using the webcam was better after all! LOL (the quality sucked unfortunately... but it was good enough quality to see what was being shown!)
Ahhhhhh... the things I got to see that night... and several others... memories! :D
I can't help but think of the fun stuff now when it comes to webcams... my personal experience was that it was boring and a headache to use... unless...... things were spiced up...

Found a cool utility this weekend called Timershot. Can set it up that your webcam takes snapshots. Can be used for security or to see if someone is using your machine.
Your PC has to be running of course for it to work,. Works good on my laptop as it has a bulit in webcam.

your supposed to hit PRINT SCREEN when that sorta thing happens!!
anyhoo,
well yea i dont think webcams need to be related to something nasty.....i mean i talk to my g/f using webcam, but we dont use the audio feature on msn cause its never really smooth.....we just type, and its nice to be able to see the other person. we're in different cities because of university, so its nice to see her from time to time......webcams are great. but if you dont really have anyone to use it with, i think tis pointless...
i mean how many guys really talk on webcam with other guys??
even some of my friends who are girls, i feel awkward asking them to put me on webcam, cause i dont want them to think that i just want to stare at them or whatever.....so i only really use it with my g/f.....but its worth the money i'd say if you have a purpose for it

If you are webcamming, make sure you get a webcam with a good lens like a QUickcam Pro 4000 from Logitech. Man, what a difference from my old Labtec cam. THe quality is amazing and everyone I cam with tells me that also. You can get one for like $80 OEM. Pricier than most, but well worth it!
