Maybe its photoshopped frame by frame into the video.

SquealADeal
Nov 18th, 2005, 12:38 AM
There are some people who really go all out with their Christmas lights. I lived in Newmarket and a ton of people would sign up for that Noma challenge for the best house back when they had that.

The reflections off the lights on the windows illuminates the top part and the gutters... If it is a frame-by-frame photoshop, which I don't think it is, its a pretty darn good one, so either way this is one of the coolest video's I've seen in a while

Man, I wonder how long he spent on making that display.

Nov 18th, 2005, 04:57 AM
I was thinking that it might be some kind of 'video editing' going on...that's pretty fast switching control, (unless its normal video sped up). And I'm wondering how they managed to hang the lights where there are 2 different colors on the same plane..unless tri-color LEDs were being used.

I showed this to my friend and he says that a setup like this isn't that difficult. The timing of the lights is all software driven.

that looks good with the music especially. but, i think..its a good design to be in a club or something.

Nov 18th, 2005, 09:46 PM
I think there's two ways he could have done it. I don't know what exactly they're called but there's a lightswitch board you can hook up to a computer or laptop which controls lights. You can sometimes do it with a keyboard/synth to manually sync it up to music.

And the second way which is probably the way he did it -- film his lights in various sequences and edit the film together with FinalCut or Adobe Premiere to synch up with the music. Both ways are very time consuming though so in any case he deserves a pat on the back.

I will take a picture of my neighbours setup when he has it done in a couple of weeks. The guy is a retired electrician so he has all day to wire this stuff. By the time he is done my room is lit up like Kramer's with a Kenny Rogers Roasters next door. All I can see is non stop red and green lights being beamed right through my window.

Of course he does light setups year round too, for every event. He has Christmas, New Year's, Easter, Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, and Halloween, all differently and new each year.

The township loves the guy, he is well known by them. Everyone takes their kids there on Halloween because of his setups, and he has won the township contest for most beautiful garden or some junk like three years in a row. Doubtful they would do anything, but I will snap some photos on Friday night and upload them here. It is almost funny aside from the brightness of it all.

There's a guy here in Burlington (Spruce Ave., for any locals) who continues to grow his display every year. He works for an electrical contracting firm, so the firm actually sends out a couple of workers to help him set it up, and I think he even takes a couple of weeks vacation to build it.

Spruce runs east/west, about half-way between Lakeshore and New Street. I can't remember the exact location of the guy's house, but it is definitely west of Appleby and east of Guelph Line. I just can't remember whether it is east or west of Walker's Line.

What a joy it must be to live on the same street as these nutjobs.

I drove past that guy in Burlington a few years ago.
People couldn't get out of their driveways, there was so much traffic.

You know what overkills Christmas lights?

When its November and people have their lights on already.
Sorry, but thats just sad.

Sorry, but thats just sad.

My neighbour starts to put up his lights as soon as the one event passes, so as soon as Halloween went by he started to throw up his Christmas lights, they have been running for a few weeks now, so far this year his house has been suprisingly basic for lighting though. I suspect he has some sort of major lighting planned at some point soon....

I drove by the place on Spruce a few years back, and yes, the traffic there is a nightmare.

As for the original video, it turns out to be true. Our good friends at snopes.com have got the info.:

The music is broadcast over a low-power radio frequency.

This guy's house was just featured on Global News... The owner is a computer engineer from Ohio... He uses 25,000 lights, it costs him $150 per month to run, and he broadcasts the synchronized music by radio, so as you are diving by you can tune in and take a look.
