I'm just about to start a new job in an accounting firm and I need to find me some good cheap clothes. Can anyone suggest some stores for me to visit that are not too expensive for this. I'm looking for business caual type of things, and maybe even a suit or two... but mostly just dress pants and nice tops/sweaters. Thanks for the help.

The Bay usually has some nice inexpensive sweaters - you just need to catch the sale when it is on the ones you like.

Winners
Moores
those, tip top, and the bay should be able to do the job.

Banana's a bit expensive aren't they? I'd like to be buying pants for less than $80 bucks or so. And tops for less than about $50 or so, if possible. Was also thinking about visiting some of the warehouses on Orfice road. Any good ones there?

Vaughan Mills outlets. You're bound to find some reasonably priced if 'older' fashions there.

If you can swing it - get a black blazer as a ' must have ' garment
You can dress it up - dress casual ..... or down - with jeans...and it goes with virtually every colour pant. Opt for a ' serge ' cloth .....as it the most durable for blazers.
A good budget brand is made by Jack Victor ( Montreal ) - should run you around $350 - $450 maybe less if you shop around. I always look at clothes as an investment - you get what you pay for ..some stuff may cost a bit more up front but you can amortize the cost over the years of the useful life you'll get out of it versus a cheap garment - ends up being cheraper in the long run
I've also heard Tom's Place in T.O is good ( near Kensigton market ) if you're looking to spend not too much on a starter wardrobe - never been there though.

Old Navy has good prices on nice dress pants, like they even have Pin Stripped pants there now, and you can get some long sleeve plaid shirts there. Or you can step up to the next level of the GAP, and if you got even more cash go to the top tier of the company and go to BR, but I would just get pants at Old Navy for under $30.00 a pair.. Even in Whitby, ON we have a Designer Depot that sells nice stuff for good prices...

Check out international clothers. They are located in the Dufferin Mall, and I think on Orfus as well. Cheap prices for okay dress clothes. They sell shirt and tie kits for like 10 bucks sometimes.

I'm sort of in the middle of both categories here. I don't really want to spend 450 bucks on a blazer.... maybe okay for a whole suit, but even that's a bit high for my budget for a suit. But then I also dont' mind spending more than 10 bucks for a shirt and tie too. Right in the middle here. I've never heard of Tom's Place. How much are suits there. From-to?

Tom's Place is highly recommended. It's in the Kensington Market near Dundas and Spadina (Chinatown). There's a huge price range, from I would say around $200 for a suit to much higher. Those cheap suits aren't bad either since they are more than 50% off. I bought a great dark grey CK suit there for $300 in January. Plus they have every size possible. If you are working in an accounting firm, you should probably wear suits most of the time. At least match a jacket with a decent pair of pants (ie khakis) and a tie. As for shirts, pants and stuff, look for sales at Bay or just go to any Winners. Anywhere else, you're just paying retail and that's too much. Never ever go to places like Banana Republic or Club Monaco.

This is all very helpful guys. I've been visiting all of these company's websites and I've basically mapped out my day tomorrow. There's a Winners and an International Clothiers closeby Yorkdale, so I'll hit those first. Then I'll go to Yorkdale, where there's an H&M, an Old Navy, Zara, the Bay and Tip Tops. On the weekend I'll hit Tom's Place, since it's not open late during the week.
Someone mentioned Vaughan Mills. Is it worthwhile to go there? I saw that there's an international clothiers there, but is there anything else worth visiting there for my type of budget and needs? Thanks again guys.
EDIT: just to clarify. I'm in an accounting firm, but I'm a CA Student there, so I'm not an accountant, yet... I don't think they expect full suits every day. They mentioned business casual with a jacket on hand in case I'm sent out to a client.

Name brand stores (BR, CM, GAP, Zara) charge too much for clothes, unless they have a HUGE sale. But then it's usually sizes no one wants. On the other hand, those 'discount' stores like Int'l Clothiers are total crap. It may look half decent, but it feels like crap when you wear it. Don't bother if I were you. Name brands in discount stores is where you hafta go. Like Winners or Tom's Place. Problem with Winners is that you may have a hard time finding sizes, so you hafta visit multiple stores. As for more casual places like H&M and Old Navy, if you plan to work in an accounting firm and plan to get anywhere, don't even bother. They can barely make casual Fridays let alone a normal workday. If you do plan to go to all those places, just look for now and note the prices and the quality. Then decide what you can afford versus what looks/feels good for ya.

H&M's mens line is pretty good, well fitted dress shirts and suits .. only available at Yorkdale and Eaton Centre though
