Watch the video, it will blow your mind.

I'm not sure who is worse, the stupid manager who listened to what the caller said, or the ******** girl who actually let her boss strip search her, among other things. She can't possibly be that stupid to think that her boss is allowed to make her perform sex acts based on what someone over the phone says.

That woman assistant manager is a moron. Hope her fiance gets something close to the max 35 years in prison. Guy who made the phone call deserves the 16 years.

I sympathize with the girl but surely you'd think one would have more common sense than to have a strip search performed on you without actual police presence...and then the nude/sexual acts with the fiancee? Come on...I hardly think you could get in trouble for refusing to cooperate with your assistant manager's fiance.

Wow. If I were to receive such a phone call, my first response would be to laugh and explain to the caller where to go. I can see the young girl not knowing what else to do and complying, but wtf was the manager thinking?

The assistant manager only gets 2 years? She deserves to be locked up for longer than that. She's the one who initiated all the stupid acts.

True, but she had been getting slapped around by the guy before that. So she probably cooperated because she was afraid of being hurt. But yah, the manager and fiance are morons. RTFM! You are not allowed to detain or search anybody. I hope they get what they deserve.

Either, they knew what they were doing was wrong. They should be locked up.

or

They are so stupid that they are a danger to society. Might as well be locked up.

Bradley walked out in disgust, leaving Summers with no one to watch Ogborn. Then the caller made an odd request, asking Summers to call her fiancé to have him watch the girl.

Summers says she did as she was told.

"I honestly thought he was a police officer and what I was doing was the right thing," said Summers. "I thought I was doing what I was supposed to be doing."

omgosh, is she ********? She thought she was doing the right thing. This other guy was already disgusted, can;t she get a clue.

and gosh, she had to call her fiancee and get him to drive over to look at a naked girl...what's happening to this world...

What about the fiancee? As dumb as the assistant manager is (even without "the manual", the absolute reasonable limit would be to have her strip to her underwear.. for the fake reason given by the "cop", there is no justification to go any further.. ) it's the fiancee that really made this go from bad to worse.. what was he thinking??! What possible reasonable person would make her stand on a chair, nude, or bend over, or do jumping jacks, or perform a sex act on him.. it should have been very, very obvious right from the beginning (as the two other people who had the requests made of them realized..) that this was in no way legitimate.

How could anyone reasonably believe that a police officer would tell you to repeatedly spank a nude 18 year old girl who is accused of stealing? Wouldn't it enter into your mind at some point that the person at the other end of the line isn't who he says he is?

The whole thing sounds like something out of a porno movie..

Its true isn't it? I have read your other pro-cop posts. If you are saying that I am lying then just tell me. If it is a personal attack then just say so.

My words are basically true following the stance on your previous posts and I don't need you to tell me what is a bannable offence. If the mods have a problem with it they can send me a PM or respond in this thread.

This just seems like it couldn't possibly have happened... but it did!?!?!?

The man was charged with sodomy!?!? A "sex act" was performed and the video hinted as to what act that was (she was on her knees in front of the man)... but... sodomy? Surely this 18 year old girl knew that there was no way a "sex act" would be legit... or even spanking for that matter?? But if sodomy occurred... what happened in that office in a couple hours was more eventful than most people's sex lives ever get! It's just crazy!

Part of me thinks the girl should have had some common sense to put an end to it before it went too far. But, this is one of those cases where it shows how "authority figures" do have sway and influence over people - and that authority can be leveraged to extremes with some people who feel they are powerless against it. Authority figures have rules put in place to prevent them from abusing their authority, and impersonating an authority figure also is usually against the law. I'm sure there are many instances of teachers, principles, managers, etc. pressuring people under their authority to do things they wouldn't otherwise do... including sex acts. If a teenage high school student is about to be expelled and the teacher/principal offers to make it "all go away"... the teen would feel powerless but to comply and ensure they don't expelled (which could seem like the end of the world for a teen). These things happen... rarely do they go this far - especially when there isn't a leverage mechanism to really "force" the person to do the demeaning things... I think that is what makes this instance so... newsworthy? It's like the "Perfect Storm" for this type of situation... the exact right people/personality types crossed to have this ridiculous situation go completely and insanely out of control.

Just so McDs isn't singled out...

Escalating demands
Sexual abuse steps up as some are eager to obey

Some managers cried as they carried out the caller's orders. But court documents show that others performed with great zeal.

At a Burger King in Pendleton, Ind., a supervisor was so intent on finishing a search of a 15-year-old girl in December 2001 that when the girl's father arrived to pick her up from work, he had to jump over the counter to end her humiliation.

And in Dover, Del., a Burger King manager who was strip-searching an 18-year-old employee in March 2003 fought off the worker's mother and boyfriend so strenuously that state police had to be called.

Court records also show that over time, the demands in the hoax calls grew more perverse.

At a McDonald's in Hinesville, Ga., in February 2003, a 55-year-old janitor was told to put his finger in the vagina of a 19-year-old cashier, supposedly to look for contraband, according to court records. In Joplin, Mo., according to a police report, a caller in May 2004 persuaded a 16-year-old girl who was managing a Sonic restaurant to strip-search and perform oral sex on a 21-year-old male cook — and then got the cook to strip-search the manager.

David Stuart took a police academy course just so he can do this/ Make me sick.. You would think a person who is smart enough to take a police course would have enough common sense not to buy his calling card (that he used for this) at a wal mart. of all places...

Mcdonalds better set her up for life after this! especially when the managers aren't being screened properly.

Yea, that would have been the right thing to do, however this is the stance they are taking

Its Louisville lawyer, W.R. "Pat" Patterson Jr., said McDonald's employee manual clearly noted its policy against strip-searches. "The employees didn't read it," Patterson said in an interview. "That is all I can say."

How dumb can you get? That manager is so stupid. I feel bad for the girl but she should have known better than to let anyone that didn't have any authority to do so strip search you. However I guess if it was her first job and she was afraid of losing her job she'd do as she was told. But STILL no job is worth that. I think money needs to be spent on educating the public about their rights.

These incidents are disgusting. Even if it really was a police officer telling you to do those things use some common sense and realize that it would still be illegal. If a police officer told you to get in your car and go run some kids over infront of a school would you do it?

Ya no kidding. If I was the manager (ha like I would ever be working at such a dump), I would have instructed the bastard to come down and give his instructions in person. Then I would beat his ass in. If he felt, he was so hardcore on the phone and went as far as taking the police academy course, then Im sure he would have enough guts to do it face to face. Its their fault because it happened on company property and to an employee during company time. They are legally responsible for your personal safety. ie. Make sure you don't fall into the deep fryer

Not necessarily. Employees are still required to excercise "reasonable judgment" during the course of employment. They are not absolved of reponsibility during normal working hours, otherwise you'd have disgruntled workers running ppl over with delivery trucks and stock boys rubbing cantalopes all over their testicles.

Here's a good read on vicarious liability.

Why did she comply? She is lacking common sense.

Because she was new, she is female, she was under the impression that she had no choice, and because people in authority took advantage over her. The fact that this has been happening for several years now indicates that this isn't her fault, and it's faintly chauvinistic to essentially say that this was her fault because she lacks common sense.

Alright, since you people don't seem to have any imagination at all. This is how it could of went down.

The caller (police trained) befirends Mc Donald managers, and cunningly finds out if the manager is enough of a slease bag to force himself onto younger girls. Then he offers his services to the manager; "let me know when you have a noob girl on board (the kinds that volunteeres for late night shifts, has difficulty saying NO) and I will at least make her take her shirt off on camera" (on camera you can watch). Scumbag manager agrees, and maybe even got his womanfriend to at least agree to do part of the job (so that if the girl goes to the cops right away, it was a WOMAN that strip searched her, not a man). Now the phone caller could have been done by the time the mofo manager and the naked girl were alone, and the scumbag manager continued on his own with the sex acts.

Due to the length of the whole ordeal, the girl slowly became paralyzed with fear and shame, and became a puppet blindly following orders without thinking about them.

The womanfriend could of been convinced by her assistand manager boyfriend who told her lies about what the little girl said about her fat ugly appearance. Maybe she didn't expect the rape, she just wanted to embarass the girl.

This was premedited rape by the assitant manager pedophile sleazebag mofo.

Taking advantage of children is the worst crime I know, I hope he gets the full 35 years in a very "sodomy-friendly" prison.

Think about it, if a police officer was really concerned about you stealing something. They would come and do a strip search on you by themselves. They would not get another civilian involved unnecessarily. And put a finger in her vagina? Come on that is ludicrous..

Don't give yourself too much credit ;) ... Many people here could come up with a wild conspiracy story... Your story might be right, or perhaps the fiancée specifically went out to hire this guys services, or perhaps it was setup by the teen-girl to get a big settlement from McDonalds so she could be set for life, or perhaps the manager was setting her fiancée up for a split up so she could take half of his estate (if he has one and if they were common law) It could have gone down a number of ways... All speculation though.

Folks this didn't happen at just one McD's. There were dozens scammed.

That shows that it wasn't just 'one dumb manager'. Maybe not all went as far etc, but it does show that there is some defense for both the manager and the employee because the caller was obviously playing off of something that many people share and honing his skills along the way. The caller is a con-man, he gains the managers confidence somehow and then uses it to cause distress to a third party....no different than the old 'found a wallet' con, and in many ways similar to the Milgram experiment in that the manager is following orders and the harm is happening to someone else that they are not emotionally connected to.

It's very sad all the way around. I am astounded that the fiance went along with sodomy.

edit - I don't buy the conspiracy theory due to the number of cases they discovered that were widely spread across the country.

Yea, there was a good post by lazybum131 and a few others… The influence someone can have on your judgment, even to this extent is quite remarkable. I do however think that the fiancé should have questioned the legitimacy but was having too much of a ball to object.

On the expanded article it also spoke about other male managers insistent on completing the strip search on their 15 year old employees... Quite disturbing.

Think about it, if a police officer was really concerned about you stealing something. They would come and do a strip search on you by themselves. They would not get another civilian involved unnecessarily. And put a finger in her vagina? Come on that is ludicrous..

Hindsight is 20/20. You weren't that person and you weren't in her situation. Furthermore, it happened more than once. Once might indicate gullibility, but more than once indicates something more.

Steve ma man, that shows exactly why all the strip searchers were indeed part of it! I said the caller offers his services to the managers and other employees suitable for such an offer. They even spend time to "prepare" their victims by demeaning them a few days or weeks earlier.

Quit feeling sorry for her. After she sues them she will have more money then if she worked at McDs for 10 years for a bit of humiliation and a bj. Sure it was bad but its not like rape victims get anything at all.

Yes, but I could argue that we have no data on how far the other incidents went. The others probably did not get this far before they realized it was a hoax. I am not saying the girl is stupid or anything but sometime during the incident something should have set off to let her know something is wrong.

It is not everyday someone tells you to get completely naked over the phone.

I am not saying the girl is stupid or anything but sometime during the incident something should have set off to let her know something is wrong.

It is not everyday someone tells you to get completely naked over the phone.

The first report of such a call came in 1995, in Devil's Lake, N.D.; another came later that year in Fallon, Nev. The caller, usually pretending to be a police officer investigating a crime, targeted stores in small towns and rural communities -- areas where managers were more likely to be trusting.

Most were fast-food restaurants, where the male and female victims were young and inexperienced, and assistant managers were likely to be working without supervision.

At first, nobody believed store managers when they insisted after the fact that they had just done what they were told to by someone they believed to be police.

"Did the manager tell a whopper?" a newspaper headline in Fargo, N.D., asked after the manager of a Burger King there insisted that he thought it was a police officer who had told him over the phone on Jan. 20, 1999, to slap a 17-year-old employee on her naked buttocks.

"It's just not conceivable to me that there's any reasonable justification for what happened," a North Dakota state judge said as she sentenced the manager to 30 days in jail for disorderly conduct.

Restaurant owners and police often said they assumed the caller and victims were in cahoots in a bizarre scam to extract settlements from individual franchises.

But the hoaxes continued -- by the end of 2000, there were more than a dozen. By the end of 2003, there were nearly 60.

Detectives eventually would conclude the calls were the work of one man because the methods of operation were practically identical, with only slight deviations:

On Nov. 30, 2000, the caller persuaded the manager at a McDonald's in Leitchfield, Ky., to remove her own clothes in front of a customer whom the caller said was suspected of sex offenses. The caller promised that undercover officers would burst in and arrest the customer the moment he attempted to molest her, said Detective Lt. Gary Troutman of the Leitchfield Police Department.

"We asked her why she hadn't called local police, and she said she thought it was local police who had called her," Troutman said.

On May 29, 2002, a girl celebrating her 18th birthday -- in her first hour of her first day on the job at the McDonald's in Roosevelt, Iowa -- was forced to strip, jog naked and assume a series of embarrassing poses, all at the direction of a caller on the phone, according to court and news accounts.

On Jan. 26, 2003, according a police report in Davenport, Iowa, an assistant manager at an Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar conducted a degrading 90-minute search of a waitress at the behest of a caller who said he was a regional manager -- even though the man had called collect, and despite the fact the assistant manager had read a company memo warning about hoax calls just a month earlier. He later told police he'd forgotten about the memo.

On June 3, 2003, according to a city police spokesman in Juneau, Alaska, a caller to a Taco Bell there said he was working with the company to investigate drug abuse at the store, and had a manager pick out a 14-year-old customer -- and then strip her and force her to perform lewd acts.

So you're saying this is worse then say a rape? Sure, it was bad but rather then sueing McDs shouldn't she just go after the the supervisor and her bf directly? Its not like McDs called her and told her to strip, its a side note. Plus for some dumb reason she didn't do anything about it. Like if your boss came to you and told you to strip you'd be like...duh....ok.

Dozens and dozens of calls but it seemed like this case of dumb people fell for it. This is also what happens when you don't teach kids in school to think for themselfs. :P

So you're telling me that your mother and your sister agree that we shouldn't feel sorry for somebody who was sexually assaulted and humiliated for several hours just because she won a lawsuit? You'll forgive me if I don't exactly believe you - I wish I could have photographed the horrified expression on my wife's face when I repeated your post to her.

If there are any women reading this thread, now would be a lovely opportunity to pipe up (even if it's to put me in my place).

But seriously, that assistant manager was really stupid. She was even dumb enough to call in her fiance to watch the girl. Did he even work for McDonalds? I think he just took advantage of the situation too. Who knows? Maybe the caller didn't really ask him to make her perform the sexual act. Maybe he added that part himself. and its not like they had a gun to her head either... it is really unfortunate to have such a thing happen to a young girl but she really must've been a ditz to listen and follow that crap!

its kinda like the movie phone booth without the risk of getting shot. at some point during the incedent (3+ hrs!!!) she should have been like FCUK NO!

and the manager! wtf is up with that? what makes her think she has the authority to do anything of the sort? and her fiance? wtf does he have to do in the back office of his fiances work place. spanking?

the only decent person involved was the maintenence guy at the end, that actually realized that this situation was in no way right. He should get a medal or something, who knows how much longer this would have went on if he haddnt got involved.

well, 19 million? that would teach mcd not to hire stupid employees. Seriously, I was at mcd (or was it burgerking) the other day and my bill came out to be $3.78. I gave the cashier a 5, and had three pennies on me, so I was about to give it to her when she said, "I don't want to count pennies." omgosh, it's just 3 pennies. I swear, it's either their bad attitude, or just that they're too dumb to count.

BUt anyways, regardless of how dumb they are, I still feel sorry for the girl. >:( She deserves to be compensated, but I don't know about 19 million dollars...though I gotta say, you can't put a monetary price on the things that she went through.
