For anyone who is in a Cogeco area and doesn't use them, I highly recommend that you do.
I think they are an amazing company to deal with and their customer service is so far above and beyond what anyone else provides.
Since I know people are going to want examples...

I had a problem with their service a few months ago. The interruption was intermittent, mainly with my internet, but also slightly affected my digital cable. The interruption lasted about a week. They sent a technician out within two days of me calling, gave me an exact time that he would be there (none of this 8-4 BS), the guy came out, fixed a piece of faulty hardware, and left witin 3 minutes. Cogeco called me an hour later and offered me a free month of all of my services for my trouble. That's right, they called me and offered me a free month, I didn't have to call them! I saved about $140 because of a week of slightly interrupted service.

I ordered the movie network when I first signed on with their digital cable. They ask for a 3 month guarantee (not a contract) before you cancel. I called up a month later and asked if I could cancel, as TMN sucks! I wasn't watching it because no good movies are ever on. I figured they would say no, which would have been understandable, but they said "sure, no problem. We don't want you to pay for something you're not satisfied with."

I called about two months ago because I wanted Leafs TV but I didn't think I could get it in my area (stupid Ottawa valley). She told me I couldn't get it in my area, but I could get the Center Ice package for $26.99 per month. She said because I couldn't get Leafs TV, she would give me the center ice package for half price for the first 3 months. That's $14 off every month. I didn't even ask, she offered.

I called today to cancel my cable internet as Bell Sympatico is $29.99 for the first 3 months, although it rises to $44.99 after that. Cogeco is $39.99 although it was $24.99 for the first 6 months of my service. I was going to go with Bell Sympatico for the next three months, then switch back (they don't have a contract on that deal). Cogeco told me if I stayed with them, they would give me their internet service for $24.99 for the next 5 months, and once that 5 months is up, just call back and they'll renew that deal for another 5 months, etc. They didn't just match Bell's price, they beat it and beat their terms.

All in all, I have never been more satisfied with a company. I have never asked them for a discount or anything else, they have always offered it. I've called to complain about the service once, and two days later a tech came out and fixed the issue, at no cost to me. They have always been polite and helpful. I think they are a great company and I wish the other companies would learn from them.
I think I may stick with Cogeco for life if they keep this up.

Damn, it almost seems like I work for them or something. lol I don't though, as most of you know.

Shaner, you're the type of customer CSRs love. Too often, when people say ANYTHING about a company, its negative. Too rarely does anybody ever say "Good Work" to a job well done - they expect superlative service.

Respect to somebody willing to recognize good service.

ok

If someone was bad mouthing a company, would you still say "ok."
Not likely.

Cogeco has been great to me, so I felt like giving them much deserved credit. The best form of advertising is word of mouth and this is a site which has a lot of people who constantly bad mouth businesses. I thought I would stray from the norm for once.

Good to know. I think it is definitely important to give credit where credit is due.

Ive been with Cogeco since 1998, and I must say they are a good company (service-wise), only problem I have with them, is they charge me double (happens a lot, I would think it should only be a one time thing but no), so I have to keep an eye on my statement

It sounds like Cogeco has been meeting and exceeding your consumer needs which is good.

As I work/have worked in a Call Center, one thing you can do which really recognizes any outsanding service you receive, is during the call, if you really like the representative your'e speaking with, ask to speak to their manager because you want to commend them...most call centers have this set up, and it looks good on the rep's longterm record (for advancement, etc...)...

Just a suggestion.

Cogeco is terrible.
Since Cogeco is the only major internet service provider in my area, I don't really have much a choice and have to stick with thier slow and intermittent service.

Over the past two months, I've had countless technicians come by and try to 'fix' the connection. The only thing they can come up with is "there's service being done in the area and it will be finished in days (which become weeks and then months)". During the day, the line pings around 300 which is usuable for websurfing but not much else. During the night, the ping spikes to over 1000 and is totally useless. They also haven't offered me any type of compensation so consider yourself lucky.

If they keep this up then I'll have to find myself a business line cable service to set up.

Well, I like Cogeco, but I just called them to see if they could match Bell as Shaner did. They refused. They said they are very competitive and have the best service out there. They were ready to cancel my internet service if I wanted too.

I'm quite happy with Cogeco. I've been using them for high speed internet since the days it was called "The Wave" (1996) and the blazing high speed was 40 KB/s. :) In the late 90's things got a little spotty with the switch the to @home network. Since then things have been very good. Their staff helped to work with me on Xbox Live issues, which I thought they would care less about.

Two thumbs up from me.

Next time just hang up and try again with another representative, sometimes you get difficult people which won't give in, but if you get a cool one then everything just goes smoothly. And trust me if you had agreed to cancel your service they would have contacted you a couple of days later to get you back (with the conditions you asked for before cancelling of course), every company I've dealt with has been like that.

Ask to speak to their loyalty department, or just call and say "I want to cancel my service." They'll work with you.

I too have no real complaints with Cogeco other than the last digital box upgrade. That upgrade knocked all my digital channels out. 4 calls and 2 weeks later they finally fixed it and credited our account. The only problem I have with them is they are slow to roll out things like PVR's and when they do they aren't competitively priced. Sorry but I'm not paying $600-$700 for a PVR but because of this I will be buying a Tivo. ;)

I was looking at their hardware... holy cow the PVR price was ridiculous.

I've been having intermittent probs with my internet. They replaced the modem, it seems to have solved most of it....anyways, i called to complain hoping to get a free month. Well first they said they would only credit me for 2 weeks.
Oh well, its still money saved.
Then she said she could move me over to Digital from analog for exact same price i pay now. I would get all the same channels, a free digital box for 12 mos, and 1 free theme pack. so, thats a win for me. More channels, music channels and its the same price. Well, almost, hten she said she would reduce my internet by $10/mo for the year. So i get more stuff for about $120+tax less.

I guess they have learned the lessons of the past,

I wish rogers did the same stuff. They wouldnt even price match 3web for me. I dont get sympatico high speed in my area or i'd be all over DSL.

Well I'll balance your positive review with my negative review. :)

I used to have Cogeco digital cable and cable internet service until 2001. Out of the blue one month they charged an extra ~150$ for going over their 6gb download limit. We never had any warning about costs for going over the limit. Of course by the time we got our bill month #2 was already in full swing so we were charged for going over that month as well. We'd had their cable tv since '89 and their cable internet service since '97. There was no reasoning with them so we canceled both services. Got Expressvu for TV and Globetrotter(Telus Quebec) for internet. The Expressvu signal is a million times better than the crummy Digital Cable signal was and the channel choice was awesome. Telus DSL is just great, faster than cable(overall, 5mbps versus 6mbps but no nightly slowdowns), no download limits and excellent uptime.

Needless to say I won't be going back to Cogeco unless they are my only option. :)
