NEW POST:
Ok, everyone here's a guy not to deal with. His name is Rob Brincat. This is everything I have on him:
Brincat, Rob
24 Lauchlin Cr
Georgetown, Ontario L7G5R1
Canada
905-702-0406
416-434-9544
Email addy's:
envirotech@cogeco.ca
whitewolf_17286@hotmail.com
He owns the domain teamk3.com (used to be a clan)
He is also active under the username "Feral" on a few forums, including price n3tw0rk. (RFD's censors don't like that one.. :))
He is still actively scamming people. In May/06 he took a member of RFD for $300. Add that to the $725 he took from me, and the other smaller amounts reported throughout this thread, he has stolen probably $1500 from RFD members.
He is active on thecomputermechanics.com as Beowulfz, and has logged in within the last week or two.
According to his profile on TCM his birthday is February 28, 1978. And he claims to live with his parents.
HE WILL RIP YOU OFF.
THE OLD POST:
His name is Rob Brincat, and he has $725 of mine from a deal for two laptops that he's had since August.
From this thread (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184003)
I had been in contact with Dealforme on this topic, but I notice that nothing has been posted in the BST main area warning about him.
I've filed a complaint using the RECOL service as suggested on the forums. Hopefully something comes of it.
Just a heads up. And if anyone knows how to get a hold of this guy, let me know please.
December 11th UPDATE:
I had a discussion with him on Dec 9th, and he has agreed to refund my money by Dec 16th. I'm hoping that I can trust him on this, and will keep you posted as to how it goes down.
Thanks again for all your support!
December 16th Update:
He'd promised to get me my money by today. I have not yet seen it, nor have I received a tracking # from the expresspost he was supposed to be sending it by.

Good luck w/ the MSN thing, he's probably blocked me already. :) I had him on my MSN too.
By the way, he's also posted the same thread on Anandtech (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=45&threadid=1615160&enterthread=y)
It appears that he's not actively selling anything, but the name "Rob Brincat" should be added to the "don't trade with" list.

this guy has been on my ignore list for a year now. Obviosly low moral values, lowballed my laptop 50% of asking price referring to some local shop selling laptops off at that price, stopped responding when I asked for address/number of the shop to check it out. I think he said he lived in Brampton but I could be wrong.

What I don't get is that he had 35ish positive heat when I started the deal, and he gave me his email, AIM, MSN, address and phone number, yet he still walked away from it.

I've been reading this story for some time now. It is very tragic how people get f*cked over. As Frank Lopez said in Scarface..."if people would do business the right way, there would be no f*ck-ups like this"
I don't understand how scamming people can live with themselves after that, even if they succeed un-caught.

Rob had decent heatware, 35 positive, no negative. So, I figured I could trust the guy. Plus, ppl in his thread selling the items seemed to be pretty positive about their experiences with him, so I was OK w/ me sending out the $ to him first, even though I was the one with far higher heat.
Anyway, I sent him the MO around August 16th, On the 25th I got a PM from him saying that he received it and was shipping out the laptops.
A few weeks later I still had no laptops, so I tried to get a hold of him, and finally contacted him on the phone and he said that hte laptops had gotten returned to him saying that they were sent to an invalid address or something stupid. (I gave him my address and it's right, so I have no clue where he actually supposedly sent it to).
Anyway he said he'd purolator it to me and that's the last I've heard from him.
Apparently Dealforme got a hold of him in mid october but that's the last anyone has heard from him and he hasn't logged in to RFD since.

Would it be helpful to have a feedback forum in RFD to put all this infor together? Although some sellers have positive feedback somewhere else, I rather count on feedback from other RFD members instead.
Anessa
Nov 10th, 2005, 02:39 PM
Feedback can mean nothing and possibly even faked. I'd recommend local deals if at all possible and checking your cash out on the spot. Seen too many people trying to pass off counterfeit money in big deal transactions. I hope you get this douchebag.

well, it's not that I haven't had experience trading... :) I have 145+ heatware and a bunch of ebay feedback.
But I do agree with you that would be ideal, but when you live in hick nowhere Manitoba personal deals aren't really an option.

Sounds like he was lying low waiting for the big whale. Build yourself a nice heatware rating buying and selling small fry until you see a juicy buy. Then scam and run.

Did you buy a MO from Canada Post? If yes, don't they have some sort of protection? Go to your local authorities! Since this is a high priced item, they may pay more attention compared to petty e-thefts.
Nubee
Nov 10th, 2005, 02:55 PM
Seem to be living off the money he stole from other people as he got his first =351657]negative feedback (http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=20459&expand[0) for an item he sold that did not materialize. Feedback sure isn't a telling factor if a guy is good to deal with or not.
Hope this works out for you in the end as I have gone thru the same circumstances when I was still new here.

Hey Kenazo.
Regarding the CAnadaPost MO. If you ask for them to cancel it, they basically can't do it. For them, it's basically cash. Once it's out, it's out. However, they could give you a lost money order form to cancel the old one. That's what I had to do before. Didn't work for me though 'coz the guy cashed it out already after scamming me.
Worth a shot...no?
Take care and good luck.

He's cashed the MO months ago, that's not at all the situation. I'm just wondering if this counts as like Postal fraud or something, and if as such it falls under CP's jurisdiction. In the US postal fraud is a very serious thing and the USPS has a whole investigative devision for such things.

Why don't you guys all get together and report this thief? Get the police or someone with authority to call that number or go to that address, even if it's not his. Chances are the people who answer the door/phone will end up getting scared or fed up with you guys and will end up talking to this guy, wherever he is. They probably would have a better chance at knowing where he is, or at least have his number.
That's a lot of money to be thrown out the window to some shameless SOB, he needs to be taught a lesson. I would not let this die, even if it was a goddanm twonie, the basic principle remains that this kind of crap is unacceptable.
Best of luck

I've been gone on an audit for the last couple weeks and hadn't checked out the forums lately.
Some nerve if he's back here as "beowulfe" now. I'm really surprised the mods haven't jumped him then.
He told me that he shipped to the wrong addy, but I'm quite surprised at that. I've asked him where he shipped to then, and of course he's never told me. Even if he had shipped to the wrong addy, surely by now he could have turned it around and gotten it back to me.
How long ago did he say that he was "settling the issue"? I haven't received any contact from him of any type for well over 2 months, probably closer to 3.
At this point, I no longer want the laptops, as I no longer have a need for them. I expect full financial restitution.

i tried to solve the problem with them be4
this is what they told me:
Sorry sir, there is nothing we can do about it, since we only provide the delivery service here, we deliver what we should, we have no obligate for any lost or any investigation to unsent or unregistered item. You might want to contact your local officer or find futher help with the online resolver.

You know how there's that show 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' - there should be a bounty-hunter that goes around and catches online scammers.
On another board recently Charlie Wenzel got 'outed' as a repeat-scammer by board members and came good due to the heat he was getting:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225183
and there was another punk kid scammer named Chris Marquis that met his untimely demise many years ago after ripping off the wrong person online.
But for the most part, all these scammers think sit there behind their computers and nobody can touch them. And it's unfortunate that people have to resort to 'drastic' measures to get their own back, but what other options do they have? Police say "it's petty crime.. we're too busy or not enough was stolen".
And while cases such as the one in this thread with the laptops has absolutely nothing to do with me, in a way, it *does* : I buy and sell stuff online and one of these days if a scammer isn't busted today, then he'll still be around to rip me off.
And that pisses me off.
I hope that all scammers get what's coming to them.
It may not be tomorrow, it may not be next week - but one day, when you least expect it, your time will come..

they say never deal with thieves, specially the ones who steal and sell things for cheap...i always thought its best for me to buy something off store for 300$ then buy it from a thief for 100$, for the same item. U support the thieves to steal more and rip more ppl. So expect to get ripped off, one day if u keep this habit. I got ripped off once by a thief, and it wont happend again, i rather work my ass off and buy it from store or someone who OWNS a receit for there products on sale, that they bought honnestly...anyways good luck!!!

Don't be an ass. I've bought maybe upwards of $50,000 off of various forums and have had great success in the past, as I'm sure the majority of the users on the forums could also atest to.

i've purchased over $2600 on one transaction and traded over $4000 that whole day. that's small fry compared to more sr. members on this board -- if you research and perform your due diligence then things will work out. make sure you can track your item's history and ask your seller to provide a warranty on top of the manufacturer's (no matter how limited). if something goes wrong try to resolve it privately but warn others if that trader is a troll. there are several project managers & suppliers on this board who may have surplus items. if you prefer to purchase in-store that's great (i do that as well), but if i know a dependable seller i'll stick with him/her -- that's why we have heatware & B U M P RFD'ers in good standing.
if you doubt my word you can PM guys who have traded $1600 laptops & $200 electronics from me. they'll vouch on my track record.

I know this sounds stupid, and sinking to his level, but you could pretend to be someone else, try to sell him something for $725, get payment, and do the same as he did to you. If he thretens to call the police on you, tell him who you are and tell him you already have a report on him all filled out and ready to go to the police unless he just goes away, and let you keep that $725 that he owes you.
Then again... you may end up in trouble... since the "He did it first" thing doesn't work for police.

dang......that's very sad
i've also had a bad experience with this person. bought a few printers of this guy.........and haven't been able to use ne1 of them. they were cheap.....like 50bux for 4 of them. one was laser, two were bubble jet and the fourth was an all in one without ne cartridges. the laser and bubble jet were suppose to be in working order and compatible with windows 2000. but the 2 bubble jet haven't worked. the laser worked for like 2 days and there was a line showing on each print.......i messaged him and he told me to open the top and clean the drum with a soft cloth. upon closing the tab the printer started giving error. has been dead ever since.
i only lost 50 bux....but this is way beyond.
i shud have reported this guy but not sure if it wud have helped......bak then i was using ************.

To be sure... always keep a copy of the postal money order. With this information the transaction can be tracked... You'll get at least the 'real' name and address of the person who cashed it, which is recorded (you need a least two pieces of ID) and with any luck he used his drivers lic. number. This is enough information to go to court.. I doubt the police will do much considering the amount involved unless he's done it to many others.
I suspect you'll get a judgement in small claims court, but collecting this judgement will be a chore... but eventually you'll get your hands on something.
I don't deal unless I'm driving distance, they send first, cod, or I don't care if I lose... guess it limits my deals, but also limits my loses.

Guys, some of your suggestions against Beowulfz (Rob) are getting incredibly vile and unnecessary.
He has re-established contact with me, and assures me that repayment will be coming. I look forward to receiving that money.
I do appreciate the suggestions and support that you've shown to me during this, however suggesting that I should retaliate through violence is a little out of place.
Perhaps I have a little too much faith in people, but I do believe that this will work out in the end.
I still suggest that you avoid dealing with this fellow until this situation is resolved. Once it is resolved to the liking of both parties, I will definately ask that this thread be removed.

Any seller that allows a situation to go unresolved for 3 months is a bad seller in my books. Removing doesn't achieve anything, and only serves to help the seller have a good reputation, whereas if it's left here at least a future buyer can look at the facts and decides if he wants to risk going through the same headaches as you.
Pls don't delete.

Sorry about that, I didn't mean that the thread should be deleted, just that the personal attacks against him should be removed. It's ture that this is history, and should be reflected in RFD, however there was no reason for the personal attacks against him/threats, regardless of how injest they might have been.
That said, he said the reason I haven't been paid back yet is b/c of a lack of funds on his part. He's promised to pay me back, although in installments, though I am still being quite wary. He's promised me things before, and am hoping that he delivers this time.

Well, his name is Robert Brincat, and one does show up in that search. I'll have to give it a try.
And, no, this is still not resolved. I've spoke with some local police and they don't think the police in Georgetown will be able to do anything, since this is really a breach of contract, which is a civil matter. But hey, maybe I'll be able to get a hold of a someone willing to help.
And as for the length of time, he has been keeping in contact with me from time to time, promises me my money, asks for the address, etc... which has been the reason I haven't been pursuing legal action. Evidently his word is useless, and now I have time, and will be getting my money back one way or the other.

I love reading these horror stories; they are so entertaining and also informative. As I've read several I've learned a few things. One guy had given the advice of contacting the local law enforcement (as you said won't do anything) and his advice was once they brush you off, let them know you are going to contact the local prosecutors office and they should get real serious real fast according to the post I read. You have so much information, if you gave them it the individual should be giving you your money back within a specific period of time. I personally am not sure if this will work, but it was advice from someone who ran into a loser of similar low morals. I not rich by any means, so if something like this happened to me I would be bounty hunting! Good luck dude.

The guy comes on msn very regularly. I never see him as online because he says his msn is damaged so he always appears offline but when I'm chatting wtih him his msn remains with offline status  really wierd but the perfect way to hide from everyone. I can't even send him an msn message but I am able to reply when he initiates the convo, his status remains offline even during a convo  . As much as I hate to do this I'm debating making a trade with the guy, absolutely no one on RFD wants to take my motherboard but he desperately wants it, seeing as I'm bankrupt he's my only option. If he takes the board I will wait for him to ship his parts first and I'll share the address info for your benefit.
He currently builds servers for people and even mentioned that he sells truckloads of flattened empty computer cases to recycling plants for the money. Something like $400 per truckload he gets.

NEW POST:
Ok, everyone here's a guy not to deal with. His name is Rob Brincat. This is everything I have on him:
Brincat, Rob
24 Lauchlin Cr
Georgetown, Ontario L7G5R1
Canada
905-702-0406
Email addy's:
envirotech@cogeco.ca
whitewolf_17286@hotmail.com
He owns the domain teamk3.com (used to be a clan)
He is also active under the username "Feral" on a few forums, including price n3tw0rk. (RFD's censors don't like that one.. )

Since my last post here I think I've seen him come online like once. He was offering me a choice between a really nice wireless router or cash. Either way he's supposed to send first before I send him anything. Still he hasn't finalized any deals with me, just discussed some options and expressed major interest in my board. Since back in June I havn't seen him online and have not received any messages from him either. Guess he's the touch and go unreliable type. If I do end up making a trade or sale with him I will ask him about your $725.

He's obviously done this before, and one day it'll ALL get back to him. I actually pity him...he and others like him are nothing but filth.
It looks like I am also in a situation where I have quite frankly been screwed on rfd (money sent, product not received). I agree too. If calling and emailing don't work, then go and see him in person, take him to the police if you have to. It's not about the money anymore, it's about making yourself feeling justified. I know you live far away, but if you let him get away, you are going to feel pissed everytime this event comes to your mind, for your whole life, might as well try to straighten it out.
From 411.ca:
(905) 702-0406 is a land line based in Georgetown, ON
The registered service provider is Bell Canada**.
Detailed listing information is not available.
If it's a land line phone, then it's probably the phone in his house, and if his claim that he is living with parents is true, then maybe you can keep calling, and hopefully someone other than him will pick the phone up. You could just tell'em the whole story, or just to confirm that he is still there and then you can take a real vacation trip to Ontario since Georgetown is so close to Toronto and other major cities, and visit him while you are at it, and maybe you could get this stuff sorted out. It will make you feel ALOT better.

Then a $725 dollar beating is in order! ;)

this is the reason why im totally against.. paying way b4 receiving a product..
The only way i would buy somethin b4 i received it is through Paypal.. besides that, there are enough con-artists out there.. its not hard to con people, and rip them off.. its the self respect you have for your self and the respect that you have for others that should prevent it..

I'm still out. This guy is still evil and I hope he gets perma-banned from any forum he frequents. (Including this one) :(
I've been a long time trader and member of RFD, and have never been burned by anyone before. You guys are all awesome traders, but if ever there was a bad apple, he was it.

That means OP would have to wake up at 3AM to call him, lol.
Or, if he could've somehow engineered something to call them up automatically...

lol... I just called him. :D
It's 1:30cst, so that must make it almost 3am his time.
The conversation went as follows:
Me: "Hi, it's Kenton and you owe me $725"
Rob: "Dude it's 3am"
Me: "and you've owed me $725 for almost 2 years, I don't care"
Rob: "we're not doing this, I'm going back to bed"
Me: "Have fun, I'm going to keep calling..."
The best part was both him and his mom picked up at the same time and I asked for Rob right away.
Mom: "Rob, is that for you"
Rob: "yeah mom, go to bed"
he hee... The best part was how tired they both sounded. I hope I got his attention again. Rob, I know you're going to read this... I'm going to keep calling you until I get my money, so change your phone number or send it to me...

Well, don't give him ideas...
Point taken. I forgot that he was a time zone ahead of me... yeah, that's it.

Can the police do something in this situation?? I guess not....
I remember I watched the News on TV, the police stated that even a guy stole a $50 gas in a gas station, they would do nothing about that $50.

too bad you can't get his bank account and go to a teller machine deposit $725 but insert an empty evelope  . He'll have some explaining to do at that point. Even worse if you pull out $725 the next day, FRAUD.
Why not make a $725 loan in his name, you have all his info already. Isn't there a way to do that with his info?

What.. the.. fcuk?
The only person explaining anything will be YOU, when the cops are stuffing your moronic ass into a cruiser after the bank IDs you from any one of the closed circuit feeds at the ATM.
Fraud? Theft? Would you like to go to jail? Argh.

We're not talking $50 here..... It's theft over $500 !!!.........
Call the police station closest to where he lives.......
If the police tell you they won't/can't do anything then ask them
for the phone number of the District Attorney's Office. Ask for and
write down the officer's name and badge number.
Call the District Attorney's office and explain what happened with
the thief and that the police stated they won't do anything. The
police will do something after that phone call.
This is assuming you have proof you shipped the turd those items......
I bet they'd send out a swat team if a Tim Hortons was being robbed.....
