sounds like a nice price....

XP:MCE is about 150
3.0 processor is 225.
250 gig drive is about 130 on sale.
1 gig pc3200 is around 120.

so that's already $625

It also comes with dual layer DVD drive and a DVD-ROM drive, keyboard/mouse/remote, gigabit ethernet, PSupply, internal flash memory reader, $70 ATI video card, and a TV tuner card

I'd say hot deal!

Haha... well I went ahead and bought this. I hope it turns out well. Anyways thanks OP.

I payed with paypal, but my paypal takes 6-8 business days or so to clear the payment, meaning Tiger Direct will get their money in 6-8 days. Does this mean they'll send my comp in 6-8 days? Or will it send first and get money later? Thanks to anyone who helps me.

It was likely RMA'd to Gateway, who then repaired it and repacked it back to saleable conditions.

Return(ed) Material Authorization.

Say, you have a failed hard disk which is still under warranty. You need to get a RMA number from the manufacturer before you return the bad disk and get a good disk.

Great little unit! I bought a full price GT5016H unit at Costco for about $1500+tax but it is dual core 2.8GHz with Pentium D 820 processor. It included a 19" LDC monitor. A bit noisy but well worth the price...

tech prices always have a downward pressure, so yes generally, it will be cheaper. But, will you be hardcore enough to wait in line to get the deal you are looking for?

No DVI out, check the pics/link.

As far as hooking up a console... the TV card has s-video and stereo inputs... I don't have enough experience to know if you can use it ass a passtrough to output to a monitor though. I would think so, but not positive.

A friend of mine told me in regards to the dvi thingee, it can support it since it has the ATIx300se??? not to sure if the "SE" has the DVI ability, but again I am clueless and only remember that a dell sales rep said the AtiX series vid cards do have dvi but im not sure which one.

I will repeat.

Read the link. No DVI out. No DVI connector in any pic. If the X300SE has DVI out on some cards, this PC does not have one of those cards. Chances are your LCD has a VGA anyways.

I think all the MCE tuner cards are MPEG encoders. Your basically looking at video being streamed to your desktop. Depending on the card there will be a delay of 1-2 secs minimum, making your reaction time on the console delayed as well. I can specifically speak for the avermedia card but I have heard the hauppauge cards have this problem.

Intergrated audio is pretty much standard on every motherboard these days. Typically if you want better sound, you buy a better solution. Some onboard sound can be OK. I'm geussing this won't be amazing, but decent sound.

As for the Video, it is PCI-E (Express) not PCI. Huge difference. AGP is no longer being produced and the new cards are all PCI-E. The video is nothing amazing, but it does have S-Video out, so it should be fine. Most decent HDTVs have a VGA in anyways.

This system has some pretty decent upgradeability, depending on the chipset. Not a bad price at all if you don't mind refurbs.

The graphics card is PCI-express. It's a newer bus/slot than AGP (16x vs 8x, whatever that means).

http://reviews.cnet.com/ATI_Radeon_X300_SE__128MB_HyperMemory_/4505-8902_7-31406674.html

The card is a budget card, so it might not be ideal if you are into the latest games, but should run things decently if the details are down. For a really good upgrade to the system, the 6600GTOC is on sale now
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=13868&vpn=BFG6600GTX&manufacture=BFG%20Technologies&promoid=1046

I know, but when I check out, it shows 0$

I live in Ottawa. I added this to my cart to see what the final cost would be.

The first time I went to check out, it showed shipping as $39.46 and taxes as $0, total: $659.43

After I backed out and went back in, it showed shipping as $0 and taxes as $93, total: $712.97

If I go to the "edit order" screen, it then shows shipping as $39.46 and taxes of $98.91, total: $758.34

If I were to buy it, I would of course want to go the first example, but I would live with the second example (hey we all have to pay taxes lol), but I have a feeling I would end up being charged as per the third example mentioned above. Anyone else have this type of experience checking out from tigerdirect and if so, what did you end up being charged?

The PC only has 3 months warranty anyways. You aren't buying this for the warranty, you're buying it because its dirt cheap. Gateway disappears in 3 months you won't have a warranty anyways.

You won't be able to OC an Emachine or this system. Its simply a board limitation. Vanilla OEM generic motherboards won't have OCing features.

If you bought it from the .ca site there is no brokerage fees. From the .com site then there will be extra fees involved.
I was thinking of pulling the trigger on this but I just bought the Emachines deal from FS for $299 with a free printer. This is a better machine but it also is about $370 more than what I paid and no free printer, 3mo. warranty as opposed to 1 year and I figure I can always upgrade to Athlon 64 3700+ at some point.

Weird, I ordered mine on Friday around 8pm EST and I can't track it yet. (makes sense since it's a weekend). When I click on the tracking link, it says that it cannot be viewed at this time. (my previous orders show up OK).

p.s. There's also a pretty good deal on a 19" AOpen LCD display. It has DVI and is 12ms. Price $329 + Shipping, however there's a 50$ US rebate! (Came up to just over $400 after all taxes and shipping to Toronto, before the rebate.) I know AOpen is not the best of brands, but the reviews seem to be quite positive. funny you ask....

I order it just before I posted the deal (Friday) and just go it now.

I was tracking the package all day and it kept saying "Out for Delivery". The last time I checked (at around 6:45), it was still displaying the same message so I figured that it won't come anymore today.

When I saw your message, I thought I'd check one last time. It said that it was delivered!!! I checked with my security and the packaged had just arrived. The guy has been delivering since 8am!!

Well, it's there, along with my Aopen 19" monitor. No time to play with it now, but I'll post detail, if anyone cares, by the weekend.

I've dealt with Tiger direct twice now and find their service excellent. Their shipping is fast, Customer service is great and prices can't be beat! The shipping can be a little steep sometimes, but at least they use UPS. It was shipped as promised on Monday night and got it today. Wow.

It seems like most (like the one I got from FS for $599) are actually built with a 550 P4, running at 3.4GHz. I've seen a few posts elsewhere mentioning that they also got a 3.4 GHz, so the odds may be fairly good...

[QUOTE=baileyr]This Gateway is on sale at Tiger now for $599:

That's the US price Canadian price is $810
Not such a hot price anymore :(

Hate when that happens... Damn Beer...

I must have been surfing around on both sites and when I saw $599, it didn't seem too hard to believe since that's what FS had them for about a month ago...

Sorry...

(hangs head in shame)

I got mine last Wednesday after ordering on Monday. The machine is a rocket, just gotta get a better video card (with DVI out) amd a better TV Tuner card (HD-in capable when they come out) and I'm set. Use the digital out on the 'puter to get 5.1 through my Reciever. Media Center kicks butt. Ah, Family Guy without commercials burned to DVD. Sweet..... And yes the picture does show 512MB of RAM, but should have te 1GB as advertised. I have a 3.0mhz chip. Not heard of any going out with 3.4mhz.

That was my fault...

The 3.2GHz refurb that I got at FS turned out to be 3.4GHz (and I heard of others that got the same). I got it for $599, but it was never that cheap at the CDN Tiger site.

I wasn't referring to the media refurb - so I just confused everybody...

Well, I've played around with it since the weekend. It is 3.0Ghz with 1GB of Ram. The thing's really nice. The first thing I did was to change the video card for one with DVI (I got the ATI X300SE with 256 MB from Pacific mall at $67 and just kept the regular drivers (same engine). Now, I get to enjoy the full beauty of my new AOpen 19" LCD that arrived at the same time ($279Cdn after rebate). The only issue is that the new card has a fan (the old one didn't) so the thing is slightly noisier.)

I've had a bit of trouble with the MCE2005 though. I was trying to install the "MSN remote connect utility (Allows you to schedule programs while away from home, via MSN) but the thing told me that I had to upgrade to Windows MCE 2005 first!!! (I have that already!). I called their useless tech support and they told me to contact the retail sales tech number (which is long distance for me). I then decided to just rebuild it from the restore DVD after seeing someone say that it happened to them as well after installing a service pack.

After rebuilding it, I first installed the remote connect utility first (it worked) and then all the service Packs. Now I notice that I can't use "Microsoft Tweak MCE 2005", it also tell me that it only runs on MCE 2005.

Otherwise, I'm happy with it. I will also upgrade the tuner card to HDTV to see what I can pick up off air.

When I was having a close look at mine, I could have sworn it said it was XP Professional where I expected it to say MCE. Don't have it nearby. Will check and edit this post.

Future Shop is selling this machine (or very similar) for $599 until the 22nd. Screen says 33 in stock. *Web Orders Only

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10070044&catid=#

WebID: 10070044

Released 15 Dec/05. The Gateway 831GM is loaded with Intel Pentium 4 630 processor with Hyper-Threading, 512MB memory, 250GB hard drive, 16X DVD +/-RW Drive and many more. *Refurbished

If I go to canada computers and build the same system with the cheapest parts, it comes out just over 600, so I would say this is a 'good/warm' deal.

The one from FS only comes w/ 512MB. For $20 diff, I think the one at TD is better since they come w/ 1GB

Afaik the FS 831GM differs from this threads TD 820GM (I p/u :) ) in that the the 831 does not have a TV tuner nor the ATI PCI-e card that was included in the 820...it's all good though as the 831 has an avail PCI-e x16 open and an open PCI slot to utilize the full capabilities of the MCE...these are sweet machines even though refurb mine had the look and smell of a new unit :D

YMMV

Blame seanster bring this thread alive :) And good catch MeekGeek, the one from FS doesn't even have TV Tuner will make this deal sucks. (I was googling to find the spec when I saw this...)

I was unaware there was a TV Tuner or ATI card in the TD machine. It's not mentioned in the first bunch of posts. The difference in ram is $60 at most, so with FS free shipping it seemed close enough to include in this thread rather than make a new one.
