My first deal, doesn't seem to be a dupe. Just saw it yesterday in the Sears flyer, starting this Saturday (Nov 5).

Pricematching should make it more interesting. Especially at Visions, since they claim they will price match minus 5% (not just 5% of the difference).

Not a bad deal if you are looking but prices seem to have gone down so price matching to save more might be difficult (FS has it at $2999 and BB has it for $2699).

Still nice tv for the price.

Post if you find good places to try PM (not aware of any Visions in my area)

Does Sony still make the GW's or are they all about the SXRD(I think that is it?) TVs?

Has anyone seen the SXRDs? That is one AMAZING television. The 70" is much to expensive at $17,000 but I am pretty sure it does 1080p at 1920 x 1080. Looking at the picture I think I dropped a bit of drool out of the corner of my mouth.

[edit] Does Sears qualify as a certified Sony Retailer? Because this might be helpful as well:

Well, I would assume that eg. for the 50" the difference is $500, and FS should beat it by 10% of the difference so...

2500 - (500 * .10) = 2450

i bought the 42" a10 with the stand back in august from sony store when nobody had it in stock since they were new models just out, i managed to get 10% off :)

this is an awesome TV and price is very good at this moment, even better if you can get 110% PM at FS or BB, for sure price will be lower by boxing day. :D

check out AVS forum and there are couple dedicated threads. :D

It is pretty sweet, isn't it? I got mine around October 20ish @Visions, and they offer 60-day price protection. FWIW, the sales guy told me that boxing week sales will actually be starting the week before xmas, so I should have the opportunity for an even better price.

I've seen the new SXRD's, and the one you want to get is the 70". The other ones 55" & 60" are pretty much like the regular A20's, yeah the SXRD's (55 & 60) do display 1920 x 1080 but it's very pixelized. I don't think they put the care into this as they did with the 70". Also, reading the manual, the 55 & 60 only do 1080i, and if you think you can get 1920x1080 plugging you PC into it, think again... it only takes upto 1024x768.

I've been looking at the A20, but after looking at the A10's, I think I can step down a screen size, the blacks on the A10's are incredible.

I was about to post this, lol. I might be getting one of these, PMed price with FS is $2449, which, you might be able to achieve at Boxing Week, but getting it now you'd have it for 2 months sooner. The question is, if Boxing week will have this for even cheaper than this price or not...

Curse you - i was okay sitting and waiting till Xmas / new year - now I have to make a decision!!! This is about the same as the old model clearance prices.

The new GWs have the new aperture - better blacks, new speaker location so the set is much more compact, etc... They are really nice rear projection TVs.

I am really interested in the Sony BRAVIA™ 40" LCD HDTV but it is about twice the price of the 42 listed here.

This price is very promising for the months leading up to Xmas - we may see many good deals this year. :)

Yeah, I think that's right... it'll take a 1080i signal and display it as 1080p but it does not have a 1080p input.

AVS Forum (http://www.avsforum.com) has lots of discussion about it.

I agree - I was hoping to wait until Boxing week first, but at this price, it might be worth getting it now. All you have to decide is whether or now Boxing day can go lower than this price.. and honestly, I doubt it. I think this is probably the most FS/BB can go.

Really? Can someone confirm this? If Sears really does have 90 days price protection, it might be worth it to not price match, and get it at Sears directly. You'll pay an extra $50, but with a 90 day price gaurantee, you'll be gauranteed for whatever happens during Christmas.

Anyone able to confirm this?

Oh, and I'm sure Sears will have boxing day deals on TVs.

Sears is only 30 days, like the rest of them.

I just received the flyers from Sears.
I believe these are the old model TVS from Sony.

It doesn't mention the model number.

If you check the regular price that's advertised for the 50'' TV, it's 2.799
The MSRP for this TV is 3.199 and most companies use THAT as the regular price (to they can say 500.00 off the regular price).

Can anyone confirm?

Unconfirmed reports from another forum indicate that these are the new KFE models without the ATSC tuners or cable card slots...they do not have them in stock but they are indicating Nov 30th delivery. (something that should have been disclosed in the ad)

But why would a newer model not have CableCard and the older model does?

I don't think it's supported by Rogers (or any Canadian cableco yet) but it is definitely futureproofing in the event they do support it.

I think the logic is that both the tuner and the CableCard are for the American market. The KFE may never be sold there because all digital sets in the States have to have built in tuner by a certain date (not sure when). In Canada, if you don't have access to OTA digital broadcasts (or don't want the hassle) then there is no need for the tuner.

As for the CableCard, I don't know if you will ever see the need for it in Canada (IMO only) The cable and satellite companies are too gready and they want to rent/sell you a set top box and make you commit to their service.

Again, IMO only, I don't think it is worth paying for these things if you are never going to use them. In Ottawa there is no chance for OTA and I am happy renting an HD PVR from Rogers. (maybe happy is overstatement, there really isn't another choice for me)

Remember there is no such thing as future proof.

also they have to order the TV for you
best buy is selling the 50" for 2699

I took the plunge today and will be the new owner of this puppy come tuesday.

Sears had the KFE on sale for 2499 this model does not include a hdmi input or pc input ( i can't remember which one or if they're the same damn thing LOL)

I brought the flyer to best buy and they matched it on the KDFE model for $2479 ( which includes the above inputs, plus free 10 months of Rogers HVTV). This is the best price I've seen on this TV and figured it would be about the same price come boxing day. I was gonna get the 42 inch but when i saw the 50 it was a no brainer. This TV is #2 out of 25 on Consumer Reports and is usually around 2900-3200.

Also how much is the replacement lamp?

You're dreaming. The Sony stand is $449, of course not. Then again, it's heavily overpriced - You can probably get one for less than $300, it just wouldn't look as matching. But honestly, I don't like the Sony stand much -- look at the stand itself, the sides are curved in, which means I'll only be able to fit one device on each level of the stand, whereas the actual width of the stand should be able to at least fit 2 dvd players side by side. A total waste of space.

Well they're all going to have hdmi. KDFE has built in atsc tuner/cablecard (not needed in my opinion). But the lcd chip etc is all the same. So save some cash and go for the KFE.

In your local newspapers. It's the Sears flyer for the week of Nov 5-11 (as opposed to their weekend and appliance flyers). It's on page 46.

As has been mentioned, there's speculation that these are KFE instead of the KDFE, which is out later this month. You'll have to go to the store and check it out.

It's a decent deal if it's the KDFE, although you can probably still get it cheaper from neighbourhood TV stores. There's really no big diff though since most of us current don't need ATSC tuner or cablecard. I'd wait for the KFE to come out; it can probably be had for $2300.

Does it have CableCard? The sonystyle.ca makes no mention and the KDFE models aren't listed on the US site.

I'm not sure this is even important if the Canadian cable companies don't support it, but if they do, it's an important feature to have IMHO.

The front of the flyer says Nov 4 - 11. You're looking at the KDFE on Sears.ca, but the flyer is selling the coming KFE model, which is the same thing except minus the ATSC tuner and cablecard slot.

Looks like some are saying BB is matching the Sears $2500 KFE price by selling the KDFE for $2500 (or less). This is a decent deal, although you can probably get an even better price than that at a local independent store.

Don't under estimate the value of the built in ATSC tuner. If you live in the GTA and can see the CN tower where OTA HDTV is broadcast from you can get all the available canadian HD channels. Given this TV actually supports 1080i you probably would want the ATSC tuner except if you are willing to pay the premium for Rogers and the HD specialty channels.

They clearly are not interested in either customer retention or making a sale, as alluded to by previous posters that "apparently" were successful in pricematching. I spent the better part of an hour today at Yonge / Dundas while some sales associate and the manager scanned the SEARS site. Don't waste your time. ***

I just got this TV from BB for $2480 plus the HDTV for 12 months. I don't have rogers so do u guys think I can sell the 12 months of programming? It says on the package that its worth $260 or something like that... is it worth anything? :?:

I have Rogers, but I don't subscribe to it... The package I got for free requires basic cable.

If anyone still needs a scan of the relevant flyer page, I just made one. I'm too lazy to set it up on an image host, so just send me a PM or something and I'll email it.

What's the difference with the KDFE and the KDE, is it just the ATSC tuner and the cable card option???

Is there currently any plans to broadcast over the air HD in Canada or for the cable companies to use the cable card option?

Other than that the TV still has the save feature sets like VGA in, HDMI, component, PIP??

So far, it seems the only difference is the ATSC and CableCard slot. Someone speculated that it may be missing the HDMI input (important to have IMHO), but SonyStyle.ca claims it does have one. My KDFE doesn't have PIP, just a freeze frame feature that puts the running program in a little window.

From what I know, in Vancouver you can get HD CTV over the air with CBC coming on board 'soon'. In Toronto I think you can get a bit more. www.ctdv.ca has all the info.

Also, if you have expressvu, 2 HD CTV channels and HD CBC are included in the basic programming. Probably has something to do with the fact that they are already broadcast for free OTA.

Yeah they can be common, but at 'normal' viewing distances they aren't an issue (at least to me). With my face right up to the screen, I managed to find one so far on my set, but it's invisible when I move back.

If you're really concerned, the best advice I've heard is to just not look for them. It may or may not bother you, but once you've found one, you'll always know it's there. Ignorance _is_ bliss :)

I can't be condemned in such matter - I'll play, and play. Or watch, and watch. Lol, don't mess yourself up by doing both. And there's only sound output for one of the pictures anyways, so no point.

Does anyone think getting futureshop's warranty on a tv like this is worth it? They tried to sell me a 5 year warranty for like $370 but i told them no thanks.

Apparently you can can buy an extended warranty from Sony from their website any time up to the end of the original one year warranty. I haven't checked it out yet but I would go this route rather than the FS warranty.

Can anyone post or PM me a scan of their PM receipt with either FS or BB.

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!
