You found negative reviews for Onrebate ? Really ?

Bottom line is if you don't want to deal with Onrebate, you don't want to deal with Tiger.

I once hit 3 items totalling 4 rebates (2 on a hd), all done by onrebate.com

3/4 came without much of a hitch

1 was a bit sticky, and after like a month I checked the status, and miraculously a few days later the funds were finally deposited in my paypal account

So I'm 4/4, a bit of a snag on the one, but it came and I didn't have to complain

Also, depositing into your paypal account is kind of nice, none of the 'the cheque is in the mail' bs

It's not that bad if you get the rebate, about 54.7c / gig (after taxes/shipping/rebate/everything)

I have, and the rebates came thru no problem. You can apply for the rebate online, to speed up things, and then send the paperwork in.

I used the option of getting the rebate via Paypal, and it came quicker than a check would have. Overall, took 7 weeks or so for each rebate after submitting it.

Someone mentioned OnRebate is associated with TD, I think that's likely, and a bit more peace of mind - it's the no name, backroom operations that give rebates a bad reputation.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the item if the rebate is done by OnRebate. I did purchase a Hitachi SATA drive from TD recently, and that one has a $10 US MIR thru another company - one I recall having to bug to get a rebate in the past. Keeping fingers crossed.

This 160 GB drive is not a bad deal. :)

no Rebate...

Do yourself a favor, and get the Seagate for the 10$ more.

Frigid deal. The 200GB 16MB cache model is often available at NCIX for $99, sans rebate.

I'm still waiting for stupid onrebate.com to send me by $50 ... I sent everything they need including UPC code, but they notify me saying "UPC code not provided"

Then I called they want me to fax the UPC code (luckily I made a photocopy), now after 14 days, staff can't get to my fax because their "supervisior don't have time to print the fax".

never again will deal with anything with onrebate.com, even the price after MIR is $0.01

good luck

I agree...this deal is cold.

I'd rather go to OEMEXPRESS.com and pickup a WD 200Gig fo 99.99 + tax.

- WD instead of Maxtor
- 40more gigs
- There's that *fear* that Onrebate.com won't send the cheque...

It showed $127.66 instead $128.54 to me by using "free shipping" linkage.

It took 1 month to get my rebate for the previous deal with free shipping.

I went to check my rebate and accidently selected the link in the 'verfication' mail that they sent me over 1.5 months ago. In fact, I have now received two emails that state that I have to send in my rebate form, UPC label, and receipt! Even though I had done this over a 1.5 months ago!

Though I had received an 'accepted' email (which I guess means that the check is ready to be printed), now my status shows that it's waiting for 'documentation'!

It's obvious to me that the onrebate needs to ensure that once someone is verified, the tracking number should not be allowed to be used in a verification process again. I've sent an email to onrebate.com to try to clear up this matter. Hopefully, my 'mistake' won't cause me grief...

I agree, Maxtor HD are currently the worst on the market. Seagate, WD and Samsung are better.

I disagree, WD hdds are among the worst in the market. Maxtor and Seagate are better, but Hitachi is significantly better.

Why else do you think WD hard drives are so much cheaper than Maxtor/Seagate?

Must be why WD allows people who purchase their hard drive via the retial market to add 2 additional years on the drive's warranty for about $2-0 or so while Maxtor sticks with their 1 YR warranty for retail drives.

Just one question about onrebate. How long will it take to get the cheque after the online status becomes accepted? I have one rebare been accepted for about 6 weeks already but I still don't get the cheque!

Okay, nobody buys retail no more. Why would you want a stupid CD-rom (which the software is downloadable off the internet), 4 screws that you probably already have tons of, an IDE cable which you don't need (because most of us have 2 already), and a mushed up sheet of paper that just tells you the obvious?

Don't forget, natrually, you're paying MORE (around 30%) for the retail drive than the OEM drive. Taking into consideration that Retail is only 1 year, but OEM is 3 years, anyone would get OEM.
