Saw some batteries marked down by 50% at Black's Metrotown location last night. Have no idea if its going on at other stores.

4 x AA 2300MAH (Optex I think) for $10.
4 x AA + charger for $20.

They have been on sale before, chain-wide. Can always use more - gonna check this out.

those are great prices. i usually sell Sanyo 2300mAh for the same -- if that charger is a duracell or energizer then it's just as dependable as futureshop's Panasonic combo (discounts are rare but you can redeem a $20 off coupon from their camera kit promo).

save yourself the hassle & headaches of buying generic "no name" packages from tigerdirect & factorydirect. dependable NiMh will last years.

Looks to be chain-wide. Just called in Hamilton, and two places have them for $9.99.

Good deal.

It is chain wide.. and the 2300MAH is just old stocks.. you can get the 2500MAH for the same price.. hiding at the back or somewhere nearby... The new one come with a battery tester also :cheesygri

I got 4 pack when i was at Black earlier last week..

Pretty good price. There's really not much difference between the 2300 and 2500 mah variety as long as the quality is there. Not sure who OEMs Optex but it's probably a rebadged Mallory/GP/Nexcell product.

I bought a 4 pack with charger at zehr's for $25 as their regular price 6 months ago, it was energizer 2300 NiMH.

I bought these same batteries back in April of this year for the same price and after about 50 or so cycles they stopped holding a charge. I wouldn't buy Optex again...at least not these ones from Black's.

Were you deep discharging them by running them down or near to 0 volt? We're the batteries being used in a high current sink application (like a R/C car?) ? Also, were you using a fast charger (1 hour type) or an overnight charger?

I found that the new 1 hour chargers inject over 2 amps/hour and have killed some of my older Panasonic NiMh batteries. In fact, after charging, I found dozens of small blister bubbles on the plastic sheath that surrounds the cell.

I bought 4 AA's last time they were on sale for $10. Still working. I use a 2100mah charger.

Tell me about it (and it's not even in those high-power super-fast chargers) ... I just don't trust MIC batteries anymore .... Even Optex and Panasonic are both MIC nowadays ... Maybe these are higher-quality MIC stuff. I got a free Panasonic pack recently. I haven't yet to try them out ...

Is there anything wrong with the little 4AA/2AAA wall plugin chargers? I have a Panasonic one I've been using for quite some time.

This one, in fact:

Would a better charger extend the life of my batteries?

Possibly ... but do you want to spend ~ 70 bucks CAD for a Maha Powerex charger just so you can "extend" the life of your batteries? The Panny you have is a good charger from all accounts. Personally, it would only be worth it to upcharge to a new charger if you were really into this kind of stuff to make it worthwhile.

They were deep discharged from day one and were charged in my over night charger. The batteries have only been used in my digi cam only. The charger I have is DigiPower and I got that from Henry's. I have a set of Kodak NiMh rated at 1800 which work just fine and they've been cycled through at least 100 times. I use those on my 2MP digi cam. That's just my experience but I don't think it's my charger.

anyone know if they have any AAA on sale?

if you're interested i have 800mAh AAA available.

--> most quick chargers will do a competent job at handling all brands. generic or packages purchased from liquidators tend to be the cause of trouble. there are numerous RFD posts about defective & bulging batteries from tigerdirect/factorydirect/cwo. what important is making sure your batteries are compatible with your charger. ie. rayovac sell proprietary batteries for 30min/15min chargers.

--> generally, it's not the best idea to place NiHm in super-quick chargers. those with a "conditioning" feature are more desirable. i've been selling NiMh here for 3yrs and this blacks' price is a good deal.

i was looking for AAA's too. How much do you sell them for? I have a "Quest" branded charger...and it came with 4 AA "Quest Platinum 2000" MIC Nimh's and 2 AAA "Quest Platinum" 700mAh MIC Nimh's. Heres a pic if it helps:

I bought some of the Optex ones from Blacks in the summer, and they seem to discharge quicker than the Energizers I have, and the Energizers are 200MaH less.
I use a conditioning charger I bought at Fry's in San Jose the last time I was down there.

I just got AAA nimh batteries - a pair - for $4.99 at CWO(.ca) on College St. I think they were 800 mAh. A great deal in my books. Not a name brand, but still good.

London Drug also sells 4AA+charger for $20(optex). It has better current rating at 2500mA. I would buy from LD instead. They provides better service and return policies.

Thanks Miss Swan....I guess I'll stick with this. Even 50+ cycles make rechargables worthwhile.

I also got the 2500s at the Black's in Dundas.

quite hot! i don't have a recharger, so i guess i'll do the optex 4AA + charger for $20. are there other chargers for < $10?

Bought a couple of packages of the Optex 2300s when they went on sale last Boxing day for $10 and then bought some more a couple of months later.

I drive these puppies hard. Not only in my power hungry digital cameras but I have a Ray-O-Vac one hour charger than can really bake them.

They have performed well. I think I'll go see if I can get some 2500s.

The way I look at it, If I'm paying $20-$30 a year for batteries, that's getting off pretty cheap -- especially when you are essentially trading up to a higher capacity. I have some 800mah AA battereis kicking around which work fine but why use them anymore?

I noticed in the most recent Home Hardware flyer, they are advertising an Energizer NiMH AAA 2-pk for $7.xx . Seems like good deal -- usually I see them for $10+. Possibly a rebate too (don't know the rebate details though).

Just bought the 2500 mAh for $ 9.99 at Blacks.

It also came with a bonus battery tester keychain in the package. Yeah it's sorta lame but it's still free. The batteries comes with a 2 year warranty.

Thanks to the original poster for the decent deal.

Any chance you can post a scan of that rebate form? There isn't anything online from the manufacturer, or from Black's.

just out of curiousity

walmart has 4x 2300 mAh Energizer AAs WITH an overnight charger for 26~27 dollars

isnt that a better deal?
i find energizer pretty good quality
unless the $13 MIR form for this comes out and works, id say walmart has a better and regular hot deal

Guess it depends on whether you need another charger or not.

I picked up the Black's deal, four (4) 2500 mAh AA NiMH for $9.99 + taxes. Since I already have several chargers, that's the better deal for me. Another way of looking at it is that, for this price, I can buy another pack of four, and still be $6-7 less than the Energizer package at Wal-Mart.

You had to buy several products to get the $13 rebate. It was $3 for rechargeable AAs, $3 for rechargeable AAAs, etc. I didn't think to pick up the rebate form while I was there - I wasn't buying the batteries, just looked for them because I heard about the deal here...

I just started a thread yesterday for batteries @ TD:

http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214670

6 x AA 2500mAh for $12 and 6 x AAA 850 mAh for $9.

But keep in mind the Optex ones are 1.25V whereas the TD ones are the standard 1.2V.

Never heard of 1.25 volt rechargeables. Are you sure this isn't a marketing ploy? Isn't optex a re-brand of someone else's batteries?

haha...good point. I have no idea. But it looks like Optex is made (owned) by Gentec-International. All their batteries are 1.25V and they look pretty big so I wouldn't be surprised if they make their own.
