I thought I would post this since I am sure someone else has had this problem. I have a sony dru-720a DVD burned installed on my computer. I am using Nero to burn my DVDs and while I can burn DVDs I noticed that if I set it to burn at 2x in Nero it actually burns at 4x. Why the heck does it do this? I have the latest firmware installed.

Thanks.

wth, i thought programs only LOWER the burning speed, not raise it

Depending on the drive's firmware, sometimes the specified speed is overridden if the drive thinks an alternate write strategy or speed will give better burn quality.

The Plextors will do this a lot if you try to specify 16x burn with quality management turned on. They reach around 14X and then flatten out. FYI, Burning very slowly on media rated for high speeds does not necessarily mean that the quality will be better.
