Does anyone have any recommendations for an external hard drive enclosure? I'm looking to put a 250GB IDE drive into one and was wondering if anyone had any recommends for one? I don't really care about slim and sleek design. I'd rather have it well protected and cool.

Please share any good or bad experiences you've had as well!

Thanks in advance for your help!

purchased 2x ADS USB 2.0 External Enclosures for $17 a few months back...

one has a WD 40GB JB and the other has a WD 40GB BB drive... both work amazing well!

Should have purchased like 10 of them... oh well.

If I remember correctly, the ADS ones have the relatively slow chipset. It should be alright if speed is not a main concern.

Yeah, I noticed some sites note the chipsets that are in the drives too. But I don't know what a good or bad chipset is... I guess, like you said, the chipset determines how fast or slow the drive will transfer. But, does it do anything else? Does it affect performance in any other way?

I've had issues with compatibility on some of mine. However, I haven't done the research yet to figure out which is best.

That being said, if you read the comments on some of the enclosures at NCIX, they seem to recommend a few.
