i just got my new dual channel kit and i have a few questions... since this would be the first time for me to have dual channel...

my mobo is the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum and the ram is 2x1024 OCZ4002048PFDC-K ... according to OCZ's and MSI's site my ram is compatible with my mobo...

so my question is... how do i know if my RAM are running in dual channel??

according to MSI's site

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum&class=mb

i have it set up like this... 1stick on DIMM 1 and 1stick on DIMM 3.. how come CPUZ is saying single channel is it suppose to be like that?? and hsoul dmy frequency be at 200mhz??

i apologize if my question are stupid and would appreciate any shed of light to my question... thanks in advnace

try DIMM 2 and DIMM 4. See what happens.

You could set the memory speed manually in bios, that may help.

A bios update may also help.

your frequency should be at 200mhz, correct.

hmmm.. the manual said its strongly recommended to have the Green (dimm 1 and 2) slots filled first b4 the Purple (dimm 3 and 4) ones..

Sheesh, don't people learn to read the MANUAL anymore?!?!! :) It WILL tell you which dimms to install for dual channel. Some mobos like 1+2, some like 1+3. In *your* case, Dual Channel will work in either Dimms 1+2, 3+4, or 1+2+3+4. I looked this up on Page 2-8 of your manual which I just downloaded from MSI's website.

EDIT: btw, your DIMM slots go as follows: Green/Purple/Green/Purple.
Your Greens are Dimms 1,3 -- NOT 1,2 ;)

he's right, most A64 boards will need to install in slot 1 and 2 for dual channel (of course read your manual to confirm...)

That chart only shows the recommended configuration you can install your memory in, nothing about dual channnel. The S in there means Single-sided ram and the D in there means Double-sided ram. Basically there are 12 different combinations you can install your ram on the motherboard. Those are not "sets". ;)

Anyways, there is a chart before that one that talks about dual channel, it looks like this:

EDIT: I just read the manual closer this time and I can see how they misled you into thinking that 2nd chart was for dual channel setup. It was a mis-type, they meant the chart above. So this mixup wasn't your fault at all - it was poor editing on their part. You can blame them for fooling ya.

yeah msi is weird like that, many people think the 2 matching colour slots are the d/c setups (including some of the first k8n neo2 plat reviewers).

I agree, I have seen Cafe help out more than his share of computer related problems, and his technical expertise is very extensive.

yes exactly!!! i went to the computer store the other day and the technician made the same mistake. he just thought it folllowed the same color for dual channel (asus does that). so I looked at the manual and was like, that's not right. and showed it to him. he read the manual and still didn't believe it. so i just took the damn computer and setup the ram myself and showed his a$$.

MSI does dual channel diff from asus boards for some reason, but yet they still like to colorize it to confuse you.
