You really don't need that Zalman heatsink, the one that comes with your processor will do just fine. Get a case fan, and OC that X800 GTO2 to an X850 XT PE.

EDIT: Fixed.

I would swap the Enermax for the OCZ Powerstream 520w, and maybe go for an X2 3800+ instead of the 3700+.

You really don't need that Zalman heatsink, but I suppose it will come in handy seeing as you have the ability to OC that X800 GT02 to an X850 XT PE.

what does that have to do with buying a CPU heatsink?

Haha whoops, I read heat sink for part of it, and then read fan for the other. Just a slip.

AMD just dropped prices on all of its processors, so make sure you're getting the new price. You can get an X2-3800 for under $400 now, so that might be something to think about changing.

I would rather take the oem audigy2 zs and save about $40 or fork out the extra cash for the x-fi :)

If your getting the DFI mobo u really need to get the OCZ 520W. It has the best success rating with it. Additionally the XP-120 for a heat sink is almost a must if you are planning on getting those crazy overclocks. Additionally you might want to consider getting PC4000 RAM for it as well. That was the one beef I had when I made a similar build and so to get the most out of the cpu i had to use a divider. Talking about processor with the recent drop in price I would go for the X2 3800+ as well

So basically:
OCZ 520 save 40
XP-120 cost 5 more
X2 3800+ cost 50 more
PC4000 Ram (up to you)

-ya there is a rumor that AMD is dropping price on everything.
-get the OEM sound card, save $$
-go for Seasonic psu, popular brand with active PFC
-or go for Forton psu, they are actually manufacture for other brand-name psu too, well-known brand and cheaper too.

-awww, why get the speaker when you can wait and pricematch a hot deal :)

About the PSU.

Shouldn't a PSU of 350w - 400w be more than enough ?

What aspect of this system draws so much power that 520 w or 600 w is needed ?

Ya, I would also suggest a Seasonic PSU - really high efficiency, and of course that means less heat generated inside the case :)

Also, why not go with a Venice core - you should get more overclockability, and save some cash - seems that the 3000+ is a good candidate for going 2.5GHz is most cases, and sometimes even up to 3GHz - with air cooling! For a $200 CPU, I don't think you can go wrong.

Example of 2.8GHz clock: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=1255&redirect=yes

Looking good, looks like the exact system I have :)

The SD 3700+ is an ok choice, but for $100 less, I think you can get a new Opteron 144 or 146 (coming out soon) which is basically a 1MB cache Venice chip. OC it to 2.7 and you got yourself a FX57($1500+) for a fraction of the cost :)

It actually has very little to do with the amount of power he needs but the amount of amps going through the rails of the OCZ 520W. This PSU has been "reviewed" to be the best PSU for his motherboard. If you go to DFI street (http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/) you can read more about this mobo b4 you make the jump.

The DFI mobo is the most picky board and I would rather be sure that I'm not adding instability to it by having insufficent rails.

agree amps is important aspect in psu too, but do you really need spending more $$ for 500W to 600W ?

Antec, Seasonic, Forton have good amps too.

Antec, Seasonic, Forton have good amps too.

The only thing is that OCZ is a single rail while most models (especially the lower priced ones) will have two rails. It will work but a single rail works better with the DFI.

On any other mobo I would completely agree with you btw. ;)

So I need a OCZ PowerStream 520W too?
