I recently bought the 17inch Acer monitor from staples (The one for $230 Model AL1715B)

As you know, there was a stuck/dead pixel. When I plugged it in again today, I noticed this big white streak/line across the screen where the stuck/dead pixel was. I had saw this streak earlier during my first round of testing, but I thought it was part of my wallpaper!

When I tried different colors, the streak stayed! The streak was there when I was @ the bios screen and while windows was loading. When I turned the monitor off, I couldn't see the streak anymore, so I am guessing there is something wrong with the monitor

I phoned staples and they said the Acer moniter is discontinued and they can't exchange it for me. I said I really want this moniter. They said they can give me the Samsung SyncMaster 730b 17" LCD Monitor, Black for 70 dollars more (80 dollars after tax).

I paid 262 after taxes for the acer one. If I add in 70 dollars for the Samsung one, I basically get more than 18 dollars off the original price.

(Basically I'm paying 320 before tax)

Is it worth it? I like the MS time but don't know what DVI is. I don't think my video card can support DVI? (Radeon 9800 pro)

To my own experience, Acer monitor (17" Crt 76e)was a biggest POS in the world.Looks like they might not have imoproved their product in any positive way.?

Yes, I would trade for a Samsung anytime if money is not a concern.

I have a Samsung 17" crt as well as a Samsung 17" lcd.I do not have any problem with them.

I also have a 19" BenQ lcd and it looks okay so far.
I thought BenQ is renamed from Acer but obviouly the BenQ has better quility.

If you have two retanglular video outlets from your video, then you have DVI.

I have a radeon 9800 pro.

What's the difference between DVI and the other one?

I am not sure when you bought the monitor but if it is within 30 days, you can return it.

After 30 days, talk to Acer for an RMA replacement

You do have DVI on your video card, and it'll give you better image quality than the standard VGA.
