I think they make in the teens per hour. They also have to work Christmas and holidays alot of the time.

I heard they get a lot of verbal abuse from the customers.

Your tips will vary depending on what tables you're dealing at...you won't get much tips at a $5 or $10 table.

I think you'd make much more as a host...

Here in Niagara the dealers get a "tip-out". It usually works out to several hundred dollars a month on top of the union wages. We live in "Casino Alley", the area of town preferred by Casino workers. We have several dealers living on the street plus 2 supervisors. They definitely do ok but the hours generally suck. It's difficult to get fulltime and when you do you go to the bottom of the senority list and get the worst hours and all holidays...

I would have to imagine that you could make very good money working in the high rollers lounge. I have commonly seen the dealer get tipped anywhere form $20-50 on a big hand win...

How does that work? Are all the tips pooled and then divided equally amongst the dealers? Or do you keep whatever you get?

Yes, tips are pooled. They cannot accept tips from customers or they risk being fired on the spot. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. It could look like a player was paying off the dealer. There are a ton of conditions placed on employment. Things like they aren't allowed in the casino in their off time without prior written consent from a supervisor, even then they cannot gamble. They also are searched before entering and when leaving the casino for their shifts.
