The China Daily, a state-owned newspaper in China, have reported that police in the country are investigating reports of baby auctions on the auction site Eachnet -- eBay's Web site in China.
According to Eachnet manager Tang Lei, boys were up for sale for 28,000 yuan and girls were being offered for 13,000 yuan, or US$3,450 and US$1,603 respectively. The auctions may have been a hoax.
However, a black market of child trafficking is currently thriving in China. The Eachnet seller said on the auctions that their motivation in selling the babies was to help infertile couples in China.

I was unber the impression that the ' 1 child policy ' in China was a myth based on some from some posts I read in another thread, yet from this link I read...
" China's strict "one child" birth control policy, coupled with the traditional bias for male children, has led to widespread reports of child abductions"
is this ' 1 child policy ' an enforced policy in China that the authorities take seriously ?
or does it depend on where you live in China - urban / rural ?

well.. if you have more children.. all you have to do is fork out more money.. and the governemnt won't care.
either that.. or in more rural places.. people just don't register birth certificates for newborns
