Prince William, 23, has passed the aptitude tests necessary to join the military academy at Sandhurst. His younger brother Harry has been at Sandhurst since May. He says "I am absolutely delighted to have got over the first hurdle, but I am only too well aware, having spoken so much to Harry, that this is just the beginning."

The officer training lasts for 44 weeks, with the initial 5 weeks being a tough breaking-in period. During the course cadets get up at dawn, may not leave the site, finish the days training late and have very little off-duty.

Seems to be following in his dad's and family's footsteps....Prince Charles served in the Royal Navy for five years, including service as a helicopter pilot and then command of the minesweeper HMS Bronington....Prince Andrew served in the Royal Navy too including a stint flying a Sea King helicopter off HMS Invincible during the Falklands War.

let's hope William keeps out of harm's way
