Just got mine in the email tonight, hope any RFDers who did it did well.
I didn't ace the thing, but I did slightly better than the avg. score at my top choice law school (McGill), so I'm pretty happy.

I did my first practice test in early Aug. but my work sched. was such that I didn't get to do much work at all in Aug/Sept (about 1 test a week during that span, if that). In Oct, I took one of those prep seminars which helped a lot.
Being prepared for the LSAT is all about practice, time managment and familiarity.
There are three types of sections and within each roughly 15 question types. You should be familiar with each type when you go to take the test. There should be absolutely no surprises in it for you.
You do 6 35 min. sections on test day. 5 multiple choice and one writing sample (A brief essay which doesn't actually count). Of the 5 multiple choice sections, 1 is a test sections and doesn't count, they use it to test experimental questions for future tests (which is dumb IMO).
Each 35 min section contains roughly 25 questions and has 5 possible answers.
The three section types are Reading Comp. (read a 45 line passage than answer 7-8 questions on it) Analytical Reasoning (read a 4-5 line passage then answer 1-2 questions on it, i.e. what is the flaw in this argument? -- there will be 2 sections of A.R. on your test which count) and Logic Games (a brief set-up followed by 5 questions, i.e. ABCDEF are six people in line, A is not after B, C is not last, where is F?).
