I'm tired of leagues where there are multiple managers that just give up or didn't bother with their team to begin with...they hog good players and let them rot, mess up standings by not offering a challenge, etc..
I've created an invitation-only league and the plan is to get a small number of managers where everyone will be active all season long. The max number of teams will be 8, and I might settle for 6 if the involved managers agree on it and to offset that, the draft will be incredibly deep (probably 20 ACTIVE players per team).
I could easily PM some people from last year's league or other sports leagues but I've noticed some discrepancies (i.e. active in this league, not in another) which is why I didn't just PM the top finishers from last year.
There are at most 4 spots open so if you'd like in, either PM me or post here and I guess "prove" yourself to be someone that's not going to quit halfway. I know all this seems anal and stuff but I just want to have a competitive league for once that can truly gauge how well we all "play". And since there's no way for me to "punish" people that let their team die, I have to be picky BEFORE the league starts.

It's H2H because that's pretty much what I've been playing all along although I've done a few rot here and there (never finishing better than 3rd...very poor use of 'games' available)
If the majority wants roto, then that can be arranged (I think). Otherwise it's h2h.

Ah, I won't join if it's H2H for I'm just not able to put in the time needed , which would'nt be fair to the other managers. (plus I find that H2h you can do well just by churning your roster rather than strategically building a team).
If we decide it's roto, count me in.

I lov ehow Yahoo lowballed Magloire, he is an all-star C.
Off the top of my head I drafted in this order:
1. LeBron James
2. Ray Allen
3. Chris Bosh
4. Jason Terry
5. Marcus Camby
6. Samuel Dalembert
7. Jamaal Magloire
8. Jamaal Tinsley
9. Marquis Daniels
10. Caron Butler
11. Joe Smith
...Sorry can't remember the rest, but that is a monster team. I like what I did with picks 5,6,7 and put a big run on C's, there are people in my league now who are VERY thin up the middle while I am three deep with great blocking C's. If Bosh can get his C eligability I will trade Camby in a package for a star PF...

It originally was for the weekend..unfortunately there have been at least 3 people against it which is why I moved it. Sorry, but I have to accomodate as many people as I can. Hopefully everyone who was fine with Wed at 9 is OK with Tues at 7:30.
As it stands, Tues 7:30 is good for me, Hurk, rdtx (any date), Jeff146 (any date but Wed), ming (presumably, since he said no friday/weekend)
Wed 9:00 was good for afong, gsrr

This is a reminder that the season starts tonight so set your rosters (not just this league, ALL leagues you're in).
This league WAS supposed to be competitive but from what I saw at the draft...
Anyways, if I notice a manager neglecting his team for an extended period of time for no reason, I'm going to effectively take over it (i.e. setting the roster, making moves) and locking the manager. I'll do it fairly and to the best of my ability (not gonna bench everyone if the team plays my team).

I know we're all busy and I don't expect you to devote as much time as I do but if you have 10 min free one day, you can set your lineup for an entire week. Obviously it's best to keep on top of things everyday but even the minmum of playing as many of your best players every day as possible is good. We've each got so many players, I think it's near impossible to calculate sitting players out to win FG%, FT% and TO unless it's near the end of the week and you're also comfortably ahead in the "pad" stat categories.

Yahoo's got a "fantasy profile" thingy like sportingnews now. Fun stuff...get to see how you and other people are doing/have done with trophies and stuff, gives you rankings, etc..
In the football leagues if you click someone's team, there's a link that takes you to the profiles (i.e. mine is penny_apu) but it's not there in the hockey/basketball ones right now. But you can look at your own or others by using http://profiles.sports.yahoo.com/*yourusernamehere* <-- Username, not team name. So mine would be http://profiles.sports.yahoo.com/penny_apu
Guess I better stop messing around with games that I don't know/pay attention in (golf, NCAA) because it's ruining my overall performance!
Also useful for picking managers next year.....not gonna invite anyone who ALWAYS finishes in the bottom half.

wow, I am getting absolutely murdered in Hurk's league. I knew my team would have problems scoring, but I didn't think it'd do that badly. My three best scorers (T-Mac, Hughes, Maggette), have been either playing poorly or hurt. But still, I thought I'd be able to grab at least rebound, steals, blocks, and possibly TO's every week.
Damn...
on the other hand, I am somehow in first in the Sportingnews thing. Which is definitely a surprise since that requires more constant monitoring, and I haven't touched either the Yahoo thing or the Sportingnews thing in two weeks cause of exams.

I am actually 5-5 this week, which is kinda surprising. I am being outscored badly though, and still losing in 3PM eventhough T-mac hit 6 in a game, and Duhon hit 6 in a game. Just some really bad late round picks and moves by me I think. Trading J. Crawford for Alston was a dud. Alston sucked and now he's injured. Although I did pick up Duhon to make up for that.
Also, keeping Felton over Mo Williams has turned out to be a mistake. But Mo didn't get that much burn the first week of the season, and now he's average 14.5/4/3...grr
The only plus is that I am owning everyone I've matched up against in blocks, haha.

what do you guys think?
Reject that I think
Shaq is a horrible FT guy plus injury risk. Wade is good but turns over a lot, and Hughes shoots a bad % most of the time
Miller gives you assists with a good FT%, Bosh is a boards and FT% monster (plus C eligable in Yahoo) and Lamar Odom is one of the better tripple double threats out there.

yeah, i did reject it--told him that bosh was not available.
he came back with the following:
i get--shaq, wade, hughes
i give--miller, odom, ridnour
i know your assessments are accurate, but with this version, i think it might work a bit better, since i'm fairly deep at pg with stoudamire and smush parker back there (and wade, if i pull the trigger)
i'm thinking of okaying this one. . .

i wouldnt call stoudamire and parker pg's... ridnour will give you solid assists per night and giving him up may be costly.
shaq has a low shooting percentage and his health is a concern. hughes is obviously not in his same form as last year since he is beside a huge cast and wade will give you whatever less than what you are offering.

I'd just like to point of my struggles in this league for my team.
Draft Busts.
Pick #3 = Stephon Marbury (BUST! Damn you Larry Brown! He is starting to play better though)
Pick #4 = Ron Artest (Not really a bust, but why the drama? Hurry up and join another team!)
Pick #7 = Josh Howard (Only played in 22 games due to injuries and such. Not doing as well as predicted)
Pick #8 = Damon Stoudamire (Even when he was healthy, he wasn't putting up ANY numbers. Now basically injured for the season)
Pick #9 = Josh Smith (Do I even need to say anything?!)
The rest of my picks.
Stromile Swift - Cut
Jamaal Magloire - Not doing well, at all.
Eddie Curry - Inconsistent at best. Injury prone
Rafer Alston - Cut - HAHA, what was I thinking?
Joel Przybilla - Cut
Vlad Radmanovic - Cut
Mike Sweetney - Cut
Nenad Krstic - Cut
Danny Granger - Cut
JR Smith - Cut
Chucky Atkins - Cut
Zaza Pachulia - Cut
Matt Harping - Cut
I realize that some of the Centers I cut were good for some things, but they weren't worth it IMHO. In other news, I'm first in the other league, and third in my random public league of 10 teams.
