Looking to purchase a treadmill. A fold-up type with a comfortable pad and a quiet motor. Any suggestions out there? Looking to spend in the under $1000 range. No clue what to watch out for in the marketplace. Any help appreciated.

In the under $1000 range you will be hard pressed to find a good treadmill unless you plan on only using it for walking.

1. You need to watch out for cheaply built machines - mainly treadmills built overseas.

2. You should try the machine out for at least 15 minutes to see how it feels to you.

3. I would highly recomend you go to a specialty store like fitnessdepot(sales staff work on commision) or treadmill factory (I believe they are non-commisioned sales staff) and speak to a knowledgeable sales person.

4. ..then check out the machines at the department stores

You will need to do your research but you will find that only Pacemaster and Precor are 100% made in USA. I researched my purchase for almost 1 year before deciding on a Pacemaster Bronze - it met my needs and was built in the USA.

Pacemaster Bronze is not a type of treadmill. Pacemaster is the manufacturer and Bronze is the model. In Canada, you can only purchase Pacemaster at fitnessdeopt

Ended up buying a Reebok 3500C from Cdn. Tire on sale for $999 Regular $1599. 2.0 hp continuous duty - 20X60 track - 12mph 10% incline. By far the best deal in the market at the time.

At 2 hp continuous duty, it'll be fine. Look into getting a maintenance contract. They're not that expensive and treadmills should be tuned once a year for the belt slipping, etc.
