The shirts are streamlined in a continued effort to reduce the amount of net they cover, and maybe even more significantly, they are different in colour and pattern like goalkeeper jerseys in soccer and would not match the rest of the team.

Being a soccer guy all my life, I kinda like this idea. I'm sure a lot of people will beg to differ.

I think they've changed enough already in the game.

They're going a bit too gung ho on trying to change the game. Why don't they wait and see what the current changes fair before they start throwing in more changes.

And I really don't see the point in making the jerseys look diferently like in soccer.

Anything that brings in more cash into the game is fine with me...

The NHL is desperate and this will get more people talking.

This is purely business, nothing more, nothing less. MOre jerseys out there, more ways for them to make money. That's all. Just that I personally like this idea... partly because I'm a keeper. :cheesygri

Juding on the picture, it doesn't seem like they are having an entirely new re-design, or a fluoresence yellow shirts like soccer keepers. It's just a small tweaking of the design from the look of it.

I think its a stupid idea.. I agree with the whole equipment reg's, but not this one..It makes no sense if they are trying to win back fans. This also wont attract any more u.s fans most people in the u.s could give two sh**s sbout soccer jerseys and soccer players in the first place.

It's plain stupid! The goalie is on the same TEAM and should be wearing the TEAM jersey. Who's coming up with these DUMB ideas?

Why should the goalies have all the fun? Let's make the defensemen wear different colours too. While we are at it, left and right wingers should also wear different colours so casual fans can tell them apart. Hey, the center will feel left out so he should wear different colours too. By the time the puck drops on Oct 5th, we will have 10 players and 2 goalies on the ice all with different coloured jerseys. The marketing potential is unlimited. [/sarcasm]

Dumb idea, but it doesn't really surprise me. It seems like almost every idea aimed at increasing goal production is beneficial to the players, but detrimental to the way goalies play the game.

Because, just like in soccer, when they wear the same jersey, who can even tell it's the goalie? They look like every other player in the game, providing those other players are ALSO wearing enormous pads, freakishly big sticks, odd gloves, and a totally different helmet than everyone else.

The reason for the soccer jersey is so that you can easily see who is allowed to use their hands....wtf is the reason for this?

Well, the goalie equipment is much smaller this year.

Who can tell it's the goalie? Give me a break! The goalie wears goalie equipment and carries a big stick. It doesn't take much to figure out who's the goalie - he's also the one between the pipes.
Sheesh!

HahA! The mask is usually a dead giveaway too.

Next year, just wait and see: They're going to find some other stupid way to treat goalies like second class citizens of the game. Plastering corporate advertising on the goalies was suggested even for this year, as if goalies don't have enough logos on their equipment...I hope they nix that lame idea. Bigger nets, smaller sticks, smaller crease area, or whatever...they'll find some way to screw the goalie to squeeze as much offense as they can, and they won't be satisfied until an NHL score is looking more like an NBA score.
