Need Tires!!

Anyone know of anyplace in GTA (or west of) that has decent prices or that will pricematch 1010tires.com

I may be considering Goodyear TripleTred, Michelin HydroEdge, or Bridgestone Turanza EL400's

Best prices for Michelin I found was Sam's Club. Membership is $40 and the savings on the tires makes up for it. Also, if you change your mind, you can cancel your membership and get your $40 back.

For Goodyear tires, I found http://www.bramaleatire.com/ gives good deals. Just call them since the phone prices are a bit cheaper at times then the web site. Also, the prices are FLEXABLE so you can ask for a deal.

I have a set of Michelin Harmonys on my Buick and they are great in the Winter and excellent for wet weather and dead quiet. I took them over the Hydroedge, since this tires tread pattern is useless in winter. Tight tire tread design makes snow/slush driving downright scary.

What year/make/model is the car you are getting the tires on?

going on a volvo s40 ...replacing my Turanza's ...the tire wear on those is terrible, but they are solid, perhaps a bit noisy.

I'd give Steelcase Tires N Mags a call (north toronto - Steeles and Woodbine) for good pricing and knowledgeable guys there. I wanted Michelin Pilots A/S (based only on what I had read on 1010tires) but they still provided 2 alternative suggestions to consider based on my driving habits. Not that they weren't happy to sell me the Michelins either, but it was good to see some real customer service and thinking about customer needs first.

My second choice would be Active Green + Ross. I think the prices were close, but you also do get free rotation.

HAHA.. funny you suggest Steelcase, I was there yesterday talking to Jim about Winter tires. Steelcase number is 905-479-8884 or 416-492-9992.

They sell the Yokohama tire line among others.

For your S40, I would go with the Michelin Harmonys as they will give you a really smooth quiet ride and great snow/wet traction for a all season tire. The Goodyear Tripletred might offer better winter grip but I hear it is a firmer riding tire so you would feel more expansion joints and potholes then with the Michelins.

I got my Michelin Energy MXV4+ tires from Green and Ross (note: Avoid the Energy MXV4 +, as the only decent thing on them is that they are smooth and quiet, but are junk in rains). I had originally bought some sears brand tires and they had buldges in it and then got these instead. Green and Ross offers a 30 day trial so if you try something and not like it, you can change it.

One thing I found is that some tire stores don't calibrate their balancers correctly so there is still some vibration. Steelcase, and Sam's Club balancers are better calibrated and they *HAND TORQUE* the wheel nuts to spec so it does not warp the rims or rotors.

I own a set of Nokian Hakka 1's for my 2002 Camry LE V6. I would suggest going with the Nokian RSi and they are sold at Steelcase Tires.

My car came with the Harmony's and are why I'm not buying Michelin's ever again ...after sliding right through an intersection in 'light snow' ...and making a 10kms left turn sideways into a snowbank. ...they are quiet and smooth, but really suck badly in snow.

...I have Turanza's on it now, but, the wear on those things is incredible ...pretty good in snow, but I don't want a tire that is only good for 40k

...steelcase is okay, bought some rims there ages ago at a really nice price, but, their are better prices to be had for tires.

Here is another favourable post for Steelecase Tires. I was treated really well there, no extra charge to rotate tires or reverse one to face in.

They gave me choices, recommended I not spend top dollar on the Michelin's, and sold me the Yokohamas, which should last the remaining life of the car.

You have to love a place that costs less, gives better service, and treats you well enough to get you back--when you get another car with worn tires, since the tires they *sold* you are rated for the rest of the life of your car.
