My friend gave me his PVC-RS712 computer because he wanted me to re-install the operating system and clean everything up. He unfortunately does not have the disks that have the drivers for his hardware on them. I have found most of what I need to find myself...but in the device manager I am still missing the Multimedia Audio Controller under the Sounds, video and game controllers. Using XP to update the driver does nothing for me because it can't find anything.
I downloaded a program to tell me what hardware was in my computer (Everest home edition) and it told me there was a Intel 82801EB ICH5-AC'97 in the computer. So I looked for a driver for the AC'97. When I searched for the AC'97, realteks website was first on the search list. I downloaded some codec/driver pack from them and put it on the computer. As soon as the progress bar finished on the installation the computer restarted. Upon restart I checked the device manager and found the controller was still not installed. In some forums I found that people tried to direct XP to the file where XP placed the unziped realtek information. So I did that...the same shut down thing happened and there was still no controller for the sound.
At this point I don't know what to do. I'm pretty frustrated that I can't get this computer finished and Sony's support has been no help. They just tell me to order another installation CD.
So if anyone knows anything please help me. Thanks.
