Apparently there's some sort of dog virus going around :|

Only in US right now and with Greyhounds they used for racing. Canada is keeping a close eye but nothing to worry about.

There have been no cases in Canada yet.
It's fatal in 5-8% of cases.

I'd say the risks are pretty low. It's safe to walk your dog, and this is coming from someone who is an avid dog lover! My dog is like a member of my family.

wouldn't a dog get very sad when he/she isn't taken out for a walk?

not necessarily, i don't always walk my dogs but i do let them outside to play in the backyard everyday...as long as there's some interaction and play time set aside for them i think they're happy...my dogs don't act sad when they're not taken for a walk...but then again who knows...

Also depends on the type of dog.

I have a Husky, so if she doesn't get out to run on a regular basis, she gets depressed, literally. Huskies absolutely need to run, not just roam around a backyard, so yes, virus or not, my do will continue to get walked outside.
