Hi guys, Do you think it's possible to use a non-powered USB Hub to connect to a power hungry USB device by drawing juice from the computer power supply?? The reason i am asking is that I run out of USB ports and I am looking to use a hub to connect to several USB devices like USB wireless, USB bluetooth and USB IR receiver simultaneouly. I know a powered hub or a internal PCI USB card will do the trick. however i would like to avoid another power supply and there is no more available PCI slots. I am thinking of using the computer power supply to power a non-powered hub. Is that feasible?
I tried to google it but no luck.
any input will be appreciated.

So you'd like to run 5V cabling from inside your PC to an external hub that has no built-in means of accepting power? This, while interesting, does not seem like such a hot solution to me. I think having an external PSU for a powered hub is going to be way more manageable than this mess of wiring.

factory direct had "saitek selfpowered hi-speed usb hub 2.0 " for 13.99 $ a while back and i picked one up .

now if u did want to tinker with a selfpowered hub and run it off your computer PSU its possible as long as u work out the ammount of voltage and current that it might need.

now the product i mentioned takes 5 v dc in and need 2500 ma's of current with 12.5 watts MAx .

so technically u can hardwire it to your 5 volt line but it would take some electronic knowhow and even maybe a ciruit to make sure that the 5 v line is sending as much power as it truly needs.

i suggest going the easy way buying a powered hub and just pluging it in instead of taking it apart .
