Does anyone know of this song from around 1989-1992?
I remember hearing it on CFTR or CHUM FM or CFNY back then.

Here are some of the lyrics:
--------------------------
Lola hey-o-hey-ey
You've taken my freedom away
Lola hey-o-hey-ey
You don't understand what you're making me say
--------------------------

It's not much to go on, but the singer sounds like Phil Collins sped up a bit - it has a really fast beat - almost like a techno beat.

If anyone can help, thanks.

Just a guess. It could be Rick Ashely - Never gonna give it up

Definitely not Rick Astley. I have a feeling your'e not quite hearing the lyrics right, since the only google that comes up is another one of your posts on another forum, Gordon S. aka crashnburn aka gordholio :)

That is a great idea! I have a microphone with a headset. I don't know about the quality, but I'll try to see what I can do.

Lola, by the Kinks

I met her in a club down in old soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola [lp version:
Coca-cola]
C-o-l-a cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said lola
L-o-l-a lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Well I’m not the world’s most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Well I’m not dumb but I can’t understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said dear boy won’t you come home with me
Well I’m not the world’s most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me

Well that’s the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It’s a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Well I left home just a week before
And I’d never ever kissed a woman before
But lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy I’m gonna make you a man

Well I’m not the world’s most masculine man
But I know what I am and I’m glad I’m a man
And so is lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Yoda - Weird Al

me!
Sep 26th, 2005, 05:02 PM
lyrics for "yoda" from weird al

I met him in a swamp down in Dagoba
Where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda
S O D A, soda

I saw the little runt sitting there on a log
I asked him his name and in a raspy voice he said "Yoda"
Y O D A, Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I've been around, but I ain't never seen
A guy who looks like a muppet, but he's wrinkled and green
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I'm not dumb, but I can't understand
How he can lift me in the air just by raising his hand
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I left home just a week before
And I've never ever been a Jedi before
But Obi Wan, he set me straight, of course
He said, "Go to Yoda and he'll show you the Force"

Well I'm not the kind that would argue with Ben
So it looks like I'm gonna start all over again
With my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

So I used the Force
I picked up a box
I lifted some rocks
While I stood on my head
Well, I won't forget what Yoda said

He said, "Luke, stay away from the darker side
And if you start to go astray, let the Force be your guide"
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

"I know Darth Vader's really got you annoyed
But remember, if you kill him, then you'll be unemployed"
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I heard my friends really got in a mess
So I'm gonna have to leave Yoda, I guess
But I know that I'll be coming back some day
I'll be playing this part 'till I'm old and gray

The long-term contract that I had to sign
Says I'll be making these movies till the end of time
With my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

If you want to listen to the clip, search for "Gord Collins sample" on Limewire or eDonkey (and eMule).
It's a wav file. "Gord Collins sample.wav".
*Note: I used a pretty cheap microphone on a headset.
Don't know if this is the only way I can get this to people though.

Cool of you to record that. Funny thing is now that I hear it it does sound familiar but I can't put my finger on it either.

You do make it sound like a Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins type song. A techno beat also fits with either of these artists around 1990.

I know for a fact that it's neither Phil Collins nor Peter Gabriel. It's an obscure song that I heard on the radio in around 1989 and it was only played for a few months or so. I don't think it ever became a hit and I've searched the web many hours trying to find this song because I really like it.
I thought I heard the name of the band as something like Tico or Pico, but I'm not sure.

Steely Dan

DR WU

Katy tried
I was halfway crucified
I was on the other side
Of no tomorrow
You walked in
And my life began again
Just when I'd spent the last piaster
I could borrow
All night long
We would sing that stupid song
And every word we sang
I knew was true
Are you with me Doctor Wu
Are you really just a shadow
Of the man that I once knew
Are you crazy are you high
Or just an ordinary guy
Have you done all you can do
Are you with me Doctor

Don't seem right
I've been strung out here all night
I've been waiting for the taste
You said you'd bring to me
Biscayne Bay
Where the Cuban gentlemen sleep all day
I went searching for the song
You used to sing to me
Katy lies
You could see it in her eyes
But imagine my surprise
When I saw you

Are you with me Doctor Wu
Are you really just a shadow
Of the man that I once knew
She is lovely yes she's sly
And you're an ordinary guy
Has she finally got to you
Can you hear me Doctor

The song is not done by a famous group or singer. I think it was a one hit wonder and it really wasn't a hit, just played for a few months a bit.
It sort of had the tempo of the Phil Collins' song, Sussudio, but it's not done by him nor by Genesis or anyone that you would normally recognize.
I know it's like a needle in a haystack to find out the name of this song, but I'm still hoping someone will know it.

That's interesting - same post! Isn't it getting frustrating to find out the name of this song (and group)?
I've been looking sporadically for about 2 years now, but this is the first time that I have posted a vocal rendition of part of the song.

*Note: I just sent an email to DJ, Roger Ashby at CHUM-FM to see if he can help .

No, it's not by Toto. As I said, it's by a very obscure band - pretty much an unknown band as we can see here.
