hi all,
I've recently switched to zonealarm pro 6 and having trouble...
I was used to dialogs where ZA would ask me to block an application from the net, but with the newer version, there are plenty of dialogs coming up, related to when applications communicate together. For example, I close outlook, ZA pops up and asks me if Outlook can communicate with explorer to be closed.
Any way to disable those kinds of popups? I've searched but couldn't find an answer...
thanks
marc

This new feature was meant to prevent spyware. It is called OS firewall. I too HATE it with passion.
Any program that monitor keyboard (some games use this), trys to open another program, etc.. will get the alert. (These are features most spyware will use - like hijacking other programs etc...)
The only way is get rid of it is to disable program control. BUT the problem with that is you ALSO disable the alert to say Yes or No to access the internet (so if you have programs that phone home you will automatically give them access to the internet without you knowing).
I asked numerous times (I was in the beta of ZA) to separate the OS Firewall with the program control but they keep giving me the shrug off.
What is worse is I am a programmer! At times I need to use those features and ZA will think it is spyware when I make some of my programs.
My suggestion is to go back to an only version of ZA. And send them emails to separate their OS firewall from the program control.

i recommend going back to 5.5. I had nothing but problems with 6. Couldn't connect to websites, those irritating popups, the list can go on.
It felt very intrusive as well, the way it monitored everything. I understand the need to (I am in IT Security) but I don't think it is doing it the right way. It automatically assumes some apps are fine and doesn't worry about it, but other's get the suspicious treatment. Inconsistent.

They have also removed a few features from the free one, such as "lock host file". I found another free utility that does it, but it's frustrating when they start removing features to push you over to the paid version.
