I was doing some research on a company and came across this (in Coquitlam):

I went to one a number of years ago in Toronto (starburst or something like that) and I still think they run regular auctions. I ended up buying a Street Figher machine that I hardly ever used (I think I should have bought a system with a standard case instead of the huge oversized one!)... anyway, I need to get around to replacing some buttons on it and fixing it up a bit.

Anyone else ever buy an arcade machine or go to the auctions?

EDIT: See my last post for details on GTA location this saturday October 1st

i used to and it was a fun experience. most set up weren't in great condition but you can order replacement decal & buttons from the manufacturer or eBay. i believe the leasing company's service department was also willing to help (original street fighter required new punch pads). if you have access to a carpenter & electrician then these deals can't be beat. i know the guys at *the forum that can't be named* attend the auctions regularly.

i would love to grab a galaga (sit down model) or a Virtual Fighter 3 (full sized competition model -- those are so rare and SOOOO big!). i'm often surprised at the range of prices though. a few can be had for just a couple hundred buck while other command premium prices above their street price. i admit it would also be cool to put a House of the Dead unit in my family room.

I have always wanted an old fashion PINBALL and PACMAN...nostalgia.

I still remember the PINBALL players twisting and grinding those machines......doing everything to avoid a 'tilt'

Are there any auctions like this in the GTA or surrounding area?

I'll be interested in attending this one, but the shipping will be a killer for me. :D

This is the place I was talking about in my first post : http://www.starburstcoin.com/main.php

I think they ran the auction I went to many years ago... this winter I will hopefully get around to fixing my machine up!

EDIT: OK... Just called because I was curious. They have an auction this saturday at the Kipling location.

$200 for a bidding card (cash only). YOu will get it back if you don't buy anything.

They suggest to bring an extension cord (I remember going down the street to buy one a few years back! so, bring one so you can hook up the machiens and test them out).

Viewing from 9:30 to 11:30... auction starts at roughly 11:30.. if anyone goes, please post your findings!

Sounds like fun, if you have the space.

Personally if I had the space and the money to burn I'd want a modern pinball machine rather than a videogame. I think the pinball machine would have more lasting appeal for me. Pinball machines age much better than the videogames as far as I'm concerned.
