Both use the same magnets/drivers from what I know, so sound quality wise they should be very similar if not identical.

NX1 has better cable sheath but I personally prefer the look of the EX71 a lot better. The chrome plated accents on the 71s look much more classier, and if you are using a white iPod or PSP (with the remote), the white EX71 is the only way to go - again IMO since you asked. OTOH, the neckstrap on the NX1 is great for joggers, but not for me.

That's correct. That's what 'SL' means - short cable + long cable (with the supplied extension cord). You get the best of both worlds. If you have a remote, a long cord gets in the way so you really want a short cord. If you don't have or don't want to use the remote, plug in the extension cord and you have a regular full length cord.
