Yep, that's what it said in the newspaper. Pretty lame, but still better than Tommy Hilfiger's "you're out of style".

Not bad. I liked the show. I think the right guy got fired. Jim was annoying as heck, but Jeff just came off as a total prick. What was with her letter to him as the end? "You didn't fail, you just didn't fully succeed." Wow, talk about rubbing salt into his wound. I'll definitely watch next week.

I'd prefer Martha was alot more mean, she seems way too nice in this, she's shaking hands, writing letters to people after she fires them?
I guess she took all the bad press about her being a total b*tch of a boss to heart, and wants to use this show to dispel those rumors.
She just needs to take more control of the boardroom and be a hardass ala Trump for my tastes, oh well.
I like Jim, I know he's an ass, but hey that's why they casted him on the show, to spice things up and cause drama, cause the rest of them seem kinda boring...but its just the first episode though.

I agree, she should toughen up a bit. I guess people haven't given her a reason to bring out the biatch in her yet. I say give it another episode or two when everyone's more relaxed and their true nature comes out.
One more thing, wasn't her daughter completely useless or what? She didn't have one insightful line to add during the entire show besides nodding and smiling.

Yeah.. I thought it was a bit dull and Martha seemed too guarded. She wasn't natural (neither nasty or overly friendly). The boardroom (ahem.. "conference" room scene) was a sleeper. BUT the right guy got the boot. He was a total a--hole.

The theme music sucks. It's not a bad song, it's just not a good theme song.. not powerful enough. Neither is Martha.. ".. this is one of our conference rooms.. where one of you will be asked to leave", "ask you to leave", "please leave". Put your foot down woman! Be fierce! No need to be nice about it - she can be nice the rest of the time, but in the conference room, bite their heads off!
Martha comes across as 'fake', and the George-lookalike comes across as a Trump-wannabe with his little comments.
I'm not liking this show.. maybe it was aimed at girls only?

I agree with all comments above... except the theme music. I thought that was clever. It's a catchy song coming from the 80's (Eurythmics - Annie Lennox) when Martha was climbing the ladder and the play on the nature of her business "Sweet" was very appropriate. That's the best thing about the show. To me and the folks I was watching the show with, the opening & music were pretty enjoyable... too bad the rest of the episode was so stiff...

I was very ready to hate the The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, but ended up liking it because it was different from the Donald.
I also agree the right guy got fired. What a tyrant. I sure wouldn't want to work for someone who tells me to shut up. Very unprofessional.
Did anyone find the George look-a-like a joke, holding the cigar everywhere he went?

Sep 26th, 2005, 02:24 PM
I find George look-a-like was funny with his unlite cigar, it's so 70s - 80s. :D
Somebody please help him lite his cigar!!! He hasn't lite for an hour of the show.
I guess Martha vs. Donald, they tried to have a diff spin on the show:
Conference Room (weak) vs. Board Room
Wired phone vs. hand-free speaker phone
don't fit vs. you're fired
farewell reference letter (too weak - like Final Thought) vs. ???
I guess the producer don't want to have a strong bossy Martha's image for now. IF you notice Martha smile more than Caroline.
I hope there are more surprises coming from Martha

Ok, how useless is her daughter Alexis? She was completely mute the entire episode except for the occasional nod and "I agree". As for fake-George, they should either let him light his cigar, or make him throw the stupid thing away.
On an unrelated topic, Martha's bitchiness is coming along quite nicely. She said some pretty stern words to those three in the conference room. Now, I'm just waiting for her to make someone cry, then I'll be a loyal viewer for the rest of the season.
When she fired the project leader on last night's episode, it was blatantly obvious that they were just trying to keep the two nutjobs Jim and Dawn to help with the show's ratings. They deserved to be fired so much more than what's-his-face, but didn't. Until a new idiot emerges, I think those two will be safe for a while.
slothy@cutey
Sep 29th, 2005, 04:12 PM
Finally... it's getting better. I think the strength of this show is directly related to how much air time they give Martha on the show. The conference room scenes are really what we all want to see.
The chair of MSLO recently said that having a nastier Martha wasn't in the best interest of the show and wouldn't be an accurate reflection of how Martha is (yeah right). This was in response to criticism that the show is too cautious and keeps Martha muzzled.
But give it a few more episodes. Martha can't help who she really is. I think her little speech on being a "quiter" is something she's never done actually quite inspirational... especially when she referred to the difficulty in having to go to jail and of couse when she admonished what's-her-name with "Women in business DON'T cry." Good job Martha!
Finally, I'm starting to turn on the idea of her righting a good-bye letter. First I thought it was really cheezy and a bit too contrived. BUT, the more I think about it, the more I can accept it as the "true" Martha. Afterall, she's not Donald Trump, and writing a personal note on fine stationery is something so befitting of what you'd expect from Martha. I have to say it's in keeping with her/persona etc.
Chuck was a moron, but the other two are way too transparent to survive. We have a hyperactive know-it-all who thinks his cleverness and strategy planning is so well-hidden beyond anyone's comprehension, and then the lazy whiner who seems to complain about everything and everyone... strangely reminiscent of Omarosa... they're time will be up shortly...

I didn't noticed the cigar thing before (kind of had it on in the background for the first episode)... but, yeah, really funny looking! Especially nowadays with the strict No Smoking rules in most of North America!

Last night's show was ok. Quite instructive and the 'I don't want quitters' monologue went over quite well. She's still too aware of the camera. Get rid of the cigar from the George-lookalike. Her daughter doesn't fit in. (Let's hear it for nepotism.)

What's the point of the PM picking people to come in anymore, if she can just veto any decision??
Sure that Shawn girl made dumb comment after dumb comment, but this same week Trump fired Chris for not bringing in the people who were blame for the loss, while David did the same thing in Martha's show and he stays...

That was pretty pointless bringing them all back just to tell them that it's the salespeople's fault their loss. She could have told them that when the entire team was there.
I agree with the firing though. That Shauna girl was a moron for making that statement, and digging herself into a bigger hole with that "fake it 'till you make it" line.
That was one fugly cake btw. It was lop-sided with pink bows. How tacky can you get? What were they thinking?
On the other team, the way Howie screamed at that girl was priceless. You could tell he was ready to strangle her.

Martha should have fired the cake designer or the project manager.

Martha should have fired the cake designer or the project manager.
I agree with canning the cake designer but not the PM. The problem is that they are on a time limit and the project manager has the project chosen for him. He did a good job by finding out his strengths on his team and letting them do their job. He was sunk by his team on a task that he admittedly didn't know much about.
It'd be like telling Martha to be a PM on a task to design a new ultimate gaming computer in three days and giving her people who claim to be computer nerds. You know she'd use those nerds to build the thing and when the product came out poorly, giving her no time to find someone else, she'd be just as stuck.
I think the PM *could* be faulted by not taking over on sales and doing better or not bringing in the proper people to be fired, but I think he did a good job at creating a good atmosphere and smooth teamwork on a previously dysfunctional team.

Pretty good editing job on the last auction. The final number wasn't even close but the editing made it a nail-biter.

Nah Martha's show has been tanking all season, it's the "over exposure" from the two shows + a DULL cast, save Jim + Martha's ho hum boardrooms that's been killing them.

Trump used to rake in 14 million viewers (as per Nielsons), but has dropped to around 10 million... while Martha started at over 7 million... down to around 6 million now which is why they're pulling the plug. Trump is complaining that his "drop" from 14 to 10 million has to do with Martha pulling him down...

Well that finale was pretty dull, as was the season, so instead I'll mention this, since its more interesting.
Martha Stewart "Apprentice" Stripped in "R-rated movies
Long before ex-con Martha Stewart shed her electronic anklet, one of the most controversial of her "Apprentice" contestants was doing a little stripping of her own.
Bethenny Frankel — who dated the son of one the reality show's judges — starred in the 1994 flick "Hollywood Hills 90028" as a bisexual serial killer at Hollywood High who romps topless at the drop of a hat.
One scene finds the bodacious beauty, then 23, rubbing suntan oil on a female classmate before engaging in a steamy lip-lock.
Another scene leaves little to the imagination as she makes love to a nerdy male classmate on a mirrored waterbed.
Although the R-rated feature is billed as a thriller, it bears all the hallmarks of soft-core porn, complete with atrocious lighting and sound.
At one point, a hunky classmate congratulates Frankel on her ability to simulate a certain sex act using a banana; she replies: "Tune in tomorrow when I do intercourse using a carrot and a doughnut."
Frankel's only other big-screen appearance was a bit part in "Wish Me Luck."
The 1995 teen flick tells the story of "a genie sent to a junior college to turn a nerd into a man."
Funny, no mention of this on the NBC website lol
Surprised she'd be in something like this, frankly she looks alot like a female version of Quagmire from Family Guy.

What are you talking about, that finale was stupid. I mean, obviously bethanny was a complete ******. Dawna combined experience and management, she was a great leader and almost never got in any trouble. Bethanny would always get in trouble and be near expulsion. Nobody wanted to be in her group. It was predictable that no matter what, Dawna would be chosen. What kind of ****** would employ bethanny???????
