this was discussed a while ago. some say it was the "magic carpet" that had something to do with the ever changing mystery of LOST.
Others had said their were more theories to be had on the official LOST discussion group.
But everyone essentially decided not to make any definitive answers to what it was and no real or credible explanation was really given.

Those people are also running before the explosion happened . . . but that could just be a tv production thing.

It's a bird, a plane...no it's a magic carpet!

They were running because that turbine (?) starting spinning IIRC. That 'magic carpet' is weird, first time I've heard of this.
Another 'myth' thing about LOST, a bit of spoiler to those who haven't seen late into the first season:
When Boone is in the abandoned airplane, he uses the radio to call for help. After he says "We're the survivors of the Oceanic Flight 811", there has been some debate about what the radio said back before the plane fell down. Some people heard the radio reply: "There are no survivors of the Oceanic Flight 811!". The official DVD has the subtitles as: "We're the survivors of Oceanic Flight 811!".
Just another tidbit thrown into the mysterious mix. 24 hours left until premiere!!! :D

could someone check this, because i can remember clearly hearing "there are no survivors". but "We're the survivors of Oceanic Flight 811!" sounds more intresting and realistic (from what i've heard about season 2).

Wow, I had never noticed this either! It's actually the first time I even hear of it even though I followed the threads on dvdtalk all season last year.
As for the plane and Boone, I also heard 'There are no survivors...' which seems to be more likely than 'We're the survivors...' as why would the survivors still be on the radio (unless they are still stranded as well and it's a time shifting paradox  )

Spoiler
Actually "We're the survivors of Oceanic Flight 811!" makes sense, because he's probably talking to the survivours from the tail section on the radio, which are rumoured to appear in the 2nd season.

^ I think the cast/crew have already stated that the above will be happening.

Well with what I saw tonight in premiere, it looks like more and more likely that something like that is going to happen. I'm gonna discuss it more in the season 2 thread.
