the micro comes with a bulit in headphone jack, the sp i think you have to buy an attachment. also the micro you can change face plates.

Waste of money imo. Stick with a GBA SP. Clam shell design protects the larger screen.

ya the micro doesent have anything to protect the screen. for me the screen condition of a handheld console is a big concern. will micro make some sort of protective case so the screen doesent get scatched? they better

get the SP...
you save some money, and it can play GB games as well.
I thought that the Micro had less battery life than the SP?

The Micro has a smaller screen too. I have an SP, and don't plan on getting a Micro. It's a bit too small. hehe.

isn't the screen better on the micro? not considering the size

i'd go with the micro, i like the design of the sp but the screen is dull and washed out .... also the micro uses faceplates so if the screen gets scratched u can just get a new one. i think they are including 3 faceplates with them

anyone know how much used sp's are worth at EB?
thedon
Sep 18th, 2005, 11:44 PM
not sure but u can trade it in plus 2 games and $60 for a micro right now... seems like an ok deal since most people sell used sp's for less than $50

Yes, as mentioned only Gameboy Advance games. No original gameboy, gameboy colour, DS, etc.

I'd go with a GBA SP, had one for almost two years now, buy a flash catridge off the net, find a torrent with 1500 gba roms, and you're all set for a very long time. :)

Anybody know if the current flash carts are compatible with the new Gameboy Micro? And also if you can run old GB and GBC games off the flash cart assuming the flash cart works on the Micro?

even the GB & GBC games need an adapter to run on a flash cart w/ the original GBA/SP, so I wouldn't get my hopes up

Well, my lust of the micro has gone completely away thanks to the BACKLIT GBA SP's that Nintendo is already putting out on shelves. the screen is supposed to be comparable to the PSPs. I'll be picking one up next week as I doubt I can stand the micro's tiny tiny screen for long durations.

Last week, while the Tokyo Game Show was on the minds of many, Sony Computer Entertainment and Nintendo released new variations of their portable game systems to the Japanese market. Early reports from retailers indicate that both systems managed big numbers on their first week, with the big victory going to the big N.
The big winner looks like the Game Boy Micro, which managed sales of over 150,000 units in its first week, despite earlier complaints about the high price tag. The Famicom-themed unit (a version of the Micro made to look like a controller for the Japanese version of the NES) sold out in most locations within days of the 9/13 release and ended up grabbing 60% of overall sales. Following this in order of popularity were silver, black, purple and blue.
In news that's sure to please Nintendo's management, sales of the Game Boy Micro did not adversely affect sales of the company's two other portable systems: Game Boy Advance SP and the DS. We should have specific numbers shortly.
Lining up closely with the Micro's strong sales was Nintendo's unstoppable Super Mario Brother's Famicom Mini series (Japanese version of the NES Classics series) edition. The most popular of the Famicom Mini titles was re-released to coincide with the Game Boy Micro's 9/13 release (and also Mario's 20th anniversary) and ended up selling over 150,000 units.
Other big portable Nintendo titles, including Capcom's Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright in America) for the DS and Bandai's Super Robot Taisen J for the Game Boy Advance also performed well. Many older Game Boy Advance titles saw a sales spike with the influx of new owners.
Less is known at this point about sales of the PSP. Sony released a white-colored version of the system to coincide with the 9/15 release of Konami's Winning Eleven 9. While the system did see a sales surge, early reports indicate that it didn't even manage to top DS sales.
We expect specific numbers to come in shortly, so be sure and check back here at IGN.

Gameboy Micro lost its size appeal after iPod Nano came out. Now THAT thing is small.

IGN boards say the DS is more "muddy" looking while the Micro and backlit SPs are more vivid.

Muddy interesting... What's this about the backlit SP being a bit blurry (when movement occurs) or something?
How do you connect headphones to the SP? What a stupid move not to include a headphone jack. Who wants to hear video game music on the plane?

refresh on these lcds suck. Anyone with a PSP (if they're being honest) will tell you that it suffers from that as well. Ya, you can buy a separate adapter for the headphone hookup. It was really cheap of Nintendo to force you to buy one. Their original lame excuse was that it was too small to put one in.

So you tried the new Backlit SP? Is it worth buying? Or should we stick to the darker-older model?

I read about the blurring on the Micro and new GBA SP. Does this happen on the DS also?
This blurring reminds me of the original Gameboy (those old yellow/green screens) .. I couldn't see anything when my character is moving. Speaking of which, the other day i noticed the original Gameboy being released again for $20 US at import sites, along with Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color .. I guess they sold out pretty quickly, because they are now all "out of stock".

Guys, the new GBA is like 10x better. The screen is amazing.
Here's my comparison video.
My poor camera doesn't do the screen justice (http://www.insertcredit.com/news/092005/iridion.avi)
And blurring? I don't see any. Basically it's like the response time of the LCD which I would say is about the same as most desktop LCDs.

These are authentic GBs from the past. It's old stock that comes up every now and then. Nintendo is not re-releasing them.
