What haven't they had yet?
lcds and computers?
They've already covered bags, headphones, pdas, projectors, printers. I can't think what else they'd offer.
I'm thinking a couple lcds and a tv will be the next thing...that or a cheap computer...

iPod or DJ20?
DJ20 uses Lithium Polymer, a far superior battery technology than Lithium Ion, which the iPod uses.

I bought a DJ during the last Dell special. Its a good unit - check out http://www.delldjsite.com/ for lots of info regarding the DJ. I have been happy, and I use it every day on the way to and home from work.
Pros : Nice organization and display. Inline remote available to do FM and voice recording. Dock with line out comes with the 30GB. Small and compact.
Cons : Not an ipod (for some of you.. :-) ), need driver to access it under Windows (unless 'play for sure' firmware is installed and you use Windows Media Player 10 or above. I have been reluctant to do this as I hate the idea of opening up my unit to DRM restrictions. So, I live with the fact I need to load drivers.
I recommend picking up Deubox explorer with the money you save. It is a great 3rd party application for managing your Dell DJ. You can also set your unit up to stream MP3's over your home network to any other PC using this software. Its quite nice.
Oh, and note that you can put any sort of file on your DJ (use it as mass storage). At least you can with the Deubox explorer software - not sure about the other stuff (didn't run it long before I realized I wanted something more functional). BTW, files are stored in a single flat directory on the DJ - all categorization is done my ID3 tag. So make sure they are populated correctly. Again, Deubox makes it easy to correct after the fact if some of them are not.

I believe the dock comes standard with the 30GB DJ only. When you select it, and go to more details it shows the dock as being included.

I also picked one up at the last sale. Good buy, in my opinion. People always say "Oh, it's not an ipod" but what can you do. I actually prefer that this is different. Some people like the way the ipod looks better but I actually think the DJ looks nicer- sleek angles and I like chrome over the ipod colours. So, if you want an ipod, hold out for an ipod. If you don't care about owning an ipod and whatever status comes attached with that, this is a very good buy.
Anyways, to add on to what Shuffle said...
I made the jump to playsforsure. With my mp3 collection, DRM is not a problem ;). I was contemplating the free month with napster but decided against it because of DRM. If you rip all your own music, I wouldn't hestitate with Playsforsure but if you buy music online...well, you better read up on DRM and Playsforsure before upgrading. You can always downgrade too, though.
You can use the DJ as a storage device regardless of which firmware you're using. With playsforsure, you transfer files using anything you want like Windows Explorer which is simple enough. There's a music folder and a data folder. You can organize your mp3s into folders (I do artist/album) which is nice, but on the actual DJ, the mp3s are sorted by ID tag and not folder. You can put anything into the data folder- for transporting files, etc.
So, there's lots of flexibility here, no matter how you like working.
p.s. if you do get it, get the 30 gig. If you're gonna spend $200, just spend the little bit extra and get 10 gigs more which is alot of space. Plus you get the dock which is great. Plus, you won't believe how much space you'll use once you start taking all your friends' music.

If you are transferring many hundreds of data files from your PC to the DJ, organized under many directories and subdirectories, what happens when you attempt to transfer them back? Do they come out into one big directory or do they get reassembled in their respective directories?

Do you know if the DJ has a FM/AM Tuner or do you have to buy an accessory for it?

You need the inline remote that adds the fm tuner functionality. I think it is 70 bucks.

That will really be a function of the software you use, I would guess. With Deubox Explorer, you can do whatever you want with the path setup for exporting MP3's...

Doesn't have it, the accessory for it is $69 from Dell, don't know if it's possible to get cheaper

With Playsforsure, the directory structure is retained. The Dell DJ appears as a device in Windows Explorer so you just drag and drop to and from the DJ just like any other folder or device.
